I was about to post about England, but then I saw this.
First half england were dreadful, whatever that formation was it was appalling. Phil Jones proved he's not am midfielder, Rooney too and it seemed to knock the confidence of a very confused Delph. There was no width with both fullbacks having to sit so deep to cover the defensive duties. Jags looked a superstar.
Second half much better, Walker and Gibbs got forward, Barkley and Carrick added shape, but it Didn't look that balanced up front.
Jags throughout the game was all over the place and was praised by the commentators. However, this was because he was making the Terry style 'last ditch' tackles, not organised defending, but relied on his pace and athleticism to throw his body or limbs in the way of the ball.
The passing was neat and tidy when played short but for the first time in a long time I was shouting at the TV with some of the balls being played. Longer passes overs 20-40 yards were going forward, but when they played out to the right in particular they were often going in behind players like Walker, so he couldn't take the ball at pace. There was space in front of him, why not play it that yard or two ahead so he could hit the fullback at pace.
Italy are a technical and tactical side, they get very organised but as the game stretched they could break at pace. They put men behind the ball, let england have possession and didn't waste energy lunging into tackles as they were organised.
Final point on Rooney. He's scored a lot of goals for England, no doubt there, but he really does seem to bottle it at times. Chances against Buffon and he fluffed them.
Andros Townsend bailed England out really with a great goal....
