Arsene Wenger

Net spend fella.

He's also sold the likes of Nasri, Fabregas and others for fees in excess of 25m.

And how much revenue outside of his transfer dealings for providing 21 consecutive years of Champions League Football is he responsible for?

He's still pulling rabbits out of hats now but it's not enough for the instant gratification, overachievement is expected mob that follow them.

John Toral, on loan at Rangers, hardly played any 1st team Football, went to Ipswich as a 20 year old and came back with fan's player of the year, player's player of the year and goal of the season! And that's at a very decent sized club with an experienced manager.

The guy performs miracles every year. And just because he isn't overachieving beyond their means he's a failure. It's really quite ridiculous.

Just off at a slight tangent, we all moan about McCabe from time to time, but when you look at Arsenal they run as a very good business stay in the green don't over pay for players on the whole, and the American who has a bit part on the board takes a lovely 3 Million out for consultancy every year, Now as lovely as it is they are in the green and all that being run like a business means mediocrity is perfect for them challenge too hard and you have to invest, bang goes his 3 million for sweet F**k A** and expectations rise. manage 2,3 or 4th and the balance is perfect money from being one of the top teams and Champions league money, no passion no soul, McCabe might not be the best at times but I would rather have him in charge that some business minded consortium bothered about the money not the football, you can guarantee McCabe will celebrate with the rest of us should we go up.

God that was boring, right on the all things Blades.

its fans expectations that always the rock the boat

we were chugging along nicely in the championship got to several play offs , yes we lost them but were always in the mix
but then finishing 3rd and 8th , suddenly it wasnt good enough
mayhem ensued , and we ended up here

Arsenal fans totally unhappy at ONLY winning 2 FA cups and being permanent top 4

against clubs spending far far more, the 240m they said arsenal could have spent still nowhere near the other contenders

hope they pick some other manager and get relegated

There was also reaction from other former professionals, including ex-Arsenal striker Ian Wright.

He told BT Sport: "The first game was more upsetting than this. I thought the guys had a bit of a go. After the penalty decision it started to go against us.

"It's a sad day because we've gone out again at this stage. We're going through a period in our history that's the worst

The worst period in their history, really?

Bang on, that like there fans nice and numb and excepting of mediocrity, our fans want to win that will not do! Its why they will not hire Diego Simone, he does not fit the clubs ethos.

the club under Wenger made it clear from the start theyd nurture talent and do it with a long term view
not win titles by getting into billion pound debts
how many titles ,mAn utd won lately despite spending more than some countries GDP

Again spot on.

Arsenal fans were told that if they left their stadium and moved to the Emirates they would be able to compete with the best and win major trophies. Since the stadium has been paid off they have accumulated £200m in reserve, not come close to winning a title or professing to the later rounds of the Champions League.

If we were told moving from the Lane to a bowl would enable us to be a regular PL club and challenge for the top six and several years later we're still losing championship playoffs knowing that KM and Princey have got £200m in the back and were taking out £3m a year for advising us, I think a few of our supporters would be pretty pissed off. Especially if we had the highest ticket prices in the league.

Summed up beautifully Bush, I have a few Arsenal fans as friends (Not sure why either) since living down these parts and they all seem numb, nothing to get excited about, I know we have had ups and downs but its a hell of a ride and quiet scary at times, but better that than the numbness of the same season year after year..

I think what undid Arsenal were things outside of their control when they made such bold statements.

When they embarked on such a venture, they were probably thinking they would be in a similar league as Man United in terms of expense, certainly more so than being at Highbury.

What they couldn't have legislated for would be Sheikh Mansour taking an active role in Man City and through his wealth alone, gobbling up one of the Champions League spots. Likewise they probably might not have expected Abramovich to have retained such an active interest in Chelsea.

Their earlier wins were from duels between Man U and Arsenal. Now the order has been disrupted and having 200m in the banks means you are probably only 4th or 5th richest. And even teams like Everton have strong backers.

For all the change, and it was needed, what has happened elsewhere has meant they have just trodden water. This has been an achievement in itself but the fans can't seem to see that.

True, it's certainly made it harder for them but they have money to spend, they had money to spend last season and still didn't sign sufficient quality. So once again, the quality they do have are getting restless and want to leave to go to a club that wins stuff. Just like when they couldn't afford to sign top players five or six years ago and sold their best players to the Manchester clubs.

I actually think that they will decline further when Wenger leaves but I can understand why the supporters have had enough. They're paying top whack and if you do that, you expect a top quality product.

What the actual fuck ???

its true , we got used to being top 6 in the championship , when Blackwell finished 8th we wanted more ,,, immediately
sacking after 2 games was al wrong , should have gone in the summer or kept on
it smacked of a reaction to discontent, rather than a planned change

not on about the merits or not of Blackwell , just the timing was horrific , knocked us off our stride

No. What wasn't good enough was the bizarre decision to appoint Bryan Robson and allow him to piss all the lovely parachute money and Wet Spam payment up against the wall.

Ultimately it was McCabe's erratic poor decision making got us relegated to League 1.

Kevin McCabe sacked Blackwell. It had little to do with our expectations and a lot to do with his expectations, based on the money he'd given Blackwell to get us promoted. And a fit of pique when Blackwell lost to Warnock, after moaning that he'd not had enough money to spend and not naming a full bench in the League Cup game.

Let's suppose we get promoted
Let's suppose we do very well next season
Let's suppose Arsene Wenger leaves Arsenal
Let's suppose Arsenals next manager is a disaster

Would Arsenal be sniffing around Wilder or would they want the usual big name ?

I ask this because Arsenal employed Wenger when he was virtually unknown in this country and if any of the giant clubs would consIder Wilder it might be Arsenal

Arsenal were a South London club for 20+ years in the same neighbourhood as Charlton.

But they relocated North of the river.
They are the original MK Dons.

Was there a waiting list for season tickets for their new North London ground? Anyone know?

It's still the same city. Nothing like MK Dons.

so no one forced his hand with Blackwell ,how very selective your memory is

Over The close season Blackwells already poor relationship wih Trevor Birch had worsened over Birch's widely known favouring of Pemberton "as the future" KB was aggrieved at this and after a bust up with Birch went to McCabe badmouthing almost everyone. The last straw. The QPR debacle gave McCabe the chance. There was no "fit of pique" over the result , he was going. He'd blown money and had caused divisions within the club. The majority of the fans imo had had enough of him anyway.

Actually it was me that said 'fit of pique'. I'm happy to defer to your insider knowledge though.

It's a phrase that's been used many times over that decision. I shouldn't have used the inverted commas but it wasn't a reference to any posters comment, apologies if you thought I meant you.
Incidentally Pembo has been sacked art Bristol City after a "difference of opinion" which probably mean he chinned someone.

I agree a lot of fans wanted him out, thats our prerogative
the timing was just shocking
we should have either got rid in july or given him up till near xmas and gathered some points
we ended up with players he had a plan for , under someone else
much as his style of football wasnt easy to view , it generally gathered points
and its something that never really happened during that season hed manufactured a good away point at heavy spending cardiff , but was elbowed after losing to the eventual champions , it was a crazy time to do it.

As I said, things changed dramatically before the season commenced. Of all the signings he made, I still can't fathom the Leon Britton one.

I can see him wanting the passing Leon brought but he , Blackwell never went for pass and move , and got it forward quickly, britton liked the build up
so got by passed , good player square peg round hole

I am surprised the Arsenal Fans have been so patient to be fair if I was paying upto 2k a season ticket and fobbed off with the same old bullshit and spent peanuts in comparison to the rest I would be fuming as well.

There is no reason why they shouldn't be up there challenging Barca Real Madrid Bayern the problem is lack of real investment in the first team squad.

Arsenal could still finish the season as Premier League runners up and FA Cup winners.

Saying that, if they lose to Lincoln on Saturday Arsene's a gonner for sure
