Anyone else excited to see Berge play in that midfield?

What? A loan out?

I'm still not bought on what he can bring to the side.

I think we’ve seen glimmers of something. I’m thinking the rampaging elephant hit with a branding iron. We’ll see if these new players can bring it out more.

It's laughable that Berge gets blamed for slowing things down. Every single player has dawdled on the ball and been painfully slow going forward for 18 months.

Berge is the only one that ever made the bursting runs to the opposition box, trying to make things happen. If he had to turn back on himself and knock it backwards, it's the frustrating lack of movement and team mates not showing for the ball that can be blamed, not Berge. We've obviously not seen him at his best but there's been numerous times he's looked a class above.

It sounds a little strange but MGW and ICN could be the ones that finally unlock the full potential of the likes of Berge and Brewster

I agree, Berge doesn’t slow us down. It may be a unpopular opinion but I think he’s been too intelligent a player for the rest of the team, in the sense he’s seeing space and gaps that the players in front aren’. So then what’s been happening is after a first half of looking for movement that’s not there and having to pass sideways, he decides in the second half he’s going to have to do it all himself and starts running forward with the ball. MGW and Ndiaye will be a dream for him, he’ll show us that he isn’t a hype job.

You could replace Berge with about 15 players over the last 18 months for that statement
You can’t, actually. I think only him and Mousset did not play in a winning side last season.

Edit: Mousset did play in a winning team in the Cup, though not in the league.

What’s with all the he’s shit, Billy’s better than such and such, such and such should never wear a red and white shirt again ffs.
get behind the manager and the players!!!
were meant to be all blades aren’t we???.
you sound like a bunch of privileged glory hunting Man Utd or Arsenal fans!!!
Do you think Billy looks at Brewster and says to him your fucking wank mate I wouldn’t want to see you in that shirt again? No he is his team mate and encourages him to be better, not once I bet does he say your wank mate, your too slow, you slow the game, cost this cost that…..
sheeeshhh. I Just hope the players don’t read some of the shit on here…..
it was only last week people were saying SJ was wank and calling for his head…..

After yesterday bench is the best place for him till he mans up and puts a shift in

But not the 14 who won yesterday eh ?
So that’s the new stick to hit him with then? A team thats been record-breakingly dogshit for near enough 2 years but he’s worse because he wasn’t in the squad for the ONE game we’ve won. Incredible.

Irrelevant to the title of the thread.

just one point in many to counter act his million excuses.

We’ve won 8 league games and 5 cup games he didn’t feature in since he was last on the winning side.

True, and I only asked if folks were excited if the new players could potentially unlock Berge’s talent. Yet, as seems to be the case with any Berge thread, it descends into rather irrational angry posts.

Ok, but I’m not sure what you’re getting at? We haven’t lost in 13 out of, what? 50-60 games? Are you saying that, because Berge hasn’t played in those 13 games, the reason we didn’t lose is because he wasn’t playing?

My position, for what it is worth, is we are a better team with more chance to win when Berge is not in the side.

This was true in 2019-20, true last season, and in a very small sample size is true this season.

There are certain players people hate more because their favourite player has lost their places to them. Billy sharp is one that every other player we will ever sign to replace him is always gonna be shit cos Billy isnt playing.
I love Billy and love to watch him but he makes you mad at times with all the offsides, his lovers don’t see that part of his game though, they have their blinkers on cos he’s their favourite player.
All our players have their strengths and weaknesses. I will give the shout out again, just get behind the lads instead of gloating over their mistakes……

Good grief ,this bloke is untouchable ,sorry for nicking this Revolution but

when will the penny drop ,yet another round of excuses for him even in this thread. You just know long covid will be the next one in his next uninspiring outing.
Yep, all those loses definitely all Berge's fault and nothing to do with the stubborn prat in charge that refused to try anything different. Well done, you've cracked it👏. Expect a call from Scotland Yard asking you to help them with all their un-resolved cases 🙄

But yesterday was a completely new look United, one playing in a style we haven't seen since Berge signed with completely new players.

Whatever else you say about Berge, he has shown glimpses of potential and the lad wasn't playing in the Champions League at 21 and attracting a £20m+ fee for no reason.

So the title of the thread poses the question of whether or not this style might suit Berge more and unlock some of that potential. Therefore your point about him playing in losing sides in previous games was largely irrelevant (though not completely).

Fair enough. I’m genuinely not having a go. I just think he’s being held to a standard higher then others and/or taking on more blame. You’re right the stats don’t go in his favour, but you could argue he’s played the majority of games in a position that doesn’t suit his game (RCM) and him not being in the team for 5 months between Dec and Apr didn’t exactly see us stop losing.

There was still structural problems with United's midfield yesterday. Yes we created more overloads, interplay and combinations that were exciting and beyond anything we've seen this season, but there was still problems. When we pressed high we looked good winning the ball in their half and getting straight in on goal. We still, however, had problems when they went long or when they got in our final third - particularly on transition. The midfield were too slow and they got in on our goal far too easily. Our lower block in the first half was also poor. They got through it a lot easier than our higher press. There is question marks whether the balance is right defensively. I think the manager acknowledged that a bit with his starting line up by the way. He was fearful of what might happen out of possession so packed the midfield a bit with runners that could join on transition. Still it's a lot more exciting than watching what we've served up the rest of the season. I'm excited to see the likes of Berge and Brewster play in a football team with other footballers. It's been far too long. I'd still like us to get a Viera type shitehouse with mobility in the January window, and to play him next to Berge. That and get Davies back at centre back in place of Robinson please.

Genuinely, I have no idea what you’re getting at here. I haven’t made any excuses for him. I’ve said he hasn’t lived up to the hype in the OP. I’m asking whether these new players and formation could bring it out of him.

It reminded me of Slavs Fulham side in the 5-4 game. Loads of players running the channels, striker dropping deep midfielders running beyond, quick one twos, playing passes into space, a range of different attacking angles (Right,Left and Central), most players willing to play a one on one battle with the opposition and keeping possession. It gives the opposition lots to think about and it is very hard to contain. Still got Moose, Davies and Berge to get into that.
Agree 100% , great watch that yesterday

I agree. We do lack a get ball, give ball type.

They couldn’t live with the intensity we played at ⚔️

Question for all the ones saying Berge would've had a field day yesterday.

What position/player would you sacrifice from yesterday to make way for Berge?
In a 4-2-3-1 like yesterday it’s norwoods spot he’d be playing in were he to get the nod fleck looked back to something approaching his best in the second half if that continues he keeps his place with hourihane as competition. The right side of the double pivot is either berge or Norwood and whilst Norwood was better yesterday he wasn’t put under pressure which is his weakness.
