Both sadly seem quite prone to injuries. It's a real shame, especially with Baldock who looks like one heck of an athlete when fit.

We need to bring someone in come January. Hopefully manage to limp through until then with Basham providing the cover.

I don’t think Baldock is able to play this often at the intensity we play. He will, but I think him missing the majority of pre season is the cause of the issues now. He’s had to come in due to Fremans injuries, when ideally they could have done him almost a pre season instead.

He will get to that level I’m sure.

I've been thinking about Lafferty recently. I reckon his best position in our current system is in JOC's place. I don't think he has enough going forward to be the LWB but is solid defensively, and the way JOC plays is like a solid left back that marauds forward and overlaps. If JOC ever got injured i'd like to see Laff in his place as I think Lafferty overlapping Stevens and vice versa would be great. Just a shame from his Lafferty's point of view that JOC is the best centre half we've ever had.

I don't see Lafferty playing right back, not in a million years. Wilder almost insists on right footed players on the right, left on the left even down to the centre halves and centre mids. We'll see Basham there probably.

I wouldn't mind us loaning either Kyle Walker Peters for a few months or that little right back from Everton, Jonjoe Kenny. Having said that, by the time the loan window reopens, Freeman may be back.

I'm not sure which is the stranger suggestion, JOC being the best centre back ever or us signing Everton's current first choice right back.

Basham on the right with Wright or Stearman at centre back is far more likely than Lafferty on the wrong side.

He'll play Basham at right wing back and bring Stearman back in to add some experience to the backline.

I was obviously exhaggerating

and the seasons before? I'm pretty sure he was injured in both loan spells and picked up several injuries when still with us.

Freeman isn’t prone to injuries at all. He’s had 2 really unlucky ones this season, but not niggles or long running injuries.

He was fine last season playing 46 games in total.

Basham is perfectly fine at RWB on occasions but then we're weaker at the back. I would also use him as Fleck replacement.

if Baldock is out for the weekend game against Hull, then CCV would be an excellent choice to pound up and down the flank as a RWB, with either Basham and or Stearman in the back three with JOC.

CCV is better in Bash’s normal position (right of the 3) than sweeper so I don’t think Bash is too badly missed if he moves to RWB. If Baldock isn’t fit for Saturday I’d go-

---------------------Moore

-------CCV--------Wright*----JOC

Basham----Coutts--------Fleck-------Stevens

-----------------------Duffy

-----------------Sharp-----Clarke

  • No more than a fag paper between Wright and Stearman for me. Wright has been in possession of the shirt most recently and didn’t deserve to lose it so I’d just about give him the nod but think Wilder will go with Stearman and I don’t have a problem with that.

This thread has had some shockers.

Lafferty at centre half?!

Baldock looking ordinary?!

I reckon JOC is as good as anyone we've ever had back there.

And yeah, Lafferty has played centre half for us a handful of times.

So, you don't think having 4 players who can all play in that position is enough then? Freeman, Baldock, Basham, Cameron Carter-Vickers, How much cover would you like exactly for each position? more than 4 obviously. You'll probably detect from my general tone, that I don't agree with you.

Have we had, Lafferty on the right wing, with his kit on back to front, running backwards, yet?

I've told you a million times, don't exaggerate...

In your defence, if he keeps this level of play up for another couple of years, you'll have a very good point.

However, I fear he's one of the players who will have vultures circling should we not make it up.
