Going to the match today, just asking the question to you guys who see the u18's-u21's on a regular basis, anyone who has caught the eye and in your opinion can make the step up?
Thanks and enjoy the game

The young keeper looked good the other night against Charlton, but I expect he would be at least a couple of years away from the first team.

Adams and Reed were poor. Whiteman did ok. The rest? None will be even close to being first team regulars next season. A few decent lads though. Ramsdale, Semple and Gilmour the three youngest players were the ones that I think will eventually have a chance. Sadly Reed and Kennedy look like being bypassed by likes of them.

That's just how I saw it.
Thought reed and Adams should have won the game for us, but neither looked all that interested.

That's the problem with this pathway . Have we the young players coming through who are actually good enough for the bench never mind the first eleven.

Reed and Diego have over promised , under delivered . Kennedy just cannot last a decent run of games . However with Kennedy playing when supposedly out of the door , on his way , could he be one of the surprises who is to be offered a new contract.

If I was Reed or Diego , I would be worried.

Agree with you about the 3no players you mention ,but they are light years from the first team , and could flatter to deceive .

A bit of make do and mend next season , unless McCabe throws some money at the first team , or I can see the guys who got Adkins the sack (, after making himself look a complete twat and wanker protecting them all season ) will be back in favour , not because they are any good , but we have no choice in making the squad numbers up.

If this turns out to be the case , would we have been better off sticking with Adkins , after lessons learnt .

Wilder is now the main man , so he gets a tick in all the boxes from me . Let's hope the board support him , and not think he is a fully fledged paid up member of the magic circle.

Absolutely spot on as usual Deadbat. Makes you wonder what McCabe is thinking about when he constantly goes on about bringing the academy players through. It's just not that simple.

There is not one player who should be a regular or even play than more than handful of games (Whiteman may do that I suppose - not even sure Reed will do that) outside of Adams

If Wilder is told he has to play likes of Kelly, Whiteman, Reed, Calvert Lewin and Brooks quite a bit, to add to already young lads like Long and Adams who will play then we will be a relegation contender next season - the lads I mentioned are in theory the next in line but are not good enough at League One level. I am unsure any of those will ever be. He is being blinded by the decent results at this level.

McCabe is deluded if he thinks there are players there that will be mainstays in a promotion side. Sorry but that is the truth.

They were not even good enough to see of a much more inexperienced Huddersfield side. Against senior pros with physique and power at League One level they will be out of their depth sadly.

Adams still is a decent prospect. Whiteman still not sure about. The rest? Not good enough.

I think he just sees the success o the u21's and u18's and thinks they should be playing. Most of the u21's are not good enough / few years away (as are under 18's of course).

He is in cloud cuckoo land. Least Wilder saw it today. Don't want to criticise them too much as I say and done well to get to a final but we need 7 or 8 first teamers to compliment likes of Long, Sharp, Basham, Brayford, Done, Adams. The squad needs major upheaval. Once again if our new manager does not see that and retains likes of Flynn, McEveley, Kennedy, then we will be sat here again in 12 months debating the same old things over where it went wrong.

If we cannot take ruthless action after our worst season for 33 years then we might aswell pack it in.

This ignores the fact that the Huddersfield lads are trying to break into a Championship side. So obviously a few of our lads will have more "League" experience.

You would expect the reserves/juniors of a Championship club to be much better than a League One club but that wasn't the case.

None of our divisional rivals have junior teams competing at as high a level as ours are (only Charlton will next season)

So negative.... Semple, Gilmour have a chance as long as they are nurtured into a first team with good solid winning professionals. Just like Walker, Naughton and Maguire all had...
Give them a bloody chance !!

These are young lads trying to make their way in the game and it's negativity ......
Go and watch them week in week out and then form an opinion.
If I had watched Adams for the first time today I would say he was a bag of shite.....

No nurturing here mate

On the basis you would imagine premier clubs 21s maybe better the championship 21s.

Or that's what plenty of threads on here would have you think
Assuming championship youth teams should be better than ours purely because they're a division higher is silly really.

There's stuff Reed can do, that no one else at the club can do and there were a few flashes of it today. With the right manager behind him and in the right formation he could be quality for us. Was impressed with DDG as well at times today, he'd be the same as Reed, with the right manager and formation he could be quality for us too. Thought Whiteman and Kennedy were the stand out players for United today, both have the defensive qualities that the current first team sadly lack.

As for Che Adams. I've seen him have one or two decent games (usually from the bench) for the first team, above decent, but mostly he's been well off the pace and looks a long way off being a professional footballer. Hopefully Wilder will get better out of him on a more regular basis.

I didn't go, but the keeper is better than Long whatever his name is.

Well the top eight U21 teams in the country are all attached to Premiership Clubs. Below that, the next 14 are all Premiership or Championship clubs. Maybe that's just a massive coincidence?

There are the odd exceptions like Reading (9th best) where the U21 team performs at well above the level of the Senior team. Our club is one of those.

Eh? I know we're poor but are you really saying our U21's are better than the seniors?

Or do you mean relatively?

Dead at is right and spot on . None are good enough sadly to say . Relegation fodder . Young Travis get real , don't fill McCabes head with if , buts and maybes .

This preseason is going to be interesting were the intellect minority prove that they are correct . Hope they are proved wrong on both tactics and players , but have my doubts.

Pathway is a buzz word . The job gets harder for Wilder by the day. He is the right bloke to move us forward , but with McCabe , you can't kid a kidder.

I didn't think anybody would be thick enough to need it spelling out. My mistake.
You wrote it. No harm in clarification because what you said meant something totally different to what you're now claiming you meant. I was just clarifying you weren't thick enough yourself to mean what you wrote.

I just hope McCabe understands* that winning things at youth level is a poor measure. If they lost every game but produced one Kyle Walker then it's been a fabulous season.

*yes, yes I know.

Hope all associated with the club are watching the playoffs

Teams in the championship playoffs look light years away from us .

Teams in the league 1 play offs look like there in a league above us.

Teams in league 2 play offs look like they would give us a good game and we would have problems competing with them or on just a tad on there level.

U21 matches are what they usually are , U 21 matches . We ain't got a Kyle coming through , so we have to get real . Pathway is not for us , if we are to achieve our goal of promotion.

Went today and have to praise the lads. Was nice to see some real effort and a few stood out. Personally I think it's far too early to judge whether they are going to make the grade and that in a nutshell is the problem. They are knowhere near good enough at the moment. Adams will be prominent, Reed will play a part and I expect more from Whiteman at first team level but we are kidding ourselves if we think they are the answer next season. Quick mention for DDG. Unless he starts playing for the team and not himself he will go knowhere in the game. He has plenty of individual talent but there's reasons more than one manager hasn't fancied him so far
