Being given an opportunity to shine in the Championship is one thing, doing it consistently in the unforgiving Premier League is another thing entirely. We need to learn from previous promotion mistakes and not get carried away with sentimentality. If we get promoted then we need to change the attitude of "you got us up so you deserve to have a go." This landed us in deep water the first time we were promoted under Wilder when the reliable players became unreliable and we had inferior players to take their places as we signed squad players and not first team replacements. Relegation in the second season was inevitable due to our once strong defence falling apart, losing key players to long term injuries, not addressing the lack of goals from the previous season and poor recruitment over two seasons. Add to that we didn't have a talisman (ala Grealish) to sell fot big money that could then be used to buy a replacement and strengthen another positions. Sentimentality and reliance on those we already had led us to our demise, similar to last season, though losing Ndiaye, Berge and Doyle didn't help along with terrible recruitment done on the cheap.
Next season we need players who can and will do the job and if that shuts the doors for some of this season's players then so be it. In terms of consistency Seriki and Arblaster are the only two who tick the box for me, even then Seriki needs to play regularly to confirm that. The rest have done well but aren't consistent enough at Championship level yet to make the next step up. I'm not saying get rid, but some might benefit from season long loans in the Championship to get this from them. Our academy is good but this season we've wasted Marsh's development and progress and he's been the one to watch.
