Apologies if already posted but really good article full of interesting stuff: https://theathletic.com/1463708/?source=twitteruk

For anyone who doesn't subscribe to The Athletic, a couple of amusing/interesting bits from it:
  • Wilder went around personally unscrewing all of the motivational quote signs put up by Adkins
  • He doesn't like forced regular squad meetings, just prefers them as and when. The players had meetings after the games against M'boro at the start of last season, the Villa draw, and after the home loss to Bristol City. In that latter meeting, Wilder was apparently less confrontational and instead was trying to reinforce how important it is to stick to our principles and make sure we kept up our belief
  • An article calling Sharp and McGoldrick journeyman and tipping Derby, Leeds, Villa and Norwich for promotion spent weeks on the training ground wall early last season. That kind of stuff is also the reason why Wilder rarely comments on other teams/managers mid-season
  • We're paying a fair bit of Duffy's wage still even while he's at Stoke
Feel a bit bad sharing the text of an article behind a paywall so openly on a forum, but if anyone wants it, PM me.

To be fair, considering that of that list, 2 went up (one as Champions, one was winning play-off finalist),, one was the losing play-off finalist, and the remaining team (Leeds) finished 3rd in the league and only narrowly lost the Championship semi-final, they didn't predict that too badly really!

The "journeyman" lark about Billy and Didzy is a bit uncalled-for however.

You get 3 free articles a month, which is usually enough to read anything worthwhile about United.

I keep thinking of subscribing to the athletic, is it worth it?

I signed up during an offer so it costs about £1.40 a month - which can’t really be grumbled at. Depends how much sport you’re into really, if it’s Blades only then I’d say don’t bother but I can read football articles all day, plus the boxing coverage is also pretty good.

The vast majority of Blades articles are written by Richard Sutcliffe from the YP.

Aye, they're all journey men.

On a journey up the premier league.

How many clubs maketh a journeyman? Loan or permanent?

Don't think anyone would call Dean Henderson a journeyman but he's been at 6 clubs.
