If they shit on Adkins I'm done with them. Why appoint a manager with a proven track record then not give him the tools to do the job?
They've given him a bottle of turps to poke a fire. Completely useless.
doesn't mean he isn't partly to blame for only one win in six games thou does it?
He has spent money and had time to get players in. It us he who has put the ueless Wallace at left back and ensure we play with pace in the side. He also still plays a midfield two who can't tackle or track players.
Adkins is far from blameless and his performance should also be reviewed along with the players

Am still looking forward to Saturday and remain positive. 35 games left is plenty of time as we are in 7th place and only 5 points behind automatic places

Been there, done it, got the t-shirt. There's a seasoned BUVP poster if ever I saw them. ;)

Here's hoping the board are trying to bring in quality rather than quantity and that's the reason for delay. Signing a high volume of average and / or injury prone players hasn't really done a great deal to push us on from being a playoff side in the last few seasons.

There are some players we cannot get rid of as they are on good wages!

It says a lot about this division that despite how poor we are, we are still 7th. It really is the season to get promoted.

If we have players on good wages, someone needs to get them playing

Either inspire them, or find a system that suits em, thats Mr Managers job

You said "This is the season we need to get promotion". I fully agree with this but I hope you realise that there are 35 games to go.
Not sure I follow, but perhaps my OP was unclear?

11 games in, and with only one win in 7, we're amazingly still there or there about. There's nobody who looks capable of commanding it - and this is the first year that's been the case in a while, and probably for a while - so yes - it's the season to do it.

Of course, there's a long way to go and I don't think we're good enough, certainly without some decent additions.

Who is saying that we wont have decent additions in the next 5 months, who is saying that the teams above us wont lose their best players?

I think we're barking up diffrent trees fella. I don't think we're very good right now, yet we're still in it. I think the league is poor. So I think it's a good year to get promoted. It's actualy a positive spin on a negative situation, yet you seem to be reading it (my post) negatively.

Get 5 in midfield with Done and Adams wide.

NO MORE 4-4-2!!!!

Not sure if you're serious or not?

I agree though. Loads have demanded 4-4-2 on this forum. It just isn't effective in the modern game. I like Sammon, I really do. But we need to be playing Sharp up top with 2 attack minded wingers.

Howard
Freeman Edgar Collins Wallace
Coutts Basham
Adams Baxter Done
Sharp

Sharp has always struggled in a formation that doesn't play two up top.

Early days yet but looking at the tables five teams are starting to break away from the rest and we aren't one of them. Burton, Walsall, Bury, Gillingham and Coventry who would have thought it eh two teams straight out of league two, two teams who are fixtures in league one and Coventry the only club with the potential to match our resources. I would expect at least three out of that little lot to fall by the wayside but Wigan should have the cash to build a side to compete if they ever get started. If we can't bring in a few players and smash this division this season then there is no hope for us, time for somebody at the lane get their shit together and kick some arses

Pretty sure he played as a lone striker in his first spell at Donny where he did pretty well. It would mean we would have to play on the floor a lot. I think it's an option to use at certain times though but there will be other times where 442 is more effective with Sammon in there. Bash needs a better, fitter, more disciplined partner to play 442 regularly though which is why there's such a clamour for Hammond to sign.

I don't imagine anyone can seriously defend what's happened so far this season. The players, the board and to a lesser extent the manager have all combined beautifully to create the worst Sheffield United side I have seen in my 30 years of supporting them. The most horrible thing is that whether clapper or slasher we all care deeply about this club. Clearly much more deeply than anyone on the pitch or at board level. It's those people who should be berated, not fans either side of the clapper/slasher divide

Good stuff, Roy. However I'd argue that Clough's lot last season drained the life out of me. It's still early, the weather's fine and people have seemingly forgotten about pathetic no-shows against Bury, Gillingham, Colchester and Port Vale (and far-from-convincing wins against Chesterfield, Donnie and Blackpool). Not too bad as we're only 11 games into the season. We're getting 20k crowds but it won't last.

Whether it's the board, the kiss-the-badge players who'll fuck off at the merest sniff of a bigger pay packet or the latest manager (who is obviously more bothered about getting back into employment than to lay down ground rules at the interview stage), the fans are totally exempt from criticism. In fact, fan-for-fan, we're the most unique bunch in football. It's easy to turn up to watch Arsenal, Chelsea, Man. U etc. Even most small/medium-sized clubs have won something in living memory. We haven't, yet we still turn up in great numbers.

Why can't the managers see the obvious? Even the greatest managers such as Wenger or Ferguson - managers who've seen their best players sold from under them - have needed an 'enforcer'. A Keane, Ince or Viera. Even the great Bill Shankly had Tommy Smith. We're as soft as shit. Change it now Adkins, or we'll have the usual bollocks about how 'the fans are impatient'.

Wigan have started Metal, 1pt behind us now, after a bad start.

...and I'd argue that any of our players - Baxter, Higdon, Flynn etc. - would suddenly, miraculously  start to perform if on loan to any of these teams. It begins and ends with the manager.
