Athletic and pace

Arter exactly the kind of player I think we'll avoid, and rightly so.

I agree with the areas of recruitment, definitely need cover/competition for Stevens and Baldock, strikers, a long term Duffy replacement, JOC cover etc, but I doubt we'll be getting people you've heard of like Wilson and Mount, personally wouldn't want Mount anyway, bit nesh, but that's me.

I'd stick Robinson from Preston on the list though if we're throwing names in.

Ben Davies from PNE too. one thing that may also happen is teams like Chelsea, Liverpool, man Utd see how we play and how we develop players and now we have PL status they may be coming to us to take their best young players

why exactly ?

To me he's just one of those "temp office worker" types of the Premier League, more losses than wins in his PL career, unwanted at Bournemouth but straight in a PL team elsewhere, probably on high wages, and has nothing to prove as a seasoned PL starter.

I would say so, I expect there will be a decent No of additions, and as usual many will leave us disappointed to start with and eating our words by xmas.

for me we need

2 x GKs
RWB
LWB
1/2 CBs (L+R)
1 CM
1 AM
2 Strikers

As examples
Dean Henderson
Gary Madine
Ollie McBurnie
Harry Arter (Free)
Andy King
Carl Jenkinson (big wages) (Free)
Stephen Ward (Free)
Tyrone Mings
Michael Hector (LOL)
Gavin Massey (Free)
Nick Powell (Free)
Reece James (Sorry I will not shut up about him until he signs elsewhere)
Harry Wilson
Mason Mount
Lewis Baker
Sam Byram

Some decent options from Chelsea who are in that weird 22-25 year old age bracket and are somehow still considered young players

Dean Henderson - Certified starter
Gary Madine - wouldn't start
Ollie McBurnie - maybe a potential starter
Harry Arter (Free) - not near quality of our midfielders
Andy King - same as above
Carl Jenkinson (big wages) (Free) - injury record but possible upgrade on freeman/baldock
Stephen Ward (Free) - good backup
Tyrone Mings - real good competition for JOC
Michael Hector (LOL) - Not good enough
Gavin Massey (Free) - same as above
Nick Powell (Free) - don't know much
Reece James (Sorry I will not shut up about him until he signs elsewhere) - Top quality player
Harry Wilson - same as above
Mason Mount - dont know much
Lewis Baker - same as above
Sam Byram - same as above

Couple good players in there but if wilder signed all of them and kept the team in the division he would actual be the best prem manager to ever live. :D

Trying to think like Wilder, Mitchel etc. Rather than who I think. Can see Wilder wanting King.

Agree on Tyrone Mings--big lad, athletic and definitely a stand out for Villa.

In fact having watched the Palace game, seems we need all recruits to be 6ft+ , bloody fast and athletic in whichever position. The speed they (Palace) transitioned play at does give cause for concern with current squad we have

Ah, the biannual 'we need pace' thread that appears before each transfer window.

I quite prefer the ol' footballing talent of Duffy, Norwood, Fleck and McGoldrick, but some rapid Connor Washington, Marvin Johnson or Michael O'Halloran fucker would certainly give us another dimension.

Being reight good at football, short, chubby and Scouse > being reight fast and strong and alright at football.

Being reight food at football and also being reight fast and strong... Let's do that.
The 3 players you mentioned are gash, how about comparing with players who have played in the PL?

I'd stick Robinson from Preston on the list though if we're throwing names in.

Robinson ticks every box outlined here.

First of all was pleasing to see you get over the line ahead of Leeds. Fully deserved promotion.

Regarding Robinson, I posted at the time that last summer that I'd been reliably informed that you'd had £2.5m turned down for him. Wouldn't surprise me at all if you come back in now. You'll have bigger finances to do a deal and either side of his injury this season he's been outstanding, could definitely be a decent Prem player IMO.

He's run his contract down too so only has a year left, and so far hasn't countenanced signing. He was supposedly nailed on to go to Bournemouth for 8 figures before his bad hamstring injury mid-season. They are still hovering around but looking at other options now like James from Swansea, and Tavernier from Boro.

Tammy Abraham
Neil Maupay
Reece James
Aidan Flint
Dean Henderson
Ryan Woods

That's my wishlist. All very gettable loan or perm imo.

Blimey anyone would think just because we are now looking for more athletic players we are suddenly going to go down the Al Davis route.

He would've surely been off in January - had he stayed fit he would have had 15+ goals by that point. And by now, 20 for the season, which is incredible.

Bournemouth used David Brooks' period of glandular fever to get him cheaper so I wouldn't be surprised if they do the same with Robinson now after his injury.

What do you think he'd cost now?

Pace, height, strength, set piece ability....

Our recruitment needs to factor in all of those.

I'd barely be signing a single player who isn't a decent athlete.
What do you mean by the height , 6’ plus or 5’ 6” ish. ?

I think we'll need to maximise what we do from set pieces more than ever, and should seek tall players who can fit into the way we play.

The lack of physicality in midfield and attack is where this current team would fall short at PL level.

I’d be happy to find younger versions of Duffy and Billy.

Last time we got promoted I remember thinking after a few games how much more physical and athletic the players are at that level. We definitely need some extra strength and athletism in the squad.

Bournemouth were supposedly talking 8 figures. Not sure it will be quite that high but will still be significant (£8-9m).

To be fair in the 21 minute Wilder Interview he highlighted the exact profile he will be looking for.. not sure he specifically stated pace but he alluded to it. He also said young....

... and also black? Just the only thing missing from the all elusive magical Blades trifecta!

We won’t be able to pen teams in nearly as often as we do now, as we’ll be the ones getting penned in. If we haven’t got 1 or 2 with pace we won’t be able to get out and that’ll be our undoing in most games and will result in relegation. The staff will know this and they will be looking for some pacy attackers without a doubt.

We won’t get caught on the counter apart from against the very best - we’re too well organised.

Last year of contract, had a significant injury and will probably push for a move if word gets to him a premiership team are interested. More likely 3-4m if you're lucky.
