Ayew or Marsh?

Marsh and One should both be given minutes in the first team this season with a view to being our main front two from next season.
We have Fodder if he's still here next season, not that its much help.

Firstly the lad clearly has talent, but hasn’t been able to kick on to even get close to our first team. Injuries have played a role in that, but also question marks of how lightweight he is.

Potential for the future clearly doesn’t equate to ability to contribute now.

For those saying we should be giving him minutes, you've got to ask yourself, if Marsh played for another team and had the same career to date… would you be happy if we signed him to be part of our first team squad? Naturally our academy lads get the rose tinted spec treatment, but football can’t have sentiment.

With Marsh, his potential will be reason he’s still at the club when a lot of his cohort have been released - with this in mind the question you’ve got to answer is where best for him to develop or maximise value? Playing a bit part role, warming bench at us or playing regular first team football.

There’s probably a world where he’s contributing all year at Chessie, remains crucially injury free and can come back to a role in the squad. This may never materialise and may never get there, but fingers remain crossed.

I’d prefer Marsh over Ayew but I’m not convinced by him. It’s always funny how some players seem to become world beaters for no other reason than the players in front of them being rubbish.
Technically he’s good but he’s 22 now and not really played that much football. I can see him spending most of his career in League One & Two. You never know though, Seriki couldn’t get a game for Rotherham or Rochdale and he’s come on loads in the last couple of seasons. Although knowing Wilder he’ll probably stick with Choudhry even when Seriki’s fit

I agree but I was talking about people’s perception of players. Let’s face it we could have world beaters up front and we wouldn’t get the ball to them anyway with our 30% possession

We could say similar to Peck who was forced to play the games which in turn toughened him up and brought him on as a player.

All joking apart, if the worst does happen this season, then One and Marsh will be very good young players to already have in the squad to build back from.

That said, we'll no doubt sell the former after he's played second fiddle to a tired unfit player well past his sell by date.

Before people jump in - my Chessie going mate says he was their best player last season... If we'd bought a young tyro of a RB in front League Two, we'd be chomping at the bit to see him given a chance.

But no - we'd rather pay £10k+ a week on wages to freeloaders who won't be here next season and so far have offered the square root of fuck all.

The energy created with Curtis and Seriki jostling for the RB spot and McCallum and Burrows for the LB is exactly the 'culture' we're looking to foster. Instead we've got a bunch of 30+ has-beens not arsed about playing as they're adding £500k+ to their pension pot this year...

Ayew is past it and seems to dine out on a wondergoal for Palace years ago, alongside his old man being a decent player.

If Marsh was any good, he'd have had a run by now and at least come off the bench a handful of times. The fact that he hasn't and is 22 having played barely any mens football doesn't give me much hope that he can suddenly step into a Championship team and make a difference.

Compare him to Donovan who's probably been our most impactful player so far this season, despite the fact that our learned manager has since decided to stop using him after tearing Bolton to pieces.

I do think the physical aspect is why he isn't part of the first team squad this season. As others say injuries have not helped either.

He does need a proper season of lower EFL football uninterrupted.

As for Ayew I think that money could have just spent on a different free agent such as a winger.

Just another goal for Marsh yesterday in a loan spell that's doing his confidence the world of good, while we're paying an OAP 20 odd k a week to come off the bench, not be a goal threat and tire after 3 minutes.

Marsh is, by a distance, the most technically gifted attacker we've brought through the youth setup bar the obvious superstar at Man City. Bags of energy, bags of talent and despite being slight he finds pockets of space allover the pitch.

Ayew is 35, coming off the back of 2 relegations, has never scored double figures in his career, and put into an unfit, slow and lethargic team with no energy is the complete antithesis of what we need in the team right now.

Wilder's talk of 'needing experience' as a reason for signing Ayew just makes absolutely no sense to me and is a huge reason why I think he's done for. All he's signed is experienced past it has beens or never beens, the young players we have ARE experienced. The only one that isn't is on loan from Brentford and happens to be our best player

He doesn't like bringing youth through, he doesn't trust them. But if Marsh leaves the club without having a proper run in the team or chance to prove himself it would be the biggest damning indictment on both the manager and coaching staff yet. He has everything you'd want from a deep lying forward/number 10 at this level. He's basically a young Bamford, and it's crazy that we haven't just had him as his understudy for the season...

Probably more after bonuses. We pay heavy appearance fees (probably don’t have to worry about goal bonuses).

He was reportedly on £30k a week at Leicester, so even £20k might be conservative.

We've not really seen enough of either playing at this level to compare .

I hope Marsh gains some experience and hope Ayew can use his but honestly think either struggle in our current playing style .

This loan for Marsh might get him back in the fold eventually. Possibly even by January. All depends on how he gets on.

But let's not get carried away thinking he's the next Messi right now.
He's had some opportunities in the first team pre season and league cup. And he didn't stand out. That's not to say he can't kick on and come back in.

The worst thing in a way might have been for him to stay and not get many minutes. Better for him to get more experience.

For instance Oné has gone and loan and come back and may be better for it. Similar happened with Osula, Arblaster, Jebbison.

I've seen him at Chesterfield a few times already. He has the makings of a Number 10 - and he scores goals - or someone who could play off a big CF in a two.
Don't let him go and FFS get him back asap.
He's on a season long loan as I understand it, but we can recall him in Jan.?
