Absolutely love this, 2 CBS on the halfway line, CM like a number 10, wingbacks like wingers.

Norwood sat square in the centre circle.

Even the keeper isn’t in the 6 yard box, probably because he’s always running over to the crowd.

Shows the formation we play. None of this 4-4-2 bollocks, have some 1-3-6, Wilder style. :D

Typical United, square peg in a round hole.

Love the balance left and right with the L/R Centre halves and L/R Wingbacks

Although, wtf is Duffy doing so far up the pitch, doesn't he track back? He's ahead of both strikers and he didn't score ;)

Good point about Duffy, also I had Mcgoldrick sat behind sharp most of the game, surprised Sharp is the deepest of the 3

I thought myself that Duffy was playing 10 yards further forward this season. Practically our CF at times with the 2 strikers dropping off into wider positions.
But to be fair the lad gets everywhere.

Does that image show the players' average positions when they were in possession of the ball individually, or when the team had it?

I certainly doubt that the image covers our positions when they had the ball (Hull had 47,4% possession).

I’m assuming it’s just for the game, not possession.

If it’s taken off GPS, it would be difficult to separate the 2.

Whoscored.com have heatmaps, showing where each player was when they touched the ball. For Duffy, making 58 touches, it looks like this:

So, as he drifts both to the right and left, he's likely to get an average position centrally.

Sharp made 25 touches and I reckon a few have come when he's helped out defensively, which withdraws his average position in the image in the opening post:

It shows avg positions with on ball involvements Bergen as you rightly show with who scored heat maps if a player drifts from left to right wing his avg position will show up centrally so although i like them and use them myself it can give a false picture if taken literally.

On the point about Duffy appearing further fwd than strikers, that's been the case in at least 5 games this season. Reason being is, once Duffy receives ball near the opposition box but on the wings when we are looking to set up overloads/ 1-2 situations, Mbappe (sorry Mcgoldrick) drops off to link play to opposite if needed, obviously that again distorts the avg positioning map. I study these touch maps after most games and that's probably the 2nd time i can remember this season when majority of our player avg positions were in opposition half. Duffy's positions and touches are fascinating, last season it was 90% left hand side linking with Stevens and Fleck. Now with re-introduction of Freeman, Norwood playing lots of passes to both sides but favours the right and Basham's outstanding form, Duffy is drifting more and more to the right hand side (think goals at Millwall). Freeman is a huge part of our season in terms of attacking shape so far.
