How have we managed with these surfaces off the Desso? It's the question you pitch-clappers fail ... every single time ... to answer. Explain our away form and the (apparent destructive effect opposition pitches has had on our injury list. See? Empty. No explanation. You can't, because there is none.
What? Like Southend? They beat us at the Lane, did they not? They must have found it a nightmare. United certainly did.
I don't know. Do you? Will that be put into 'the club' or 'the football club'? Will it result in two or three first team signings this season coming to strengthen our hopes to remain in the Championship and punch our weight? I mean, we were talking circuses at one stage weren't we? Are you suggesting SUFC will see anything from the gate revenue? I'm asking you, because obviously you have the figures right there.
I don't know, but you obviously do. Was it completely relaid every season? You have proof of that?
Imagine if we would have hung onto Murphy (our previous season's top scorer) and not signed Woolford (Murphy's luminary replacement with one goal out of 20-odd appearances)
This is the 'real world' in League One for six seasons, readers. You sound like McCabe actually planned a shit season under Adkins and it was all in his gift to get Wilder in at the second helping and the rest was serendipity. Like I say, you are conveniently missing out a whole shitload of detail from the last 120 months.
You see, I struggle to remember if and when I have said 'McCabe Out' with any greta conviction, so forgive me, but you are indeed wrong. As much as you like to defend the indefensible, he has been pretty fucking woeful and presided over a particularly disastrous period for this club, stemming right back to when we suddenly lost our striker in the PL and had no real plan B in place. All after that was downhill and up to around October, its been much of the same. But you don't remember that. That's okay, but please don't expect everyone to have the same convenient lack of perspective because you're feeling all happy we've finally made it. It is in spite of McCabe and the Desso, not because of it. I support this team and am disappointed we have underachieved for some ten years but for you, the definition of support is to clap a pitch, even if we lose on it (like we did last year on too many occasions. If I am wrong and you are right about that, good luck to you. For your information ... so you understand ... I don't want McCabe out.
pommpey
This is actually becoming funny, especially as the opening post was a point about the groundsmen being rewarded for their good work.
Anyway....here goes again. I will dumb it down a bit.
Let's say, that Oldhams was the worst surface. I recall a couple of other times the surface was described as poor but Oldhams was terrible. So maybe 4 poor surfaces over the season. That's less than 10% of games where risk of injury increases. Now imagine if our home pitch was like Oldhams from November onwards (which it was if you had noticed)....be roughly 15 games. So total is now around 19 games on shit surfaces....about 40% without working it out.
So over a season, that could make a difference.
We have had a few injuries....how many were at home? How many away from home? I also recall wilder altering his line up for he Oldham game in response to the poor surface.
Now can we have any change to your empty explanation that diverting that money to players would have been better. I mean Murphy might have gone over in his ankle and been done for the season....pointless paying for him then.
Exactly, our nice pitch was a joy for them that day. But clearly a good pitch makes no difference according to you.
And yes, I do know that the club will benefit financially from the Brook fight. And guess what....it might not be the last time we get a similar gig if the club does the good job I expect it will.
And yes...the pitch was relaid every year. Top taken off, relaid with new turf. Roughly £100k...well that's what it costs Scunny so I'm assuming the costs will be similar. What proof would you like? A picture...receipt...a letter from my mate the groundsman?.or can you for once perhaps accept someone might just actually know.
I remember very well the errors of McCabe....like I do Brearley, Woolhouse, McDonald.....and you know what? We've had a lot fucking worse! I certainly didn't know Km was directly responsible for the teams performances in the premier league and failure to get a striker in after Hulse injury. Perhaps he should have saved the managers salary.
What I do know is that Colin was given money to strengthen...and he fucked it up. I also know that KM left the club to be run by a charlatan who conned him into thinking he knew what he was doing. I was a pissed as anyone for the last 10 years, and the incompetence of managers tasked to do a job.
But as folk like you hammered the club for the academy, then the hotel it's now the pitch. What are your views on costs associated with the changes to corporate facilities? Should that be ploughed back into the team.
And finally....it's ironic you say success is in spite of McCabe and the surface not because of him.....whereas the failures were ALL down to McCabe. And I might add perhaps too the surface. It's speculation...like pretty much all of your argument.
