Derek Geary.

You was right, i was wrong. Spent most of the first half watching him, and i thought he was excellent and the player we all know and love.

Can everyone please move on. There is nothing to see here.

Played well but I thought that while the ball was in other areas of the pitch he was hoblling a bit.

I hope his knees can last out. If he has to pack up can he have a testimonial?

Not sure he either deserves one or needs one. Yes I have enjoyed watching him, have liked the fact that he seems to give his all, and love the fact that apparently within weeks of signing for us was adding UTB FTP after autographs. BUT in terms of service with all the injury problems surely we have already invested a lot in him without getting much (whilst he was out) back. And secondly I am of the opinion these days that players from the top two leagues who have played the 10+ years will really not need any testimonial.

Were you in the Wizard Of Oz? Tin man I believe.

He hasn't earned a lot from the game, certainly not enough to retire on.He is by no means a high earner. We have invested relatively little in him compared to the commitment he shows to the club. If he has to pack it in, I would certainly support a testimonial for him. He's a top man who has had awful luck.

Now I have no real idea how much he is on a week, but i would suprised if it is not £5k a week minimum. This means that by the end of this season we will have invested just over £1.5 million in a player who will have played around 100 games for the club.

However I have no qualms with him and do think he gives 100%, just think that when you look at the numbers it all gets a bit obscene, and personally wouldn't pay to go to a testimonial for many, perhaps the only exception would have been if one of the Kyles had received a career ending injury this year if they were still with us.

Ok, looking at your whereabouts you possibly know the man quite well. If he is on a lot less than that then I'm suprised, especially as his last contract extension was during the Robson era (I think anyway - taking him up to the end of this year)

There are a lot of misconceptions about what players earn. We do have some very high earners, we also have a lot of players who earn surprisingly little.

Really interested, but not surprised, that Mido has signed for West Ham on a basic of £1,000 a week, although obviously it is quite a bit more if he plays & scores. Really, the financial state that football is in is going to change things dramatically. At the moment we have a situation where players are enjoying contracts that were signed when clubs could still borrow from banks and live way beyond their means. They can't any more, and contract negotiations from now on, for all but the very elite PL clubs, are going to see a lot of reality hitting home, and players & agents will be screaming, but won't be able to do much about it, because the money simply isn't there.

We are in for a very interesting couple of years.

think he might be able to get a job if he has to pack it in .testimonials should be a thing of the past.

Aye... I thought that too yesterday. He looked in a bit of pain at times.

By the way, for those having trouble using the quote system, see HERE :)

??? Cloud cuckoo land, mate.

Yeah so i have already been told. Just seemed right from something I was told a fair while ago before he signed the extension under Robson. I stand corrected but still don't think the testimonial system has much place in modern day football. Now if it was a game that raised funds for a charity and a chance to say 'thanks' then I would have no problem with that. Like Two foot said he can always get a job when he finishes, maybe with all the financial problems we will see a return to the days of players not simply retiring and 'putting their feet up'.

As I have said it is nothing against Geary

The loanees could well be on serious money. How much of that money we actually pay might vary, but half of a shitload is still a lot. (mathematically speaking)
