Good article, but a near-sellout tonight? I doubt we will hit 20k

Yes really good article and I see ,like the players, the manager wants to manage at the highest level With United?

Don't know wether I think a purely British squad is a good thing - particularly with the price of British players these days.

Leicester picked up Mahrez for something like 300k and Kante for about 5m. That's the price of an average championship player these days like che adams.

Won't always work but if we are looking for value for money we'd be best off looking abroad and expanding our horizons.

Now that United are in the Championship, they will start setting up a European scouting network. Previously, Wilder had travelled to the continent on a handful of occasions based on tip-offs from agents. “We are open, now we are in the Championship, to broadening our horizons,” he said.

"Wilder’s ambitions stretch beyond the second tier of English football. The 49-year-old is highly regarded within the game. That much became evident in May when Sam Allardyce recommended Wilder to Steve Parish, the Crystal Palace chairman, after he resigned as manager.

Wilder is too self-deprecating to accept Allardyce’s praise. “He said that because I was sat next to him, topping up his wine at an LMA [League Managers Association] do,” Wilder said with a chuckle."

Personally I wouldn't want our Chris sat anywhere near that bent get. After all the 'BBC trouble' when he was accused of bungs and dodgy dealings with his son as an agent, we then get the backhanders at England despite a fantastic salary.

I only near to heart that Rednapp was sat on CW's other side at the dinner and my day of misery will be complete.

Yeah - that's what I was saying makes sense now we have abit more money to spend scouting to be looking abroad on occasions.

Oddly, all 4 of teams with purely British and Irish squads - us, Exeter, Lincoln and Stevenage - play in red and white stripes

Good spot.

We are of course also the original United, with Exeter City United, Lincoln City United and Stevenage United following at a later date.

Bit of a nothing article, but I suppose it's an unusual thing to see in this day and age.

Like the bit about the 'near sell-out crowd'...take it the author hasn't visited our ticket site? :D

It's when Wilder starts dog sitting for 'Arry - then we have to start worrying!

The Times, eh? Bloody hell...someone's doing alreyt for themselves.
I dont know about that , South Yorkshire times and the Derbyshire times are some of the most biased lieing gutter press going , which is nothing to do with the above article , but i could not resist mentioning it .

It's worked fine so far and I'm proud of what we've achieved, but if we are to move forward I think that we'll have to start dipping our toes into the foreign pool of players to compete and I'm glad to here the club are gearing up for it. We can't afford not to.

It's not all about stars on big money, they'll be good players like Val Borbokis and Dellas out there who jump at the chance to play in the English Championship.

While I agree in general, I'd rather Wilder continue to be pragmatic and do what he feels is best for our progression. It's worked so far after all.

Headline could have been Luddites need to get their act together with scouting.

Old School training facilities wtf?

If we get any foriegn players we will need to employ interpreters so they can understand Wilder's Sheffieldeezzzzzzzz to make 'im 'appy

I couldn't really care where players cone from as long as they're good, give everything on the pitch and committed to the club.

We're the only team in the top two divisions with a purely British and Irish squad. Even Burton have a couple of foreigners. Wilder open to "broadening our horizons" apparently, and there's also a nice story about him and Big Sam.

Thanks for that Hague. Startling stats on the numbers at each club. Wilder will move very slowly into European recruitment I guess, very slowly.

He will vet any player for cultural similarities and I'd also guess the first ones will need to have played English football for some time.
