Atmosphere today

I sit on the Kop and it was ok today. Could have been better, could have been worse.

Wasn't bouncing but not sure what people expect at this level with the opposition and usually small away followings.

All things considered their support was excellent in numbers and noise but even from the BL side of the South Stand it wasn't enough to engage with.

If and when we get promoted you'll see atmospheres in the Championship. Guaranteed.

I tried for over a minute singing ONE DAVID BASSETT, THERE'S ONLY ONE DAVID BASSETT"! We were 4 up at the time and I knew he was there in the South Stand because Wilder said he was there today but no one joined in and I just looked a total tool! My mate thought it was hilarious though!

I actually thought the atmosphere was pretty decent to be honest though.

Well if you don't sing and participate,, it will be what's created.

You'be gotta be in it to win it. 30 people at the back of the kop singing, will still be 30 people singing if no one else joins in.

Stop talking the atmosphere down if you're not joining in. We are all there at the game, so sing up and be a part, instead of complaining that someone else isn't singing for you..

Spot on.

I thought today was an improvement on many this season though.

I too wish it was the 74/75 season all over again and I was still the age I was then. In those days the atmosphere was created by us youngsters, not our dads & grandads, and that's what would need to happen now. At my age I'm not going to be on my feet singing for 90 minutes, sorry if that doesn't suit.

I'm hardly someone who is negative, in fact I'm very positive.

But the atmosphere is atrocious for a team top of the league. There's no excuse and we should be much noisier. There was a spell in the 2nd half when Wimbledon kept the ball for a bit and plenty around me on the Kop (who were sat on their hands when we were doing well) were ripping some of the players to shreds. You try and get songs going and they don't make the effort.

Wimbledon brought good numbers and despite having their 1st shot in the 90th minute were pretty noisy. I thought the reason we couldn't get the noise levels up was lack of away fans?

I didn't think it was too bad, I reckon there was a bit of collective breath holding until the 3rd went in.

I thought Wimbledon's fans were excellent, they sang the whole way through and with humour. I liked the way they sang 'You're going up' when Moore and the defence left it to each other in the in the second half, (as if we were jammy) and the way they went ballistic when they had their only proper shot on target at the end.

Was on the Westfield fairly close and I think it was 'You're not going up' they were singing. Lively bunch though, good on 'em, even thuogh I got a bit put off with the "smelly northern cunts" stuff on Roygbiv 's pre match thread.

The atmosphere is the product of so many years of failure. Ironically the crowd are now more appreciative than the players. They fail they move on but we can't, we will be here for ever.We are stuck in a paralysis of worry, playing teams we know we should beat but scared to assume we will. I actually think that with the tougher opposition in the next two home games we will see a more vocal support.

It's down to apprehension. Not an excuse for me personally, but it is an explanation.

Fans are impatiently waiting to get out of this division, made worse by previous failures.

If we win promotion, the question of shit atmosphere will be put to bed. It's bad now but it won't always be.

Seemed a little bit better than of recent, but I could only hear the Kop (was on gangway B of the South Stand) about half a dozen times outside of goals/mandatory GCB. Can understand if it's a cagey tight match but we were ahead after two minutes...

95% of football fans throughout the world feel that same paralysis ;)

The GCB is becoming a cringefest. A dreary durge then the sound of 20,000 seats banging down as we descend into silence.

Why don't they show the scores on the big screen of Bolton, Scunthorpe etc in traditional "Today's latest details" style? That might give the fans a lift.

Plus the 4th went in and everyone just left. Strange times indeed.

That really annoys me. I can understand fans wanting to get out early when we've been hammered but not to stop and applaud the players off after an excellent performance gets my goat.

All so they can save 10-15 minutes of their life avoiding traffic

Have multiple likes. I've been saying it for years. Good thing yesterday though is many stayed on the kop to applaud the players off, which was pleasing. I don't get it when people leave early when we're playing well, how many of these people would leave a film 10 minutes before the end?
