It was inevitable that we would lose this league cup game a few years ago. Even though it was Arsenal's youngest ever team.

They romped home that night and it was slightly embarrassing. However, looking back now. Look at the starting lineup that Arsenal put out. Fast forward to 39secs to see it.

Although it was humiliating, it's still worth a watch

It was only embarressing until the 5th went in, after that it was just resignation.

It took Arsenal 31 mins to get their first which was a bit of a suprise.

Worst away game I've been to.

For the entire 1st half some dickheads behind us were singing "you're just a team of french fucking niggers".

It was the 1st time I'd took some female friends to a blades game. Unsurprisingly they haven't been since.

Never been one for watching us get beat, let alone a spanking so thank-you but I'd rather pour bleach in my eyes than see us get humiliated like that.

We left at 5-0, and there were Arsenal fans at the tube station, going home. Bearing in mind there was about half an hour left, it reinforced my view that they are amongst the most plastic fans in the country.

Whilst Villa don't really compare that well with Arsenal, people who say our upcoming cup tie with them is a no-lose situation would do well to bear this game in mind.

Having said that, I'm a damn site more confident of avoiding a hammering under Clough than I would have been under Weir.

We left at 3-0 went for a meal and a couple of beers as we were booked on last train to Donny which made the evening much more pleasant than it would have otherwise been.

We had a most pleasant curry on Brick Lane if I recall, so it sounds as if we both had the right idea.

When Arsenal won 7-5 at Reading in the League Cup last year, a lot of Arsenal "fans" left at half-time when they were losing 4-1. Pathetic. Mind you, I've been going to the Lane since 1966 and I've NEVER left a game, home or away, winning, losing or drawing, before the final whistle.

Was in Seattle at the time and logged on in their central library to find the result. Momemts like that you never forget.

Same here.

The only time I have left a game early was ironically Highbury ,just after half time cant remember when ,we were about 5-0 down ,a few us went to a pub outside the ground and told Gary Armstrong loads of made up stories which can be found in Bladerunners :)

Actually there was one occasion. I've just remembered that a few years ago I was on a Friday night train from London to Lancaster (my wife was a general election candidate there) which broke down at Crewe – where, it just so happened, the Blades were playing. We were told it would take half an hour to fix the train so I got off, nipped over to Gresty Road where two of my sons were with the travelling Blades support, gave my kids a hug, saw that the Blades were in complete control of the match, and managed to get back on the train. We won the game, which I saw about 15 minutes of, and eventually promotion.

A bit of quick detective work reveals that must have been the 3-1 win there on 29/8/05 and your wife must be Ann Sacks as she was the only female candidate standing in Lancaster in 2005. I see she lost the seat for Labour :-(

I remember the week before meeting a couple of fellas at the Fat Cat pub in Norwich before the game at Carrow Road on the Saturday. Sharing a taxi to the ground, when mention was made of travelling to Arsenal for the cup game the following week.

Poor souls I thought, when watching the highlights on the TV.

Checking these facts, I noticed that we did go on a three game winning streak after the Arsenal defeat.

HH

The one and only time I've left a game early, think I left as the 5th went in. Wilshire was superb that night and it really was men against boys. Only thing is we were the men!

"Lost the seat for Labour"? A bit harsh. The Tories won, but we put up a decent fight. Sadly, Anne died in 2006 so didn't get the chance to fight to win it back in 2010.
