I boycotted Mr Tom for a long time and then for some inexplicable reason had one on the morning that we played them away in the 1991-92 season. As anyone will remember, we beat them 3-1 (Bobby Davison), so I was then put in the akwkard position of Mr Tom becoming a superstition.

DESUN was a fruit company, apparently from what I was told.

I remember asking a Chinese friend of mine 20 odd years ago about what the Chinese characters underneath DESUN say, and he said pretty much what it says above in English but it was pronounced "Dayshun" but one of the symbols mean Fruit and they were the Chinese version of Del Monte, which made me laugh.

I worked for one of the big sponsors for a couple of years, it’s not really about brand recognition for consumers these days. We spent over seven figures on various sponsorship programs because a few of our big customers were massive blades, and as part of the sponsorship package I negotiated one of the boxes on John Street to be included.

As it happens we usually had a few seats spare each week, rather than waste the seats, meals and drinks we’d ask our customers if anyone would be interested in going to the games. I’m sure it’s pure coincidence that those customers in particular spent many millions with our company.
