Average Position

Fancy reading to get something against the scum I do

But can also see us dropping points against Brentford

What about based on average position over the course of the season? Take it on game by game position the run ins look harder and easier every week. I think Villa went from 14th to 9th after one game this week for example

I said on another thread we could W6 D1 L3 (19 points) and finish on 87 points.
If one of the wins is at Leeds, that would put us 1 point ahead with 9 to play.
Therefore, assuming our goal difference remains better than theirs, they would need 20 points from the last 9, meaning at least 6 wins would be needed.
They should beat Reading (A) Millwall (H) Wigan (H) Ipswich (A) The other 2 most likely to come from Wednesday (H) Villa (H) but will do well to win more than 6 with Brum and Preston and Brentford away.

If, however, they beat us, they go 5 ahead with 9 to play.
If they win 6 of the 9 that means we would need to make up(subject to goal difference) 23 points from 9 games meaning at least 7 wins would be needed.
I really don't think we could manage that, so unless Leeds have a mini wobble, we really need to beat them.
That uncharacteristic blunder in the home match could really end up being the difference :(

Villa away would be the one that sticks in the throat if we are a point shy.

Yeah or the Stoke equaliser after pummeling them. The list is longer than it should be.
Or the Rotherham equaliser.....kinell, we've dropped a load of unnecessary points.

Edit: To be fair though, we didn't deserve to win that one anyway.

Banana skins all over the place there, for all four teams. The last three games could be very interesting indeed, especially as all four play away, home, away.

I still think we might win the league.

Average position is largely irrelevant. Firstly, the maths means that it could be 50% top teams and 50% bottom but a fixture list of mid tablers would give the same “average position” - which is the better option?
I’ve said before and many others have too that the run in will be all about nerve and ability to deliver when things get squeaky. Those fighting relegation or trying to make playoffs will all be going all out. The only stat that matters is points won and conjecture at this point in the season is largely meaningless unless your a gambler - and I’m not.
We have a solid defence - strike line that can score and quality in midfield with options in case of injury. Win our games and I believe we’ll go up as I can see the top two having a stumble at some point. If they don’t, it’s playoffs but I’ll still be confident. Past performance is no indication of what this team under Wilder can do - remember the World Cup, England and penalties?

Just going off last 10 games average and Leeds run in gets a bit tougher. Teams starting to scrap more now as time runs out!Screenshot 2019-03-11 at 22.24.55.png
Anyway its all about who performs on that day. We seem to be able to adapt against teams we come up against before now and most of the teams we lost to in the top 6 we've got a result against in the return fixture. Do the same Saturday hopefully

Our first 5 games are quite hard but I would expect us to win our last 5 games.

Analyse it however you like but it all means nowt.

All that matters is that we keep playing well - and we have done in just about every match since Wilder rolled into town - and we’ll be ok.

I do think it’s looking like any 2 from 3 for autos. But even that can still change.

I think we’ll remain unbeaten to the end of the season now. I don’t think we’ll win them all, but I don’t think we’ll lose any.

It’s fantastic to be in this situation. Let’s enjoy the ride and see where it takes us.

Fully concur with your first sentence, to me it makes a lot of sense. Gave you a like for the second sentence. Reason being since watching the Villa 3-3 I've been convinced it will happen. No logical reason for thoughts, just following and watching United and football in general for many years. Plus the present team, both players and management combined are the strongest, mentally and physically, I have witnessed. I strongly believe they will deliver, they will have slip ups but not quite as many as the others. Go'na be memorable day at Stoke.

Out of those remaining games I think we won two of the corrosponding ones last season (didn't play Stoke) . One of them was Leeds though.
I accept we are better ourselves this season. What will be will be.

At this stage of the season, playing a team fighting relegation can be more difficult than playing a mid table side with nothing to play for.

I dont think we can even put WBA in the mix
The chances of 2 of the 3 above them collapsing is slim

They fell out of contention with their home record since the year started
to make up 9 points with 10 left is a bridge too far

Since Barnes got recalled they are a lot less lethal

Similarly 14 points to 7th means we are assured the play offs barring a complete collapse

I don't think any of the games are any easier than any others. The teams near the bottom will be fighting for their lives and you usually see them pick up some surprising wins. Even when a team has had relegation confirmed, they can play with freedom. Chesterfield nearly spoiled our party and Ipswich come to BDTBL in the penultimate game.

Like many others, I think it will go to the last game of the season.

Think the Chesterfield performance was “Peroni” linked and not the opposition mindset!!
