Ball Retention

The ball retention, which we can give attribute mostly to Coutts, Fleck and Duffy has also dispelled the myth that we need a Basham type physical presence in the middle. I was guilty of thinking that without Basham in the middle Coutts and Fleck might suffer, but they have flourished.

Having good footballers at the back such as Freeman, Lafferty, Ebanks-Landell, Wright and O'Connell also helps.
It's an old adage but the opposition can't score when they don't have the ball.

I too worried about not having an enforcer but the facts are there for all to see. We are dominating possession because we have players in there who know how to retain it. The fact we give it away less means we have less need of someone to win it back as their primary purpose.

Plus Fleck and Coutts have shown themselves to be more robust than expected. Those two coming together has the feeling of when Tonge was moved to the left under Warnock or when Hodges was added under Bassett. Something has just clicked.

Just need something similar to happen up front then we will be well away.

It can't have escaped the notice of clubs higher up the pecking order that our manager is first class, do you think Chris Wilder is beyond being tempted by big bucks ?

Give it a rest Pinchy -we get it, you're the only one who really understands football!
Not sure you actually get any enjoyment out of it, but that's not my problem

He does seem to over intellectualise a bit. I don't think I'm brainy enough to follow the Blades

Great debate this!!All 3 managers had and have there vision of playing the game and all 3 have had some great success.

It's horses for courses. Bassett was exactly what we needed at the time. I don't think anybody has said 'Bring Warnock back' (certainly not this season) but, if you're in the shit, there's nobody better to fight your way out of it. Who do you think Rotherham fans would rather have in charge now? Jackett or Warnock?

YOU BOY AT THE BACK OF THE CLASS, PAY ATTENTION!

You've been told many times and it is very simple,

No 'alehouse football'
No hoofing
Play it 'the right way'
Under no circumstances, ever try to 'bring em back'
Don't join the S2 straw men who even now, are protesting in the car park to get Basset back
Don't ever credit any of Tufty's attitude to Basset (who he played under)
Swot up on dinosaur breeds in order to prefix all 'hoofers' with some lumbering beast (e.g. 'Diplodiicus Dave'or 'Willinakaqe Warnock')

Now put the pointy hat on and go and stand in the corner!

Yes. Premier league clubs tend not to go for L1 managers, however successful and championship clubs tend to sack managers after a season or so. I can't see him being tempted by that when he can stay at the Lane and get us into the championship anyway.
