It's a 2-1 victory to Oxford United at home...we're still 22nd, 4 points from a possible 15. Not quite success yet. Great result and much needed, but these are the results that should be that run of the mill we barely even get giddy about it.

True we know that but let's at least allow ourselves to enjoy the moment.;)

Got to be honest, when I had a look today at our starting lineup it filled me with dread. Our central defensive partnership of James Wilson, who arrived with mixed reviews from Bury (a lower end league 1 side) next to an ageing, injury prone defender not deemed good enough by League 2's Oxford United last year. Either side of them - Freeman, who barely got a game at League 2's Portsmouth and Hussey who simply can't defend.

Moving forwards we have Scougall, Coutts and Basham in the middle, who we all know can't defend, create or score goals. And either side of them - Duffy, who has quality but isn't showing it - and Done, who isn't a winger. Sharp up front the only player I rate, not showing much form.

I'm delighted that we've won today, but the standard of players at this club just gets worse and worse. We may end up in a dog fight this year.

Apologies for the negativity.

scruffy at times, wasteful too... but a few good moves and 2 nice goals, it`s the start we needed today. UTB

as an aside... did sammon score the 90th minute goal for hearts today?....

From the stream we looked better second half but the defence still looks dodgy.

Having someone like Done up front does make a difference as he can turn defenders and put them under pressure.

Both well taken goals and we still need some more pace in this team.

Do as you please, personally I can't enjoy that much while ever we're not in the top 2, let alone 20th.

I'll join you when we're in the automatic spots.

Was Sharp waving good bye at the end or to his family in John Street?

Barney do you still feel as confident as you did 5 months back about Wilder and his astounding ability?
Still backing 2nd place?

Clearly not as confident about promotion or Wilder.

It'd be foolish to take any other stance with how the season has gone so far.

Just hoping that today is the start of the climb a la Wigan.

We just moved up two places after the final whistle, hooray! At this rate, we could be top two by the time we get to Gillingham..

Can't understand the moan. Thought Wright and Wilson were very promising.

The difference under Wilder is that they don't hide and give everything. Small steps but I'm encouraged.

Churchill also once said , 'This isn't the end or the beginning of the end - but with hard work it is the end of the beginning. Up The Blades!' Or something like that.

I'll try and explain. 6 years in League 1, have 4 points from 5 games and things don't look like they're going to improve. We have a terrible board and our players (the majority anyway) now look like they're of a League 2/lower end League 1 standard. We've gotten rid of our better players. We're not going up, or even challenging this year and look likely to be in a relegation battle. Beating Oxford, at home, hasn't consoled me all that much.

Just can't understand how you can write off a whole season. We look like a team which has signed 9 players and has been struggling to put it together. There were glimpses of hope there and patches of better play. This squad was 10th/11th best last year and I think we're looking stronger.

But the biggest thing of all for me, after 9 years of malaise and decline, was for the first time we actually showed a little bit of guts and a bit of passion. It wasn't against Tottenham or in an FA Cup semi final on SKY, it was in a dog fight when the chips were down. We actually had a go.
