Aren't you doing well

I did at one time swap a few private messages with pinchy. I was aware that his father was very ill and pinchy was going the the Hallamshire - 10th floor quite regular at that period. I very much doubt pinchys forum character would allow himself to leave the forum - probably as thick skinned as anyone.

Perhaps it's family related.

Some of us do leave - then .......................return. :)

Interesting that you say 'Pinchy's Forum character'. Someone else told me that he put on an antagonistic persona for the forum, but is nothing like that in real life.

I just find it incredible that anyone would have the energy to keep that up!

If you wanna read real fuckwits try Owlstalk. Then you'll understand why we are in awe of them.😂
We have a similar relationship with our six fingered cousins from North Essex, Colchester Utd. We actually have two of them who are regular posters on our board, and for folk with a morbid love of sheep they're not too bad.

That match at the Lane (was it Chris Wilder's 3rd game?) was to me the watershed game.

A lot of talk about the following fixture down at Millwall and the beers on the bus but a 3-0 thrashing by Southend will always stick with me as the point where things could only get better.

I appreciate you posting on here. There are a number of us who need to remain grounded and without spending too much time looking at the past a reality check every so often is not a bad thing.

That was the game where we watched Nile Ranger show us why Tango and Uncle Ron had taken a chance with him. Sadly, even after he came out of nick and the club still stood by him he proceeded to continue being a bad boy. A great shame but there ya go.

I had a good day out as a kid at Roots Hall, my dad knew the chairman of Southend at the time (John Adams) so we got what at the time was a slap up 3 course meal and seats in the executive box, I went and listened to the Blades team talk and had pictures with a lot of the players. Paul Rogers won MoM for us and we won 3-1, it was mid-90’s.

). How many local fans do you see arahnd Sarfend with their Arsenal, Man U, Chelsea scarves on? Don't you want to kick them in the nuts?

The jury is out on the Bury scenario. Chairman Ron has so much invested in the club's future financially that you would like to think that we will be safe but we have regular rematches with HMRC (we're unbeaten at the moment) and twice recently the players have not been paid. So Christ knows what's next.

Sol - Fair to say he is marmite to some. He has improved fitness and organisation 100%, but we have offloaded the senior freeloaders in the squad so now he only has mostly the U23s to play with. That said, some of those are hidden gems we are finding. He is a bit odd as an individual but maybe next season (if we have one) is the time to judge him for me.
What are your thoughts on Hutchinson? I know of him and he came on trial here once?

Sometimes you've got to get relegated, and to such a low point, to realise your potential! I couldn't see us doing so well if we hadn't gone down.....all the best on the way up 👍🏻

Well, it was different/unique to most in it's delivery - not that it's wrong - we all benefit in some way from how we converse.

People are what they are.

Good to hear he has another side :)

He has the potential to be a good attacking number 10, he runs well with the ball, has close control and can dribble when surrounded by defenders and can hit a fair free kick. But he does tend to shut his eyes when competeing in the air and hasn't a clue how to defend or tackle when needed. So a bit of acurate's egg really. Given a run in a successful side he may make the grade but unfortunately he ain't Sol's favourite young man so whilst Sol runs the team I don't see him having a future with us. Shame.

Thanks and good luck for the rest of the season

I would think a few of us are like that, I know I am.

I hope Pinchy is ok and he will return some day.

Good to see that he kept up his record of never knowingly being right up to the very end.
This are a few of his final posts...

I have, repeatedly, and stated it clearly. We’re an upwardly mobile Premier League team. He’s a superb goal scorer at levels below that. We’re moving on. Sorry, Silly Billies.

It’s an entirely accurate appraisal of where we are now isn’t it? I know Billy is more important than our club to some. I take a different view. I’m Blade, not Bladey.

His career record doesn’t lie. It tells the story. A fantastic goal scorer at a level just below the top league. As I say, nothing to be ashamed of, far from it. He should go with our love and thanks to finish his career notching more goals, not sitting on our bench. Is that controversial?

There’s a difference. My opinion is not coloured by sentimentality. I don’t take into account his native city or which team he supports. I don’t add a premium for Bladeyness.

It was up to him to ensure he got the chance. Jamie Vardy did. So did Ian Rush. So did countless others. It’s not as though Premier managers didn’t know he was scoring loads in the lower leagues. There are reasons he wasn’t ‘given a chance’. He wasn’t and isn’t good enough. He’s another Keith Edwards. That’s football. I’ve seen it all before. Reality is just that. It doesn’t vary depending on how much you admire Billy Sharp.

So you northern chappies must have bought me good luck with your interest in the lower reaches of FL1. Not only did we take Bristol Rovers apart, but we did it with style and determination. If football is closed down tomorrow I can rest happy that I have watched my team win again and score more that one in a game. It doesn't get much better than that this season. Oh, and you beat Norwich as well so were all happy tonight. Night night.

I'd offer you 'our' stadium mate but I don't dislike you!
That is a very kind offer. I was in 'your' stadium for the penultimate night of the 2012 Olympics and so high up that I could have done with an Oxygen mask and a big pair of binoculars. Whilst we are happy to provide you with pre season friendlies, anything more permanent just wouldn't work would it.

Used to love staying over at Southend after we played them (done the ground 5 times).
In the’95 & ‘96 season we stayed at the same B&B .The landlord wore the loppiest apron I’ve ever seen yet we still went back .
Wouldn’t have a clue where it was now but had great times .

Rootshallbloke we used to have a project manager at work at a University in London called Malcolm who supported Southend.
He seemed oreyt but he was a bit of a shifty cunt. He'll be old now. Anyway, if you see him, tell him Keef said fuck off. Cheers 👍

I like Southend Away. Ground not too far from the train station, a few pubs dotted around and some down to earth support.

Got a bit hairy in the boozer opposite Southend central train station, forget the name but was rammed with West Ham fans and apparently they don't like GCB being sang on their territory. I was politely asked to leave by the landlord woman who looked like she could give me a good hiding. Good day that.

Evening Mr Shrimper and welcome back. I enjoyed your exchanges and you did a good job on us thinking we were signing the new Eusebio with that Lenny Ryan bloke. I admire your turmeric.

I don’t know why you say Sol is like marmite to your fans. But then again, marmite, I can take it or leave it. 🤔

I have never been to Roots Hall. Shame on me! I have driven past it about 40 years ago. But that doesn’t count. I have been to Southend and even Shoeburyness. Which was... an education!

I used to live near Colchester. Tolleshunt Darcy to be precise. I had a girlfriend at Butlin’s in Clacton. She lived at St Osyth.

I thought I knew all about that part of the world but you’ve educated me again this evening. I never realised that Colchester folk had a love of morbid sheep. You definitely don’t have that here in Yorkshire! We like them alive as they are more of a challenge.

Tbh, I wouldn't feel safe in Sarfend boozers!

Don't get too dewy eyed, the fuckers had £90,000 off us for Richard Cadette, which was a lot of money in those days.

Arnott's goal was probably worth more than that to us so I'll forgive them!

Not only was it a brilliant individual goal, it turned out to be an absolutely vital goal that gave us 3 points instead of one. Three games remaining, two of which we lost. And we ended up promoted purely because we scored more goals than Hull.

If a season ever hangs on one passage of play, the Kevin Arnott goal at Roots Hall was that one passage of play.

Feel for you HIP, you'r probably one of the old guard missing Upton Park, classic ground with a great, intimidating atmosphere. I would be gutted if we ever left our hallowed ground. I suppose the increase in crowd size justifies the move, it's all about chasing the dollar to try and compete but, I hate to see these old, famous grounds disappear.
