All this talk of play-offs is actually making me feel slightly uncomfortable at the minute. The whole can we / can't we talk as though people secretly believe we can do it, so on and so forth.
Serious though, do we actually want it? If so, why?
Ok, we have managed to grind out a couple of wins in the last few games. The truth of the fact is however that we managed to beat a couple of otherwise poor teams who to be fair, on paper we should beat handsomely anyway. Factor in the fact that we were unimpressive and lost at a poor Millwall and that we nearly managed to throw away the Crewe game and we are being way more realistic.
I am trying to stay true to the fact that we have been shocking for the majority of this season. At the back we always look likely to concede a goal and the recent change in formation hasn't addressed this as of yet. And at the other end of the pitch we are very much hit and miss, we have poor days and we have half decent days.
In a nutshell......Upto now we haven't been good enough and don't warrant a play-off place! Fact?!..........
Do we really want to crawl into that 6th position on fortune alone, only to come up against a much more consistent and organised 3rd or 4th place team? We have both 3rd and 4th placed teams to play and I guess this might give us a more realistic benchmark as to how equipped we actually are but this season we have only managed a scrappy point at Walsall and a very heavy defeat against Gillingham. Doesn't exactly inspire does it.
Of course I want us to do well....Of course my ambition is promotion back to the Championship....But I would say that so far this season we simply haven't been good enough and are far less likely to have any success in the play-offs than ever before.
