Not really bothered about them ignoring us
Just like I'm not really bothered that ex Southend United player Ryan Leonard had a storming game for Millwall against Leeds

The football coverage on the BBC website is so full of factual errors and complete nonsense it’s bewildering.

Agreed, though the word "website" in your post is redundant.

I'd do one of those clever "fixed it for you" things with the struck out word if I was techie enough.

Blimey I've not suggested I'm angry or disgusted by it.

Just stuck out like a sore thumb that not only do they not mention him playing with us for a couple of seasons, but also just suggest he retired from playing to become Wales manager.

Like Swiss says, I was over the moon when he signed, even at 38. A player I'd admired for years on and off the pitch.
It is unfair we are ignored as we all loved Speedo..

Totally agree. If he had played one or two matches for us then I could maybe understand us not being mentioned in the article. I think not mentioning us considering he was here for 3 years as a player, coach and manager is pretty disgraceful even by the BBC's standards. One simple glance on Gary's wikipedia page would have told the "journalist" all they needed to know.
Yes it is disrespectful.... Speedo was player coach, then coach , then assistant manager, then manager with us. We all loved the guy so it hurts to be air brushed out of his professional football life..

As I already said earlier, we didn’t always when he played for us. As for his time as manager, it started with optimism but that quickly changed, to the extent plenty weren’t overly fussed about him going at the time (a move that looked worse in retrospect than it did at the time certainly).

Deadbat captured this well in his end of season review that year:

“He said all the right things about his move but you got the feeling he could not wait to get out with a poor squad and the team seemingly on a downward slide. For what it is worth most United fans were not particularly upset to see Speed move on and the fact that the board did not put up much of a fight seemed to suggest it maybe suited all parties. Maybe it was the right man at the wrong time but that remains to be seen whether Speed can go on and be a success in the game. His early promise at United quickly evaporated and soon United had become undisciplined, easy to beat and as predictable as they were under Blackwell with no pace and simply no one who could put the ball in the net as evidenced by their appalling goals for record.”

The BBC attempt to mould the world to their worldview. Anyone expecting any sort of accuracy from them is an idiot.
