Are we financially worse than Hull City & Portsmouth?

Funnily enough Steelo, I am pretty sure that Redknapp or his men will have seen the damage Blackwell can do to footballers and thought 'get him back, never again.'

I can't believe I've been incited into defending Blackwell, but he's a very good coach and just a shit manager.

He brought on just about every successful young player in recent memory at SUFC in one way or another.

Call me an old cynic darling, but could this be why Mr Warnock was singing Mr Rednapp's praises for next England manager in the press over the weekend?

So how many fans are you talking about Len? 1? 2?

Len, you've used your "I think it so it must be true" logic for too long now to fool us.

Like Bob says, playtime is over so time to go.

OK, the 5,000 season ticket holders who've walked, plus the other thousand or more walk-ups, were not affected by the sale of key players, not knowing who was playing from one week to the next, and are all getting a free nosh-up down at the Cathedral every day because they're all now living on the streets.

Dunno Len how are average gates atother Championship clubs. Moreover how are ticket sales at clubs in city's with large public sector workforces? Maybe dueing the worst economic downturn since the 1930s a few people have knocked going to the match on the head instead of say paying their mortgage??

Given we've only sold 2,000 more season tickets than at S6 and our crowds are now on a par with them after they've been relegated, I think we need to look closer to home.
Unless we have thousands more public sector employees in our fan base...

Not really Len. Our average is down 15% and theirs is down 11% this year. Using a sample of just two games for us I am not sure this really lends much weight to your argument. Crowds are down sue to the recession. Why have Man Utd not managed to sell out of season tickets this year, why will Chelsea not sell out for the majority of the Champions League games this year?

I'm sure the recession has not helped matters, that is obvious, but you cannot sensibly claim that the utter shite we are fed by McCabe every time he opens his gob, and the utter shite we endured on the pitch under Blackwell has had little or no impact.

Some truth in this, no doubt. Also some truth in the recessions / costs argument. The biggest factor though, I'm convinced, is simply that our attendances are falling back from historic highs, rather than reflecting longer term demise.

The pigs can always turn out in force, now and then. Witness their 35k last day crowds for the various relegation deciders they've had over the last few seasons. Was it really surprising that they would get 20k in the ground for the game three days after getting saved again from the grim reaper, to see HMS Pisstheleague steamroller another non-entity of a team (although it didn't go to plan, obviously)..?

Lets see how many are turning up when they are 12th and not scoring...

As you say, a maximum of 3 games hardly gives a reliable yardstick but of the top few from last season Derby are 4K down, Leicester 2.5K, Ipswich 1K, Forest 0.5K, Boro 1.5K, Reading 0.5K, only Cardiff are up on last season but that will have a lot to do with the new ground and a certain welshman joining them.

So we're down more than any other club?

No about the same given the small sample size - falls of 10-14% seem to be the norm. Given the small sample size a fall or rise at the next game will change the average significantly. Use your noggin son it aint rocket science.

We're outside that range already with Scunthorpe at home to come, despite giving thousands of tickets away at the first match.

There are a number of freebies knocking about for tonight. A lass I know who works for the NHS said her department's got more than they can use.

But still, I can't wait for tonight. Real football is back. :)
