Disagree completely ,sensible -Blade / deluded - pig. You can be optimistic and sensible. Although some of the sensibles on this thread might want to have a word with themselves

You also get the ones who are forever battling against their inferiority complex. The number of times I've stated the obvious about our promotion prospects only to be told "oi, better leave that kind of talk to the pigs". I genuinely fear for the mental stability of some of these when we go up. Same for this play-off gods bollocks being repeated ad infinitum. Different times, different players, different manager.

I wonder if anyone will change, not just their opinion, but the way they actually look at things, in future? Because that to me, is the most worrying thing of all. If you go through life throwing the towel in on things prematurely, or believing that it's not possible in the first place, then how on earth do you get through life? You certainly won't be getting from life what you could achieve, because negativity breeds more negativity and failure becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

yep, well written - agree totally.

yep, agree too and ALL because of this "Different times, different players, different manager"

The past does not determine the future - the future is what you make it.

There is absolutely no reason why we can’t win the league. Leeds and WBA are quite capable of dropping points like the rest of the league. We are just 4 points behind Leeds yet most of the football world are still discounting our chances. I really don’t mind Media pundits and opposition fans doing this. But when fellow Blades are thinking the same thing it is rather deflating to say the least.

Leeds bench from the weekend :
Substitutes
  • 11Roberts
  • 13Huffer

  • Blades :
Substitutes
  • 8Dowell
  • 9Clarke
  • 14Madine
  • 15Coutts

  • We have a far stronger squad than Leeds.

That represents our best bench, that represents Leeds’ worst bench.

They currently have Blackman, Douglas, Phillips, Dallas, Brown and Bamford out injured.

Yeah but the dirties are all young and home grown playing brilliant football the likes of what the championship has never seen before, huge club with an Argentinian manager how can they fail? is what the media is telling us.

The reality is they are 4pts in front of us with exactly the same goals for and against. I'm happy for us to be slipping under the radar.

Probability wise, I don’t think we’ll win the league, nor will we get promoted. This is not being pessimistic, it is being realistic. The ride has been/will be fun.

The Barnet game showed our lack of strength in depth and lack of youth coming through, which is worrying.

We are unable to invest £’s in the right areas to increase the chance of promotion.

We are heavily reliant on the older/injury prone players for our goals/creation of goals. An injury to either/both of Sharp or McG and it’s season over. We have been very, very luck with McG, but his back history shows he’s injured at least once a season and you get 30 games from him. He’s currently on 27 with us. We’ve brought Madine, who has not scored since 20/01/18. Other than 11/12 for Wednesday and part of last season for Bolton, he’s never been a consistent scorer. He’s a foil not a finisher.

If you SWATed us, we currently have two stonkingly glaring weaknesses. The need for a younger goalscorer to take the pressure off BS and McG and the need for a mobile CB who can play in our overlapping system. To acquire both of those at the desired quality level would cost £’s and that is something that we don’t appear to have.

'19 to go......'

With this management team and these players we have the capabilities of winning them all.

In 1994 we were relegated from the Premier league under suspicious circumstances. It took us 12 years to return.

In 2007 we were relegated from the Premier league under suspicious circumstances..........

We also have the 13 year relegation cycle to look forward to 68, 81,94, 07

I find it interesting that so many people are talking about the autos as an outside possibility and the play-offs as almost secure. We are in second place with no one behind us with games in hand. That means the position is ours by rights, so everyone assuming we won't keep it thinks that at least one team below us is better than us. How can anyone think that at the moment?

The lack of convincing promotion contenders is a pleasant surprise. Sometimes that happens and an opportunity opens up. Hopefully this season will be one of them, and we're the ones to benefit.

I honestly thought autos had gone when we were nine points behind the top two and we seemed to have stalled results wise.

How happy am I to be totally wrong (although anything can happen-we all know how that can pan out)

However, we seem to have stepped up a gear somehow and I think the quality of the signings eg Egan and Norwood are now showing their true worth and for me they (amongst a few others) are the difference in being an average Champ side to being a side that genuinely can challenge for the promotion places.

The recent acquisitions of Dowling and Madinio will also add quality to the group. Don't know much about the Everton lad but I really think that the goal machine will be a good addition to the attacking options. I realise that he has baggage and has not always made the correct decisions in his 'private' life. The press always have a field day when reporting on sports people and often these things are much exaggerated.

Great time to be a Blade at the moment, loving what Wilder is doing - what a legend.

so was it a premature proclamation?
You had an unwarranted dig at me for suggesting that you were jumping the gun with your op ‘Autos gone after today’and that things can change quickly.

Now to the beginning of March is the toughest run of fixtures. We have Bolton and Reading in there but the others are all pretty much six pointers.

If we are still top two after THAT game on the 4th March then we are going up IMO.

But it is a big ask make no mistake.

We're far enough into the season that our position is no fluke. Only two teams have scored more and only one conceded fewer than us.

In terms of the squad, we're stronger than we were last season. Our bench is now comprised mostly of Championship players, something we didn't have the luxury of when Coutts got injured. Players that were up and comers like JOC, Fleck, Stevens, Baldock, are now proven at this level.

When we had a top scorer in Clarke last season I said more than once that, good a player as he is, our style of play does a lot to make our strikers look good, and this season Sharp is showing again that we create real chances for our front men.

I'm not sure we can go the distance. We're still capable of a few poor performances and our high risk, high reward approach always has the potential to backfire in games (remember Walsall away...). But the fact is that Wilder and his players are making a habit of proving doubters wrong. First we'd never go the distance in League One. Then our good start was just momentum. Then our players were over-performing. At some point you've got to look at us and say we have some bloody good players and a fantastic manager.

If Wes Morgan can take a Premier League medal, Sheffield United can finish second in the Championship.

I classed as the autos as 'remote' after we lost to West Brom, at which point I was duly pulled up by Cerberus Blade . Fair play to him on that and I started to eat my humble pie on here after the Blackburn win.

We can however, only make predictions on the teams form, quality and our own experiences of watching/perhaps playing the beautiful game.

As things stand we are starting to look unstoppable, reminiscent of how it all felt when we dispatched Bolton in league one, but there is still an awful long way to go. West Brom losing Barnes has done us a huge favour though and I think Norwich might drop off. Beat them in a couple of weeks and we could be sitting very pretty indeed. I am actually more worried about Boro now though. Master shithouses tend to come good on the run in and if they start scoring a few more they will become a major threat. We will need decent cushion over them in case that happens.

I'm worried about West Brom but I think we're better than everyone else.

Agree, think West Brom have the best players, probably followed by Villa.
If those 2 click they’ll move up the table. I still have this feeling WBA might make the top 2 and I see them as the biggest danger.

Think Leeds are very similiar to us, the team plays as a unit and is much better then their individual parts.
I suppose with us and Leeds it’s whether we run out of steam?

If I had to predict a top team to fall away I’d say Norwich, they’ve scored so many last minute winners and it can’t keep continuing.
Also I think Boro are solid to stay in the play-offs but don’t have enough attacking flair to finish top 2.
