Unfortunately the game also requires defending as well, and in that department ,we’ve shown ourselves to be even worse than we are at sticking the ball in the back of the net.
In short, apart from Stoke in 16 games we’ve not beaten anyone above 20th in the league.
If we could play Peterborough every week, you might have a point.

That says we 4th, when we are actually 8th in the goals scored table, so not that different, and in line with our poor finishing.

I'd say our issue is how cheaply we give goals up, rather than the other end

Being high in the xg table and low in the real table tends to show one or both of these things:

- we don’t score as many goals as we should given the chances we create: we are bad at finishing.

- we concede more goals than we should. We are bad at defending.

Anyone who has seen this team all season knows both of these things are true.

Tentative conclusion- the players are underperforming. Again, obvious to anyone who’s seen the team.

I don’t think we are, I feel we’re about 6/8 points light on performances to actual results. Some of the results this season have been hard to swallow

We're one really good DM and 1 or 2 wide players shot of a play-off team.

We concede goals because we drop deep as the midfield doesn't have the legs and offer no protection to the CBs. If you had a good DM in there the CBs and keeper would suddenly become better players. We're currently playing people out of position in attack. We don't have a wide player with pace, close skill and who will get round the back.

Bring in 3 players in January, and we could easily be in the play-offs. We won't though, so.....

Really interesting that we're 4th highing xg for, and 4th lowest xg against. Hopefully there's some truth in it as it would suggest that things may balance out eventually. Here's to hoping.
