Maybe our success away from home was due to adapting styles of play to suit the surface? It certainly helps our lads pass the ball quicker when the ball does exactly what you expect it to.
Of course I'm sure pommpey is just a misunderstood individual who actually has no actual first hand experience of playing football on such good surfaces, so really hasn't a clue how it can help players with their confidence for one.
It was certainly the first thing my son commented on when he had played at Elland Road, and other pro training grounds and stadia.....he might only be 16 but he was quite clear how he could trust the surface and be a bit more risky with his first touch. But then again....what does he know?

And regards last season it's funny that someone might wonder why we didn't play a quick passing style of football with footballing heros like Dean (cows arse with a banjo) Hammond in the middle of the park, Neill (kick it anywhere) Collins at centre half, and Connor (simply dreadful) Sammon up front!
Ably assisted by Martyn Woolford and a whole host of pretty poor footballers who's names I have erased from my memory!

Anyway....we shouldn't be sidetracked away from what is a well deserved award, and up there as one of the most important achievements of the season. Keeping the grass nice! :p

Best away record in the league, 50 goals scored in 22 games on non Desso pitches you all better pray for a 12-0 win on Sunday otherwise pommpey and one or two more will be laughing their bollocks of at you all. May as well just admit it now it is down to a manager who knows what he is doing and a good team not just the pitch at the lane.

You think anyone is going to be bothered about someone who will never see our pitch ?

The Desso was a sound investment on our clubs part, our pitch previously to the Desso being laid caused many problems, problems we don't encounter no more

That's very true. No need to rip it up again and relay it at great expense and hard work. Meaning that the ground is available to host the boxing.

Didn't we have to have a completely new pitch laid every summer, and sometimes relaid at least once in the season because of the poor state of the pitch, problems we don't have no more,so now we just have to pay for the maintenance of the Desso, which I would guess is cheaper than what we had to do previously

I believe so.
Problems caused by drainage and some bastard beetle that destroyed the roots meant we were just having to repeat the same process over and over.
I seem to recall that in lower maintenance costs alone we would have recovered the outlay for having the pitch done in 10 years.

Never mind, we could have just kept the old pitch, given the cash to whichever useless manager we had at the time to waste on some talentless twat to run around on a sandy pit through November to April instead!!
Thank god we don't have such visionaries like Pommpey running the club.

But piss taking aside...take Fleck for example. He was a free player to go where he wanted. He strikes me as a football man before anything money related. He apparently had options which included Championship sides, but opted for us. I wonder if the facilities on offer for training and playing had as much bearing as the money on offer?

All this 'it wuz teh Desso wot dun it' shite is tiresome and shot full of holes. This award ... everyone high fiving over it.

We happened to kick the fucking division over this season, on and surprisingly off the fucking Desso.

We managed to fuck last season up, on and unsurprisingly off the Desso. Why did we not win it last season, by the way?

It's quite simple, Pommps. Shit players are shit players whether they play on a bowling green or a beach. Good players with fine technique will always thrive on a better surface, but still have the ability to play on lesser quality stuff. Wimbledon used to have a right old field of a pitch, cos they hoofed it so the surface wasn't important, indeed it helped neutralise teams that pass on the floor. Brain Clough once had the Fire Brigade flooding the Baseball Ground before a European Cup tie to give them an advantage. Much like cricket, you can prepare things to help your strengths but it isn't always going to swing in your favour, but ultimately it's marginal gains, good players will still mostly prevail whatever the pitch is like.

Having seen both the rust buckets desso and the blades desso up close why is ours better than theirs? And I'm not even being biased! I'd have thought they'd be pretty identical to be fair.

I think you'll find ours was done with grass seed while they used rice, supplied by a follow called Paddy Fields I believe.........:)

Adkins? On a serious note Jamie Murphy aside  the desso has enabled the best playing surface for our highly talented playing staff to ply their trade on, all assembled out of Kevin and the prince's pocket and will continue to do year after year;)
Actually, not all assembled out of the owners' pockets, I think what we pay to watch them makes a significant contribution too.

Pitch invasions eh no wonder society is like it is :D;)

What we have here,is a pillar of society indulging in illegal activity just because his football team have won a game,no thought given to the feelings of the Northampton grounds man,who is missing a vital part of his pitch, questions also need to be asked how did he manage to smuggle a spade into the ground?

In a pre-meditated act of criminality, a Sheffield United footballer, possibly John Fleck (go easy on him :fattwat:), used his studs to churn said *small* piece of surface from it's roots during a game of association football. It was laying, in distress, a person who shall remain nameless thought it may be a handy souvenir of a good day out only right that someone looked to save it from it's slow and painful death.

Whilst we are informing the authorities, I can actually name the only individual in attendance in the Blades ends that didn't end up on the pitch :)

I heard he hid it behind his flare or was it down them;)

Still no answer for 2015-16. And this bloke sees every match (so he says)

Show me were I have said I see every game Mr Zero Loyalty points,I did see United lift the trophy on Sunday for being the Champions of our league

Feller, I'm so impressed. While you were cashing in your loyalty, showing the world (which gives equally zero fucks) what a billy bastard big blade you were (yelling at distant figures) and rejoicing as much as I have that McCabe didn't sell any players from under Wilder's feet, I was on holiday. Yeah. It was fucking lush. Sorry I don't fulfil your template of a supporter, or speak out of turn like I do, but >this< is how much of a fuck I give about your Sunday. Would United still be champions if you didn't go, just like me? Probably. That's how much you matter.

Anyway. Talk to me about 2015-16 and our season on the Desso. Gwaaaan. You know you want to.

Bless,I'm glad you were impressed that I got to see United lift the league trophy at a packed Bramall Lane,a trophy they got for gaining 100 points, whilst you are reduced to arguing about a lovely playing surface you will never see

Let's call it another internet victory for you shall we,I have noted that you cannot find the alleged quote you said I had made about me attending every game

I don't need to quote you. You are by far more a gigantic blade than I will ever be, and the fact that you attend just makes you thus.

However, with all your bollocks about the pitch, and you being all bone-hard about 100 points and all that, you still won't explain 2015-16 and why we were so shit on the Desso. Because you can't. That fact alone makes you a lil' bit silly. But, y'know. Carry on.

I will carry on going to watch United play, you carry on arguing on the Internet about a lovely playing surface you will never see, with people who do see it.

100 points,30 wins,Billy 30 goals,Champions by 14 points,I think that is something to feel very very proud about

It is. However, you don't have anything to offer about the wonderful playing surface and its inability to work its magic on last years setup.

You still won't admit that it has less to do with the pitch and everything to do with one Christ Wilder, his team recruitment, selection, strategy and the fact that McCabe hasn't sold anyone so crucially vital that it would damage the momentum. No. To you, it's all about the pitch. Even the games we won away.

Incidentally, the pitch is clearly in view on every highlights package and live game I choose to view, at my leisure. This is anther matter you haven't quite worked out either, isn't it? You are the forum's Diane Abbot and I claim my £5.
