Approach made to McCall

In the context of the role, he's still young. In the real world, 39 is certainly not young.
 Eff off, young fella me lad!!:p I remember standing on the Kop in the 4th division thinking how old the players were, and 18 was positively ANCIENT! It'll catch up with you.

Considering he only finished playing 5 or 6 years ago, and played at a decent level for most of his career, I'd say 49 is reasonably young for a manager. Ferguson was 45 when he took over at Manchester Utd, coming from a team in the scottish pub league. granted, he started at 32. In 25 years we too could be celebrating an epic manager.

Or maybe not.

people age differently.
some 40 year olds are rock stars, some 40 year olds are sat around in their slippers watching heartbeat.
mccall strikes me as a very young 48. mentally and (ooh err mrs) physically.

McCabe personally called McCall when he fired Wilson and offered him the job. If we can afford the compensation then he'll be the new manager. Right or wrong it will once again be McCabe's decision and his alone. We will never know if there were better candidates because what McCabe wants he gets....

I heard the same. It was a third hand rumour so I wasn't sure how reliable, but I was told just after our play off exit that McCall had been offered the job so I stuck a bet on. Fingers crossed.

In other news, in the real world, 39 is not young and 49 definitely isn't.

Some 44 years olds are sex gods.

how is 39 not young? its not old, so it must be young? you either say people are young or old.

who says oh hes a bit middle?

Surely this is just a case of needing permission to interview him, not straight out offer him the job.

At least that's what I hope it is.

Usually permission is asked for when the deal is almost done in principle otherwise you wouldn't unsettle. Interest point someone said to me is that McCall left Scotland on holiday to Spain on Sunday and won't be back until Thursday. Bit of a short holiday don't you think?

I wonder which holiday home Kevin is at (hope Danny isn't home, next door) and what airport they are both going to fly back into on Thursday for the press conference on Friday

I am in Edinburgh this week, its on the back page of the Scottish Sun..

Sorry mate, only two people know if that's true. You are not one of them.

Of course it will be McCabe's decision. When I own a car, I decide who drives it. Don't you?

I think, in typical Blades' fashion, we underestimate our own club. Crowds of close to 20,000 are almost unheard of in Division 3 and we've shown we can fill the place every week in the Prem. A move from either Motherwell or MK to us, is undoubtedly a significant number of steps forward.

I'm still hoping for Robinson myself, but McCall would certainly be preferable to the alternative bunch of non-achievers that purport to be candidates.

Agree 100%

Before I get too excited about McCall I have to admit I've never seen one of his teams play. Anyone care to fill me in on his style of play?

Wonder if Nicky Law will hang on in signing for someone until McCall possibly has the chance to bring him here (should he take over).

I know he's not a Blade and will have better offers in the league above, but it wouldn't surprise me to see that the lure of unfinished business and a manager who he clearly works well with (and a player he's played alongside) is very attractive.

A fine figure of a man...

We need to get our skates on if we want Law. Rangers and Brum are very keen by all accounts.

Apparently Stuart McCall has cut short his holiday to hold a meeting with SUFC that is going to take place in next 24 hours. See what happens but sounds promising.

We know his release clause and likely demands, McCall knows what's what at the club and the situation we find ourselves in; I think it may be an idea to lump on his appointment.

If it's anyone other than him or Robinson... or at a push Southgate, I'll be as disappointed with the club as I have been in a long time. And I've been very disappointed in very recent memory.
