The Football League voted this through at a meeting in Leicester

Will Danny name a keeper on the bench ?

why not have it like friendlies 11 or 12 subs and have it so the manager can change all 11 :)

Some might suggest that he cannot name a keeper for the first XI

Makes sense to me 5 subs - most cllubs dont have the squads to have that many on the bench.

Why does it make sense? If you don't have enough first teamers, put kids there or just don't fill the bench. Seven subs is far better in my opinion, it allows you to cover more angles. Five players doesn't always allow you to cover every position on the pitch, unless you have a "utility" player and not having a GK is risky (unless you have Jags at centre half).

Bad for youth development. It should have been 5 but you can have an additional 2 under21's.

Agree with you. Why have they changed it?

Now this is a fantastic idea for youth development, tho it doesnt mean teams will utilise the youths it does allow young, upcoming players tosample and experience full match days.

Why can'tthey sit in the stands with us to experience match days?

not quite the same fiery, which would you prefer even as a fan sat in the stands or sat in the dug out/sidelines?
injured players sit in the stands and ask any of them if they prefer stands or dug out.

Absolutely, and if you are 3-0 up with 10 mins left, you have the option of blooding a youngster or 2 for the rest of the game...

It was fine when it was just 3. Bigger benches only benefit bigger teams.

I agree with it benefiting financially bigger teams, but it is a backwards step for team’s smaller teams that should rely more on Youth Development, it's already hard enough for youth players to break into first teams.

totally agree ,when I started there were no subs at all
so it was 11v 11
1 was only introduced to cover the keeper getting crocked

big clubs now have 7 equally good players on the bench , making it 11 v 18

only 3 can get on so the helping youth argument is a non starter , might as well sit in the stand

If the kids are good enough, then they'll get their game time.

Young players need time on the pitch to develop. We were so comfortable vs Colchester that it would have been an ideal match to throw on some of the youngsters, but there was no room for the likes of McAllister, Harriott, Tønne or Philliskirk on the bench.

As has been mentioned the reserves league is a joke with very few matches played, and we may have to consider loaning some of these youngsters out now.

Didn't Philliskirk only sign for this year? If we aren't playing him by Xmas then he's going to be looking to move on elsewhere. Personally I think McAllister and Harriott might benefit from loan moves until the end of the season, but I'd be looking to Tonne and Philliskirk to be making one of the sub spots their own. I know Cressy has been scoring so far this season, but I'm still not too trusting in his running and mobility. Probably doesn't help that neither NML or Flynn seem capable of 90mins so that would free up a subs place.
