Young Aston Villa midfielder - Speed chasing as loan from Villa - according to the Mirror....

If true Speed doesn't rate Quinn, Monty, Ertl ? Prehaps he is the righ man for the job!

Who? You can't mean this bloke?

He played for derby at the lane in the play off final season. He didn't look a bad player and had plenty of pace. My derby supporting flat mate at the time raved about him. Playing just off the striker(s) would be a better option than squinny.

I can see wholesale changes to the squad coming shortly.

It's like having a young Wenger in charge.

Changed the football almost over-night but had to get rid of the mentality of the Club. eg. Cheating Cockney Buggers, etc. The Football wasn't that pretty and they were pretty much a dirty side when at there best. So set about changing the main problems. ie. Slowly got rid of the old guard and replaced them with .... Better? And got rid of Wright and brought in Henry, etc...

Wasn't Bannan promoted at Blackpool last season too? Might be wrong.

EDIT: Yes, played 20 times from late November onwards.

Yeah Blackpool wanted him back too I believe.

Listed at 5'7" just the right height for our midfield you wouldn't want a tall midfielder in it would give the others a complex!

A few posters putting the damper on things.

Bannan wont be arriving for several reasons:

He wants to see what the new manager at Villa has to say first regards his plans.
He's said he wont drop down to the championship again.
He's on a high salary which is a problem for us.

:(

The 1st two seem reasonable but on the wages front, unless he had a rise in the Summer, if Blackpool could afford him last season it's hard to believe we can't now, even with our 're-profiling'.

Get him in give Speed his first real signing and give the fans a boost before heading to that rent-a-ground on saturday.
Or we holding off and waiting for that investment to come in.

I still think we're a week away from any signings for the 93 day rule, has to be after 27th to get the xmas games in. Sign in time for Forest :)

Unless it's a 'youth loan'. 20 and under can still go on a season loan.

There's no place like home......there's no place like home.....;)

Also from the Mirror article during the reserve game in which he scored his three goals he was watched by eight championship clubs. So lots of competition there for us.

We've looked at him but no more.

Played in League Cup Last Night

He played for Villa in the League Cup against Balckburn last night.
Since they beat Blackburn I guess that means Houllier will want to use the same squad in the last 16.

Cannot see this happening but we are crying out for an attacking midfield presence.

Cotterill keeps on making goal assists has anyone noticed?
Did it again last night in the LC as well as at the weekend.
Whatever people say about his tracking back he certainly makes a difference if you need to unlock a tight defence. Stupid sale that one.

Swansea got a couple of bargains there. Scott Sincalir for £500k is a snip. Just over £1 million for the pair - that's good business.

Not using Cotterills potential to the full was Blackwell's worst managerial crime IMO

not utlising most players in thier proper positions was and still appears to be a blades blind spot, strikers as wingers, full backs as center backs, midfielders as corner flags the list is endless, we had the players to have a quite creative midfield cotts etc never alowed creative freedom they needed, playing strikers as wingers is to me such a waste, maybe im old school but i thought play wingers as wingers and strikers as....you guessed it strikers.
is that so hard for blackie/speed to understand?

But you are talking 4-4-2 with wingers playing as wingers. Thankfully Speed seems to be moving away from that, and wingers that just stay out wide and "get chalk on their boots".

We have obvious holes in the side if we are to play a passing game, and this will addressing in January or via the loan market.

Apart from the fact we have 1 recognised winger (yeates) at the club, and he is playing 433 with wing forwards. I think speed fully understand this and is probably looking to get someone for the left side in. i bleeted on and on about this in pre season and everyone said i was wasting my time as our formation wouldnt suite the need for pacey wingers and cresswell being on the left was good because he tracks back and covers well.

now we actually start playing some football, people have finally realised the need for this. i hope we do sign this bannan lad, he looks a decent player from what ive read on forums and such and maybe the other top sides going out may mean houllier will let him loose as that could be a realistic trophy for them this season. ashley young looked a class above last night.

A pig who reckons himself to be in the know is suggesting that we were desperately trying to sign the central midfielder on a season long loan from Palace with his parent club paying a percentage of his wages before they signed him on a permanent this evening?

Personally I don't know what to think but i'm inclined that it's a load of nonsense and them lot stirring again after they signed Turner.

As far as I'm aware he's never been a regular, anywhere. Despite talk of the grunters spending big, most of their signings don't seem to be wanted by their parent clubs.

Not a player I rate to be honest.

If you're the type of player he is you need to be immense at it. He's also the type of player that only fits in certain playing styles.

He's either been very unlucky at the clubs he's been at (think Leon Britton with us), or he's simply not that good. I think it's the latter.

I think we have better options here now. As others have said, despite all the talk of promise it has never materialised.
