Jose did a great job of filling in when Clough first took over and he's one of the reasons we did so well in the second half of that season. He's also chipped in with goals and assists whilst he's been here. And fair play, he actually is beginning to look like a footballer in terms of physique.

We've tried him in several positions and he's not managed to consistently be successful in any. I'm sure he'd do a job in a team which allows him freedom as part of a midfield five, but like Scougal I just don't ever see him fitting into a formation or style we're going to play at League 1 (or arguably in the league above). Arsenal are one of the few teams who play in a way which could accommodate his style.

Several managers have tried to build round him but they've all failed. I think it's time to cash in. For the goals and assists he's provided for us he's cost us more overall due to the limitations in his game and attitude. I can't see him ever being successful at the club. Time to move on.

Agree. I think I posted in the JTW last year we should cash in while he still had some value.

So after one dodgy result where he only played a half you've decided to write him off. Let's just ignore his strong preseason where he looked energetic and was running the midfield eh.

I've said it before over the years and several others have as well, but managers keep persisting with him. I know getting his skill and talent at this level is problematic, but we need to look elsewhere.

So after a pre-season where he's looked good playing against opponents who gave him time and were more interested in not getting injured, you're happy to ignore a career at the club where he's consistently flattered to deceive?

Ye we've played him in all sorts of positions, which is already a massive drawback for the lad. How can anyone get consistency when, as you rightly point out, he gets messed about in formations and positions.

Most ridiculously he has hardy ever played in his ACTUAL position! He is Perfect for the role of number 10 in a 4-2-3-1 formation, that's clear to most, but has that ever happened once? It might just happen to be a coincidence that I also think this formation suits our players best too, as I have been banging on about my hatred for 4-4-2.

Baxter seems to constantly be a scape goat, but until he gets a run in a settled side in his best position there's no way we can judge him. He's our most creative player, and most talented too IMO, and based on the last few transfer windows, our attempts to replace would result in us having a worse player in his place im sure!

We have much bigger problems which need addressing that Baxter, that's a certainty.

Have to say I agree, and I thought this way before the season began.

Not that he's a bad player at all, his vision and passing are superb at times, I just can't see where he's going to nail down a first team spot. He's not what you want in a midfield 4, he's not a striker, and Adkins prefers 2 up front so he's not going to see that attacking mid opportunity appear very often (unless we play a diamond, which I can't see happening). He won't be short of admirers and I think we'd get a fair price for him.

No point in trying to accommodate players for the sake of it. No more square pegs/round holes, please.

Spot on! Some of our fans wouldn't know a player if they slapped them across the face. They'd much prefer a midfield full of Montys.

Until they get a midfield full of Montys, then they'll complain about a lack of creativity.
I tend to agree with Blader though, he's a number 10. Either play him there or don't play him. I'm sick to fucking death of players 'filling in'.
