Baffling squad assembling

That's not my job.

Worryingly I wouldn't trust those at the club to identify anyone either.

However, that's not to say I agree with the 'there's noone better than Wilder in our position' that some continue to adopt.

I want my team to be coached, well organised, drilled, with a clear pattern of play and system. When your own manager says 'we have no clear identity' then that is a huge concern after having a whole pre season and indeed much of end of last season to plan for this.
Exactly this. I have no faith in these owners at all, even less so after the podcast. When Wilder goes I can see them appointing some MLS coach.

It’s down to the owners.
The current lot, PA and even back to McCabe.

When Wilder first came in it was like a gift because he took everything on and it worked up to the covid season.

With the returns it hasn’t worked so well yet our owners were still happy to employ Wilder and be ‘hands off’… ‘let Wilder do it’.

End of the day the question is ‘who is the boss?’

The answer is Wilder.
The tail has been wagging the dog in a dysfunctional, cast in the past club that has been on the drop off since 2021.

If his tentacles are all over it, then it's Wilders to own and be held accountable for, even though his repeated avoidance of the crowd after defeats appears to show he doesn't actually fancy it when its gone belly up.

That was okay in L1 when he was dragging the club out of the doldrums on little funding. However, due to the successes he brought the club and the financial benefits that ensued the club itself grew. But, the set up remained virtually the same with no expertise of higher levels whatsoever. That should have been the starting point of looking for a DoF but Wilders stock was understandably so high, he, with Sneks backing was able to put a stop to this.

We’ve turned back into a L1 club again, in thought and outlook at least.

Every time we’ve gone down this experienced old players route the result has been relegation. This time, we really really can’t afford it.

Money that could have been spent modernising the clubs thinking has been spunked on the likes of Rothwell, Shackleton, Cannon, Campbell etc. The amounts are very different but if you take into account the PL monies that were available, l’d suggest these are at least a big a waste of money as McBurnie and Brewster ever were.

Managers will come and go with results.
That’s always been the case.

Up to a point that has always been the case under Wilder.

Difference being when you’re doing well it’s ‘charming’ and ‘a nice story’ for msm, when you’re not doing well it’s just looks a bit amateur.

The fan base is hugely to blame for that
Not sure, I think fans would be fine if they saw a genuinely better alternative would come in and the board would appoint them (I say them as it could be male or female for me but there is another can of worms). Just don’t honk fans think it would happen so we stick with someone we know is a decent manager (which Wilder is). It’s catch 22 really.

If the owners haven’t got the balls to deal with him - that’s their fault. If they have, and don’t deal with home - that’s on them too in my view.

Absolutely spot on you missed the long ball we keep hitting nothing wrong with it but you need players like Deane and Agana to pressure opposition defences with strength and pace to make it work.
Good spot by you.
I left out 3 pieces as it was turning in to an essay. The long ball in particular near the end to Cannon and after the players with any pace had been taken off.

And a few frantic moments tikka takka in the in the middle of the park that broke down because those doing it Peck, Philips etc can't pass the ball quickly without giving it away.

Don't get me started on set plays!!!!!

The problem is, with every passing week, it’s getting hard and harder to back up your comment in parentheses. And it’s not a recent trajectory either, it’s been happening for at least 2 years.

there is nothing more important in modern football than recruitment & scouting. its the reason why Bournemouth, Brentford & brighton have had such prolonged success. & why man utd have struggled for so long

i wonder if parts of our issues with wilders signings. is if he doesnt trust the recruitment & why would you. in the last 18 months weve signed 26 players. id say 3 were a success..so he's just gone back to what he knows. not great for us

Defensively, it's a mess. The only option that covers up a midfield group who lack any athletes appears to be to defend the box with lots of players, encourage the opposition to throw crosses in. There's zero chance Wilder will do that in a home match so I think we might see better results away from home. I think we might take a PL style tonking at home at some point.

But for that more cautious approach to have any chance of working, there needs to be a real threat on the counter. That means BBD/Chong on one side, Donavan the other with a CF between them. 451/433 and CMs allowed to attempt forward passes that will have a relatively low success rate

Who's in charge of that?

If Wilder, why is no one with a football brain at the club saying 'you know what Chris maybe we don't want 6 of the same midfielder', or 'Chris you know it might actually be worth not signing that player who's not completed a full 90 for 3 seasons', or 'Chris I think we might need a bit of creativity in this team?', or 'Chris I think we might need to sign a right back at right back rather than a shit central midfielder who can barely masquerade as one there', or my personal favourite 'Chris do you think we should try and sign some players with pace and athleticism?'

If we here isn't anyone advising him, it's about time there was. Not just Bettis, Hoyland and their jobs for the boys club.
If there IS someone advising him and this is the squad we've got to show for it, they need sacking immediately.

Wouldn't mind if literally every fan bar the Wilder blind spot club saw it coming a mile off.

We have one maverick at the club and if he gets marked out of games like yesterday that's the type of performance we are going to put in.
Wilder will NOT listen
Will NOT accept criticism
NEVER sees fault in what he does, always blaming others as yesterday
And may well have his BBC baseball bat handy
as well as a load of scum mates and supporters
I wouldn't risk it would you?
FFS Warnock was threatened whilst on the club premises as I understand it. (NOT by Wilder)

I just take comfort from the fact that out there somewhere, there's another timeline where Pochettino is in his 11th season as manager and has won us two premier league titles, the FA Cup and the Champion's League. In that particular universe, I'm a bit blasé about it all, and I'm not particularly pleased that Bramall Lane is full of 52,000 prawn sandwich aficionados every other week. It's all a bit, y'know, too much. There's no pleasing some people I guess, in any universe.

Brentford are the model to study, particulary as we have connections with Keith Andrews and Jack Lester. That helped in securing Donovan. Andrews has also brought Damian Duff on to the coaching staff, who is has no hesitation or fear of calling it as he sees it.

Thomas Frank goes and the show goes on regardless. Sell a player, his replacement is already in the club. We sell Slimane and we buy Cannon. We then play Norwich and Slimane is playing the type of ball that we don't play but is what Cannon is geared to.

What is the context of the Warnock incident.?Just the general theme.

I take your point, what we don't is what goes on behind the scenes between manager/coaches/recruitment/owners
I think Wilder is dealing with a lot of stuff that we don't know about and trying to make a fist of it

Brentford are brilliant. everyone has them for relegation battle. they sell their best players most years. Mbumebo, wissa, raya, norgarrd, toney, eriksen. & they keep getting better

That was always Charles Cleggs plan for us. To be one of the greatest clubs in the world, forever. Queen Victoria and Lord Salisbury had agreed and it was to go through parliament with no objections.

Sadly after a drunken raucous night involving strippers at the Adelphi Hotel, the Football Gods heard Sir Charles refer to them as a bunch of cunts.
The rest is history…….

Why do certain people always come up with this argument whenever someone suggests that someone isn't right for a given job?
Because it's a very valid point. No it's not the supporter suggesting a change of manager that's in charge of finding a replacement, but they don't have a clue who to go to. Our owners won't either. They haven't a clue. Change manager and we go down. We're in a bad place, totally over reliant on Wilder but he is our only chance.

I know, I was there egging him on.

Hiring Selles will set us back years, because it’s made the owners (and a section of the fanbase) believe only Wilder can manage us. Wilder also plays into it despite still having a top half budget and having assembled 90% of this squad, yet still they bang on about last summer’s recruitment. I also don’t believe for a minute McGuiness / Chong etc were Selles’ signings, they were Wilder’s mates.

Giving him a new contract before the season was a baffling decision. Nobody is trying to poach this version of Wilder from us. Wilder knows it too, that’s why he’s putting up with our 3 best attacking players being sold - he knows he doesn’t get a top Championship job again.

Mousinho
Wellens
McCann
Johnny Jackson
Cowley
Woodman (Bromley)
Leam Richardson

If it was next summer, I'd try to get Mousinho, if not, Wellens
mousinho & wellens yes. not sure on mccann or leam richardson, cowley i think was never the same post covid,

id go dave challinor

It depends on the sort of manager the club wants. McCann for example has a load of experience and is still younger than Wilder was in 2016

i may have been swayed by doncaster fans, who are in same boat as us, as thinking a manager has taken as far as he can
