DW “There is very little, if anything, that we can criticise the lads for. But that won’t stop us searching for areas where we can improve because clearly we have not had a good start and that needs to change.
I genuinely think we are talking about small details rather than anything big"

I'm not starting another Weir-bashing thread as there are plenty of those around.
Let's assume that he's right and only small tweaks are required rather than big changes.
What suggestions do we have on ways we can improve, keep it tight at the back, create more chances, score more goals and win matches?

1) "If in doubt, kick it out". Too many times this season, we've given away stupid goals by players losing possession in dangerous areas (e.g. Hill v Preston). This doesn't mean "hoof it long" at every opportunity or as part of an attacking strategy. It means don't take unnecessary risks.

2) "It's ok to break quickly sometimes". The goalkeeper doesn't always have to roll it out to the centre backs. Sometimes it's preferable to turn the opposition defence with an accurate long throw out or a quick clearance. How many times have we done that this so far this season?

3) "Leave a man or two up when defending corners". I know this is a major bugbear for many of us and it ties in with number two to a certain extent. By defending corners with 11 men we are only inviting the opposition to throw more men into our box and negating any possibility of a quick counter attack.

Any more constructive suggestions and small tweaks?

I think the "everyone back for corners" situation should be a key question for the selection interviews for every prospective Sheffield United manager / coach.
Anyone who believes this to be the standard set-up for defending a corner should be immediately excluded from the process.
