Anyone else excited to see Berge play in that midfield?

I feel as if our fans are so desperate for Berge to be a success that they are willing to overlook how poor when we are when he plays. He’s obviously very talent but doesn’t compliment or fit with the side/players around him. Im certain he’d look great in a side like wolves with the slow build up, but just doesn’t suit us at our best.

In the last 25 games he’s played for us we’ve lost 23 and drawn 2. He’s doesn’t play Saturday and Norwood/fleck/Sharp are completely different animals. Yes there are other mitigating factors, but no way should he walk back into the side.

Part of the improvement in Fleck and to a lesser extent Norwood is they've got to lift their game or lose the shirt, they've both been coasting for whatever reason

You’re right. He didn’t fit with the players or style which is why I’m excited whether these new players and style bring the best out of him!

He would obviously be better off with a Prem. team, preferably one who has games in Europe, makes you wonder if Wolves and Gibbs - White would be interested in a swop ? ........ :tumbleweed:

Meh. You say this, but we haven't seen that iteration of John Fleck for a long, long time. The two new lads come in and his game is transformed. I think it's very fair and reasonable to wonder whether Sander could do the same in a fluid formation with options up ahead.

After the Birmingham game we were all talking about how if we could keep Berge we'd be there or thereabouts, that he's easily one of the best (if not the best) player at this level. Until Saturdays match, Fleck had shown nothing.

There were half a dozen players who did more on Saturday than Berge did v Birmingham.

Berge was the best player on the pitch in two of United's home games this season. He was also abject in two of our away games barring a ten minute spell at Luton. I'm not convinced that he's up to the rigours of Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday yet and question whether he's managing himself through games. It's either that or dummy spitting because he wants out. The former wouldn't be a surprise due to the length of time out and our piss poor pre season.

Berge would be quality in the team IF we continue playing like we did on Saturday.

All Berge needs is intelligent footballers around him to pass and move with, which we all know is SJ's preferred way of playing.

The way the Ndiaye & MGW were showing for the ball (both playing between the lines as JS said in his post match) and even others actually been interested in receiving balls to feet, is all a quality player like Berge wants.

What appears to be 4231 when in possession dropping off to a 442 or 4411 when defending will suit his style. When RND and Baldock step out of defence into midfield, meaning others push up, gives us the type of options we saw all through the game with Peterborough.

Get Berge in that team and we'll be even better.

Good grief ,this bloke is untouchable ,sorry for nicking this Revolution but

when will the penny drop ,yet another round of excuses for him even in this thread. You just know long covid will be the next one in his next uninspiring outing.
I understand where you are coming from and I'm infuriated by the fact that his ineffective performances week in week out all seem to be someone elses fault to some on here. The only thing that keeps me hoping with Berge is the experience of Coutts. In many ways a similar player in that they both have a fabulous first touch and can look impressive on the ball but Coutts spent 2 seasons with no real end product and drifted out of many many games - sound familiar? Suddenly, given a position he could excel in, and players around him making smart runs he was transformed into the centre of all we did and controlled game after game. Here's hoping, but he'd be on the bench tonight for me.

He was much better when he shifted over to the right I don’t want to see him on the left again. I’d say he looked the most awkward player on the pitch when he was over there but then I have seen Robinson try to head a ball so it wouldn’t technically be true.

He was fine on the left, but really good on the right. I don't know what people are missing; he's very, very good. As soon as we get our shit together he will be an integral part.

I like him I really like him but on the left I thought he slowed the game down too much taking 2 or 3 touches to cut back onto his right allowing Preston to reset also he came inside to occupy the same place as another player sometime literally almost being stood on MGW’s toes.that said he also drove well with the ball at times and played some nice balls into the channels. When he shifted onto his more natural right side the negatives disappeared and we only got the good stuff and it was good.

Sander Berge has never been a left midfielder. Therefore, I'm not judging him for a 20 minute cameo there. As a right footer that played at semi pro level as a left winger -he did ok.

I agree that was my point as soon as he switched back onto his natural right side he looked a very good player I’m just not keen on seeing the left side experiment repeated again he was a very odd like for like replacement for freeman.

If I was one of the posters who constantly says Berge is rubbish and we should get rid, I would have a serious think about if football was really my game. To not be able to see the quality he has is embarrassing for so called football fans. Genuinely cant understand it.

He had good looking night on the pitch and I would like to see him in starting 11. I think the reason(s) he didn't start tonight are just temporary anyways.

If we could accommodate him and Fleck in CM with both making driving runs it could be very good.

Norwood played well tonight though so would be hard to drop.

He is deceptively quick going forward. He’s also sluggish at turning when it’s pinged around him.

But quality with the ball, weight of pass is lovely.
Not sure how we get all these players we want in this team….Norwood out for Berge maybe?
Ozzy back in on the wide left?

Also got to say we look very top heavy with strikers when we only play one….I do t see Ndiye as a striker at all, he needs to be dropping and linking play. But Billy has the shirt for now, McB may be a better option if just for his height and defending set pieces, though Brewster looked sharp when he came in too.

We should find a way to play him but give him very little defensive responsibility, because he is a bit weak for his size when defending, but once he's got moving forward he's like a tank made by Rolls Royce, and has fantastic quality with his feet.

Agreed. It was interesting to see him tonight in what I think is his first, attacking role. I was nervous waiting for the board to go up because if he had been a straight swap for Norwood then PNE would've destroyed him. He did seem happier there and took his goal either extremely well or very fortunate.

With his physicality you'd hope he could operate more centrally but I think he's too vulnerable there but perhaps he's more suited to an attacking role?
