Are we financially worse than Hull City & Portsmouth?

Portsmouth hope to wrap up a loan deal for Tottenham right-back Kyle Naughton, 21, this week, while Spurs boss Harry Redknapp could also loan out fellow defender Kyle Walker, 20, to Hull City.

It seems so. Surely we'd get either, over those two.

or not as it seems.

Good question, but its not as simple as that.

We have no ultimate right over players that we've sold.

'Arry as mates at Pompey and will be able to get good reports back from them on Naughton.

As for 'ull there could again be a number of reasons why he'd want Walker there.

As both Pompey and Hull are struggling on the pitch at the moment both players will be up against it at the back so the Kyles will see more of the ball.... possibly

There could also be the fact that we now have two decent fullbacks in Jordan and Calve and we have other positions as priority.

Either that or we're completely skint :)

Not to worry injuries will hit then the club will be forced to use the loan market.I don't know who we could sit out to give those two a game.

Or maybe we just don't need them.

Which we don't.

Exactly. Totally agree.

I beg to differ. Id rather have Naughton, as backup than, Taylor.

Expensive back up that fella

United and most other Championship clubs dont have the sort of money to keep expensive full backs on the bench. Besides, why would Spurs loan either of them to us if they were going to be backup?

I think every blades fan would! But why would we pay good wages to a great player to sit on the bench?? I'd rather us use the money and get a striker and/or another winger

You'd rather spend thousands of pounds that

a) could be spent elsewhere
and
b) that we don't need to risk

on a player that may only get a few minutes here and there.

The only argument for bringing back either player would be that they may be able to do a job on the right wing. But there's no point in getting a square peg for a round hole, when we have a couple of round pegs already at the club.

Can't agree with that. Our cover at full back is Kozzy and Taylor. Doesn't that scare you just a teeny bit?

It does, but no way should we bring back Naughton or Walker as backup! That said, our backup at right back is Lowton, not Koz.

maybe, but would harry really want to sent naughton out on loan to a club where his intention is backup? i think not, as first team football would be a priority!

Our cover at full back is Lowton and Taylor. I would imagine Kozzy will be lucky to make the bench more than half a dozen times for the rest of the season.

Like I said.....clubs on our sort of budget cant afford Premier League players on loan for back-up. Its just unrealistic IMO.

i don't think it has anything to do with back up, first choice etc. Something wasn't right with the walker loan last season or we would have got naughton back. I think our relationship with Tottenham isn't the best now so can't see us getting a player off them anytime soon.

Anyone with half a noggin would rather have Walker and Naughton at full-back with Calve and Jordan as back-up.
Shouldn't be a problem either with our special relationship with Spurs to call upon.

Anyone with half a noggin would realise that Calve and Jordan are (at the very least) good players at this level and therefore not players that need replacing.

Guess what, I'd rather have Joe Hart in the net than Steve Simonsen, but that doesn't mean I think it would be a wise signing to make.

I'd be interested on how many games you've seen Calve and Jordan play live to make such a judgement?

Please reply with the number!

Ps...what is half a noggin??

dont portsmouth and hull have £40m in parachute payments due to them ? i think that would make them better off financially than us and makes the op,s original question seem a bit stupid

Paying them both 20K per week? Seems silly to waste about a fifth of your total wage bill on two subs.

The original question needs redefining.
Can Hull and Portsmouth offer more wages than us? To which the answer is yes.
Are we in a better financial position? Yes.

Reasons not to pursue Kyle I and II any further:-

1. Any pending financial support for Speed is going into bolstering our attacking options. He's made it clear that is the priority.

2. Calve and Jordan are good players and do not need replacing.

3. We have cover in Lowton and Taylor. Young players who need opportunities or they will never improve.

4. We have chased Naughton and Walker every day since they left by all accounts. If Spurs wouldn't loan them to us then, why would they now?!

5. You should never go back..........so they say.

6. What Bob said :)

And I didn't say they did need replacing though I'm impressed by your decision that they are very good players at this level already.
Calve has started fine but can't even last a full game and Jordan looks steady.
I appreciate it's relative to Tayls and Nozza or Ertl but I'd wait a while if I were you.

I'd hazard a guess that the football world has seen enough of them both to recognise that their only realistic move in the summer of 2010 was to a rapidly down-sizing Sheffield United.
Rocket science it is not.
I'm hopeful they'll turn out to be decent players and they've started fine.
But neither are in the same class as Naughton or Walker, who we both saw plenty of.

I'm sorry I thought you were judging the new players on your views.

I was wrong!

:)

This "football world" you talk of is interesting too.

Monty for example......how so many mangers pick him and the comments of Speed and Morgs this week.

Perhaps the "football world" is wrong and right?

Please tell us how this "football world" works?

:)

Sorry mate you just come across as dense in that above post.

Why on earth would Spurs loan us Kyle(s) to come as back up and warm our bench?

Wait, where did I say "very good". I said "good", with the "at least" caveat included as we haven't seen them for an extended stretch thus far. And I would certainly say they are "good players at this level" on the evidence we've got thus far. In fact, Stephen Jordan has proven this throughout his career - Burnley supporters are actually gutted they got rid of him and kept Danny Fox.

I don't know why, but it still gives me pause for thought when a poster with undoubted intelligence who makes regular good points still comes out with utter reactionary bilge like you do from time to time Len. It's like you forget yourself and feel the need to act up to the stereotype that you've created. Disappointing to say the least.

Yeah, so reactionary to say Naughton and Walker are better players than any full back we currently have.
Jeez.
