His next appearance on Question Time is long overdue.

What did he say ?
"I said to the lads during the week, 'the team's almost like musical chairs."

"Someone gets in and does well but then gets suspended or injured."

"Someone gets in for a game, does well but then has a Holocaust, a nightmare, an absolute disaster."

Wrong place for this, it isn't Blades-related.

And if you are going to post about this, at least post what he actually said. He didn't compare the poor performance to "The Holocaust" ie the slaughter of Jews and other minorities during WW2. He said it was "a holocaust, a nightmare, an absolute disaster...."

noun: holocaust; plural noun: holocausts
  1. 1.
destruction or slaughter on a mass scale, especially caused by fire or nuclear war.

    • the mass murder of Jewish people under the German Nazi regime during the period 1941–5. More than 6 million European Jews, as well as members of other persecuted groups such as Romani and gay people, were murdered at concentration camps such as Auschwitz.
      noun: the Holocaust

Irrespective of this comment being taken out of context, Barton is an utter cunt who should be behind bars.

The Stendel case is dragging on and he's since been accused of assaulting a woman.

Can't think of many professional managers in the UK who have knocked their opposite numbers teeth out in the tunnel.

besides the cancel culture stuff, it is a moronic and non sensical use of a clearly sensitive word and Barton clearly needs educating. Im sure when you’re on TV theres a list of words in everyones minds not to use and holocaust is one of them

Guys just a full on prick. Posts a few philosophy quotes and people think he's some misunderstood character.

If you've ever stubbed a cigar out in someone's eye then you are a cunt forever no matter what. Horrible bully

Seems like another case of some people (Bristol councillors and/or steering group bods) wanting to be seen to be appalled or offended by something that is neither appalling nor offensive.
Barton's not the most pleasant person but this is ridiculous.

Rovers are my second team as I moved down from Sheffield to Bristol when I was 8.

Since joining Rovers he already has one court case hanging over him, now he has two and he says this.
He also has been crap at managing a team and we are languishing down the bottom of league 2. Why on earth is he in charge?

I feel for Coutts and Leon Clarke who are there are after decent blades careers and look terrible.

The bloke's rap sheet looks like this.

I don't subscribe to the whole "cancel culture" thing when someone does or says something that offends someone and for them to be dismissed out of hand but he seems to have got away with all sorts over the years and continues to. To use the word holocaust in the first place, you've surely got to have had an understanding of what it means and what it refers to and I sure as hell can't remember any references to Bristol Rovers when I went round Auschwitz.

Pure manufactured outrage.

We all know the word is broader than the WWII event, hence there being films, games, and TV shows about "nuclear holocausts" and such. Yes, it's a word that needs some sensitivity given the very real events in history we've called holocausts but nobody really cares about this. The media see the story and potential controversy there and manufacture the outrage so they can feed off people arguing about. They'll sensationalise it, they'll find people on both sides to pit against each other, and people will bite even though if you'd asked them two days ago whether they gave a single shit what Joey fucking Barton had to say they'd have all said "No, the guy's an idiot".

It’s in very bad taste.

He won’t be “cancelled” for 2 reasons:

1) of all the terrible things he’s done this ranks somewhere in the middle

2) “cancel culture” is largely made up.
Not that I ever cared about it but at first it seemed like "cancel culture" was about people getting taken off speaking events or shows, but now it seems like being "cancelled" means that Twitter is mad at you for two days until the next meme comes along.

I'm not defending his comments by any means, but why does the BBC article add his comments at the end as an afterthought? Most of the article is spent telling you how bad his comments are, without actually telling you what they are.

If they just played the clip nobody would care and that would ruin a good story. Also, now that the manufactured outrage is loose, everywhere can hide behind the excuse of "We don't want to repeat such insensitive remarks" as a way to not take any kind of critical position it.
