I know I am! He hasn’t lived up to his potential thus far, but the lad clearly has talent. Stick him in with MGW next to him and Ndiaye in front and he could take off.

Plenty of discussion about this on various other threads but I'll give my view.. we need players that play with pace, pass and go.

We have two holding midfielders in fleck and Norwood. Fleck has to remain for now but I think Berge slows down play just as much if not more than Norwood alot of the time.

Think he will find it difficult to force his way in just on reputation alone.

Absolutely. Berge runs passed people with such ease. We’ll be having a load of overloads when he’s back and with Ndiaye and MGW now the outlets it’s pretty exciting

I think Berge plays better higher up where it's less of a risk to run past players. Not sure where he fits in yesterday's set up. He is a never a deep lying midfielder.

In fairness - it’s the first time I’ve seen MGW and Ndiaye playing and when Berge isnt expected to be our entire midfield, I’m excited to see if that unlocks him

What excuses?! It’s simply a question as to whether anyone is excited that he might benefit from more attacking flair around him. You can either say no or scroll by, then we can get on with our days.

Agree. Berge's reputation is based on getting on the ball, then passing or advancing past the opposition's first pressure. His youtube videos pre United shows this.

He's usually played RCM at United, with emphasis on combining on the right hand side with the RWB and RCB, doing Lundstram's box to box role, while also being encouraged to run on the ball.

It's a role he's been at best moderately successful in, in a team that's continually struggled.

His runs on the ball has been what's impressed United fans the most, although it's also been a source of frustration, as "he does not do them enough", and there hasn't been goals or assists following them. But again, he has never been a last third player. He needs someone to take over responsibility when we're getting close to goal.



Yesterday, things clicked for us, for the first time in a long time. The addition of two attacking flair players had such an impact, both on our general play and other players' performances, many of whom have been written off a long time ago, for struggling in a struggling and unbalanced side.

Those two made it possible for the manager to play his favoured system. It is also the system that Berge is most used to, and there are good reasons for hoping he can be able to play his natural game with a nice mix of flair, skill and movement in front of him.


But let's not make this a Norwood vs Berge thing where two sets of posters have already decided who they are going to back. I'd be happy for Norwood to continue if he plays well and we keep winning. The new found balance is good news for either player, and more importantly, for us.

Sums it up well. I don't like Norwood and Berge in the same team. They have too similar mentalities in possession. Let whoever does the job of progressive, but not assist making passing the best play

I’d say everyone has a price, so yes. To be clear, I’m not saying that Berge has been anything more than moderate. I’m saying, for the first time since he arrived we actually have some creativity in the side. For the first time, we’ll play the formation that he excelled in. I’m excited to see if this is the spark that ignites the flame. If it doesn’t then he has no excuses.

Norwood better defensively? Really? He gives up a goal scoring opportunity seemingly every game and is weak as piss. Norwood has qualities but defensively he’s always been poor.

I’m definitely excited to see him play in a formation that would suit him, with players constantly showing for the ball, intelligent movement in front of him offering him options.

Fleck and Norwood improved dramatically yesterday and l think it’s fair to say Berge could too, I don’t understand the treatment of Berge from some of our fans. He’s been asked to play out of his natural position in a team that’s played shite with little or no quality at the side of him for 18 months yet the quality he possesses has still been pretty obvious. I still believe In the right setup he could be the best player in this league.

I think a prime Andrea Pirlo would have struggled in our midfield since things went pear shaped, not yesterday though as things aligned.

After yesterday, MGW and Ndiyae', inclusion in the squad is going to make other teams think twice about using the high press against us. In turn there will be greater space and time to allow the CM(s) to play. We saw Norwood & Fleck thrive yesterday because they had time and space and Berge will also thrive, given the same opportunity. The question is, which of them can provide the killer pass, into the final third, more consistently? That's who gets the shirt for me.

IMO. Most fans are still locked into an Eleven man team, where as in the modern game with so many substitutions allowed a manager if he has the right players can now change the basic structure of his team to match up or to exploit any weaknesses he sees in the oppositions.
