Aren't you doing well

Wotcha Blades fans. It's been a long while since I've visited your board but it's good to see that the quality of the stuff on here is still up there with the best, abuse and all. As a brief respite from the fun and frolics of life at Roots Hall I thought I would just pop in and say what a fabulous season you guys are having. Painful though it is for me to say this, I regularly check out your results and you are certainly cooking on gas at the moment and still with Mr Wilder leading the way. So, with the greetings done I wish you well and I'm off back to the joy of losing every game between now and the end of the season. How time change!
Thanks a lot Rootshallbloke things have changed for both clubs. Wish you well for the rest of the season.
Could you please pop over to our neighbours forum and cheer them up, they are feeling neglected. Did you know they took 3000 to QPR?

Feel for you HIP, you'r probably one of the old guard missing Upton Park, classic ground with a great, intimidating atmosphere. I would be gutted if we ever left our hallowed ground. I suppose the increase in crowd size justifies the move, it's all about chasing the dollar to try and compete but, I hate to see these old, famous grounds disappear.
Cheers, mate.
The increase in attendance (admitted by Sullivan himself) resulted in us making an extra 10 or 11 million. Unfuckingbelievable.
Proof that the move wasn't justifiable in any way.
I feel the same as you about old grounds. Do 'em up, don't knock 'em down. Unless there really is no choice (which although happens, I would say is rarer).
The trouble is, the cunts making these decisions, I don't think are real football fans. They have no sense or care about us fans sense of history, sentiment, community & identity. WHERE you play is such a huge part of who you are as fans & as a club.
Last night on motd, I noticed where the first row of advertising was, behind your goal. That's how close we used to be, all sides of the pitch.
All I can be, is thankful that I was lucky enough to have experienced that.

A timely reminder of just how far we have come in a short space of time. Football is a fickle mistress at the best of times. Enjoy every moment of this crazy ride we are on Blades fans. And to you roots... I am sorry for the malaise you appear to be in atm....for what it's worth I had one of the best away days/weekend down at yours ever. Good luck for the rest of the season.
If we ever get past the 1st round in the FA Cup (we went out to Dover this time round FFS) then I would absolutely love it if we drew you guys home or away in the 3rd round. If it was at Roots Hall it would be bursting at the seams and I reckon we would bring 4 figures up to your place. Tail end of last season we were just as shite as we are now and we had to beat Sunderland at home to stay up. They bought thousands down and we saw them off with a win. The celebrations were as good as any I have experienced, from both sets of fans, I think the pubs were drunk dry that weekend and we wre all football fans together. As you say, a crazy ride and dreaming big is what makes it all worth while.

Agreed HammerInPeace, even with tight grounds hemmed in by terraced housing, the clubs can (I think Liverpool have done this) easily afford to buy up the houses (and do it diplomatically and with sensitivity) and knock them down to make space. I hope we go down this route on the John Street side.

I might have posted this before Rootshallbloke but I had a girlfriend who lived in Thorpe Bay (crap place with no pubs!) but have good memories of training it into Saaarfend and going to pubs like The Dickens. The one time I went to Roots Hall I was staying with her, must have been your 2-1 win on a Friday night in March 1989.

Arnott's goal was probably worth more than that to us so I'll forgive them!

Not only was it a brilliant individual goal, it turned out to be an absolutely vital goal that gave us 3 points instead of one. Three games remaining, two of which we lost. And we ended up promoted purely because we scored more goals than Hull.

If a season ever hangs on one passage of play, the Kevin Arnott goal at Roots Hall was that one passage of play.

Aye & on a pitch akin to corrugated iron & a ball that bounced like it needed twatting with a seven iron

So it's Monday, and the moment of wallowing in victory has now past............................ Nothing to do with you guys but I'll share anyway. Sometimes life really does suck and the winding up order on Wednesday yet to come. This from our local rag.

Sorry to hear that. Mind, you'll get some likes on here for 'the winding up order on Wednesday'! Do you know something we don't?

Yes, that Southend are going to get a winding up order on Wednesday.

We've already got it, it's high Court hearing day Wednesday.
Good luck. Although a part of me thinks your owner is holding the club back and in the long term administration might not be a bad thing.

Shame.

But I do like the comparison between RugRon and Skeletor

That's the pub im talking about in my post above!! The Dickens. That's the baby.

Believe it or not, I've always enjoyed my time on here with you guys, and at the moment coming on here is actually quite therapeutic as I mod on our site and some of ours are total fuckwits presently (and you don't have swear filter like us so I can post 'fuckwit' without it becoming a row of asterisks!;))
You should go on the Wendy site, where the swear filter converts profanity to words like 'Fizz' and 'Wee wee pipe'.

Whatever happens, I hope you come out better for it. 👍
This is of no real interest to you chaps, but fuck it, I know you deep down you really want to know! This little nugget of news has just hit the streets.

All we need now if for the season to be null and void and we stay in FL1, then I will be mayor of happy town.

Because I'm feeling totally miserable today I'd just like to say that after 115 years of league football it's looking nailed on for us to drop into the National League at the end of this season. I know that you guys are looking in a precarious position in the Prem, but it seems like only yesterday that we were trading insults and football in FL1. Sad, sad times. I really hope you guys survive as I do have a soft spot for you Northern monkeys, and one high note, we'll have a spanking brand new three sided stadium that we will never own to play national league football in.

Have a good Easter break chaps.

Good luck Rootshall. You need to get back up so I have an excuse to visit that amazing pier of yours! Although as we may end up in freefall that many not be necessary!!

Just an idea why don't you try scoring a goal or are you changing your name too Southend Nil.
You are not exactly Goals Galore friendly are you.
Only joking at least you still have a chance of staying up, Colchester seem equally keen to change their name to nil.
Do you still have to play them ? If so i might watch it should be a real goal fest.

Our forwards can't hit a cows arse with a banjo! To be fair, we didn't come out of embargo until January and a CF was top of our list, but when you have a reputation for not paying players and agents hate you it's an inevitable outcome that anyone any good wouldn't touch us with a barge pole.

Yes, we still have to play the sheep botherers, and it could go to that game, we shall see.

Colchester - sheep botherers, I love the local rivalry. I used to sometimes work in Peterborough and remember talking to a posh fan about the weekends fixture. We're playing the scum on Saturday says posh fan. Who's that? - Cambridge. I found it hilarious.

Hope you boys make it back up by which time you could be playing Wednesday in LG.2 with any luck.....I’d gladly show you round a few s2 pubs before you set foot over in s6 / south Barnsley.

Don't write yourselves off just yet. But if you do slip down and out you'll find some familiar opponents in the National.

Good luck.
