At what point do I...

...start referring to this as my favourite Blades side during my life time?

I'm 30, old enough to:
  • Remember the several failed play-off finals
  • Remember the brief spells of Bruce and Speed
  • Remember the cup runs of the late 1990s, beating Coventry on Penalties, that Arsenal goal and the replay
  • Remember the dire times of league one
  • Not quite old enough to remember the promotion at Leicester clearly...
  • Remember the barren spells before the Warnock years
  • Remember the cup runs, the promotion under Warnock and everything that side brought; so many memories, so much character, so much pride - they are, in my mind, the holders of "greatest United side in my life time".
Until...now? A Blade as manager, a Blade as captain. 100 points last season, champions of league one, with Billy as the top scorer in the league. Several Blades in the team of the season, parades through Sheffield, simpleh lovleh sessions on peroneh. Utterly, utterly superb football, a never-say-die attitude, the most organised side I have seen in my life time, a formation that was first introduced to fit the players we had and has since transformed to the formation of choice - a formation that the players know so well, and we have such squad depth and a calibre of players that they can all fit in for one another as needed. Such possession football.

To have the feeling of going into a game feeling confident of winning. I grew to love that last season, never did I expect to be feeling it most weekends in the Championship - the mentality of "I don't care who you are, we're going to give you a game". Beating Barnsley, beating the pigs, now beating Leeds - and all on a relative shoestring budget! That Fleck free-kick, that Brooks turn, Jake Wright looking like he's played at this level all his life, Billy chasing down Rickie Lambert's goal scoring record, Brooks signed to a long-term deal, that Beautiful midfield three and everything they are so good at - all of this and so much more.

When we came up, I asked for one thing - to simply show other teams what we could do, how we liked to play, to show some of the form and the passing football that rightly saw us promoted as champions. My word have we done that, my word do we continue to do that. Bloody hell, am I proud. We lost my Grandad last year, I wish he could've seen this United side play football the way they do - I said to my Dad last night, he'd have never believed us if we'd have told him dem Blades were a little bit like Brazil (he passed away before Wilder was appointed).

It may or may not last, who knows what is possible. But under Wilder and Knill and with this squad of players, I believe. Enjoy every second of it Blades, we deserve to be enjoying our football again.

Up The Blades!

Kozzy, I recall you from BladesMad, always enjoyed your posts, especially your visual cut and post jobs.

The loss of a loved one is always tough, and knowing how you and your family are Blades through and through makes what's currently happening all the sweeter.

Every team in this division could have done what Wilder has put together. It's obvious that it's about the quality of a player, not his price tag, yet so many fans seem to think that by spending silly money it guarantees success. The fact that fans like Wendy's still come out with uninformed bollocks like Paul who? Or who's this fucker Duffy? Well long may this continue, you remain in your padded rooms, the Blades will, just do as they've done, select players who the club feels are right for what we're building, and you lot can continue to spend (you've not spent your budget, have you?!?) as if it gives you the right to imagine you're actually a good side.....let me share a little secret piggies, you're about as good as your shower of underachievers are able to be. In summary, you're second, possibly third rate. Your whole approach to how to succeed is misguided and ill-conceived........and with that dear Koz, rest assured mate, as long as Wilder is steering this ship we'll be fine. I really don't care about the other lot. let 'em moan and whinge, does any of it change things? Of course not.

Good post fella, I'm certain you'll have lots of reasons to celebrate the success the Blades are having and will continue to have. UTMB!!!

Up The Blades!

Started watching in the John Harris days. He was an aloof father figure type and rarely did you hear him speak, but he simply assembled the best side I had ever seen in the early 70s. There was no doubt why he was called "Gentleman John". He was the complete antithesis of Wilder, the Peroni swigging working class lad from Sheffield.

However, what they do have in common is integrity and honesty. I believe whatever they do/did is entirely for the benefit of the club. We have had enough bullshitters at the club over the years, from Happy Harry Haslam to Madkins and a lot more inbetween

For now we just have to believe this is the best team since the John Harris days and hope they can achieve what they did.
