Always thought that the delay in signing the contract was about length of contract rather than weekly wage (it could be both granted). But maybe he's thought long and hard about it, realised that he really does enjoy being a Blades player and backs himself to win another contract next summer. Let's hope he does that too.

I remember one of his early games v Rochdale in League One and he just looked awful, and I remember shouting from the Kop "GET HIM OFF"! He was substituted not long after too! How he's proved me wrong from that day, one of the best signings we ever had in my time as a Blade

I had a very similar moment away at Crewe, we lost 1-0 and were truly pathetic. He was playing on the right on the side closest to the away stand, so very close to us. That seemed to magnify every error and I remember wondering how he’d ever got a professional contract.

Now I think he’d probably make my all time Favourite SUFC XI.

I suppose this just shows how quick we all are (except me of course) to miss judge a player, he didn't look good enough to play for us in the the third tier, I wonder the next time a new signing looks dodgey will we think twice, nobody rated him and yet here we are finishing 9th in the Premier league and him winning two player of the season awards and getting into one of the national papers team of the season, quite unbelievable, glad I was the only one who predicted he would become a legend

I went for Jack O'Connell.
I've always thought our fans are slightly less warm to him than others (Bash, Egan, Fleck etc..) & I've never really understood why. It's rare we give him man of the match or gush with praise for him. He's always identified by players (along with Fleck) as being our best professional & trainer.

John Egan seems to rank higher in the minds of our fans (see POTY voting) but I remember a lot of occasions where he got done by the high ball over the top.
I remember him having games in which he really struggled & I just don't remember Jack O'Connell having those sorts of games, or making those sorts of errors.

When Jack was out of the side we went to pieces.

Most agree he's our most valuable asset, but he rarely gets the accolades.

Delighted for Bash & I'm sure he'll use all of this outside recognition in his salary negotiations. He doesn't warrant the same money as Egan, or O'Connell given his market value but he is integral to how we play & as such deserves rewarding.

Agree with you on Egan, but not JOC’s popularity- he’s always been a favourite and has even got a song. The difference for me is that Bash can occasionally drive us on and make stuff happen when we’re playing badly. He can and has taken a game and changed it almost alone, which is mad for a defender; brilliantly effective as JOC has been, he’s never done that.

God dammit, if I'd have known he'd be here this long I would have got BASHAM 6 printed on everyone of my Adidas United kits!!

He got my vote. But I didn't choose him purely on this season alone, it feels like a cumulative effort, how he has improved season by season and he's been here so long now (by today's standards) that it is also sentimental.

Maybe when he retires or if he leaves us I think maybe Sheffield United should retire the number 6 shirt, he really owned it (No offence Jagielka).

I’d speculate that he wanted three years but club policy won’t allow it at his age. So when safety was secured, the extra cash and appeal of guaranteed premier league football made two years look tasty enough.

That said, how old was Leon when we gave him three? I’m probably talking rubbish....

We may have broke policy on Leon due to the interest from higher up. His stock was very high when he signed that contract.

His subsequent decline in form will have solidified a return to our previous policy.
