Yes, but a good manager is nothing if he doesn't recruit effectively. And he hasn't really done that so far in my view.
He's had ONE transfer windows and inherited a large squad of players already under contract.

Are you old enough to remember Man U taking 25 years to buy a league title?

For any successful enterprise you have to build from the bottom up if you want sustainability and unfortunately that takes time.

Adkins needs at least 2 seasons before we should judge and whilst that doesn't sit well in today's selfish "it's my right and I want it now" society the truth is it' s never going to change.

My advice to the frustrated is to chill, enjoy your life, and worry about the things you can influence and not the things you can't.

Some people may pour scorn on what they perceive to be my lack of ambition but I'll bet my bottom dollar that they're not as happy with their lives as I am with mine :-)

Have a nice day and UTB

You'll simply be labelled as having "low expectations" and "happy with mediocrity" by bigger Blades who while wanting exactly the same as you, success, ignore the reality of where we are and that our team/squad is not that good.

We all know we shouldn't be in L1 and we all know how and why we got here. If it's so easy, plenty wouldn't have the time to post on forums as they'd be either running football clubs or managing them.

Agree with both posts. People who can't handle failure shouldn't bother with sport. Nothing wrong with discussing a game afterwards, trying to analyse it, make suggestions on how we could have improved but I just don't get this posting of the same points repeatedly, as if the more you say it the greater its validity.

It's an opinion. If Fergie or Mourinho posted on here then people would take notice and accept they're probably right, if Bushblade posts, then people can either agree or disagree, in the knowledge that I'm not a qualified coach, never been a football manager and my views are based on what I see during games, not all week on the training ground and with little knowledge of what's happening at boardroom level. Simply repeating my opinion ad nauseum to those that disagree seems to be a waste of everyone's time.

We've been work in progress since Mr Harris left.

Grumpy , unfortunately true and sad . What did we do with Mr Harris . Got rid of him , with a wealth of knowledge and experience , to become Chief Scout at S6 .

Sacrilege both then and even now IMO.

Not sure I've got 25 years left, that would be 30 years in the third.

Wow, never saw that coming, guess I'm just too optimistic for my own good.

We would like to and it appears we gave them a good game but for the first time this season we didn't score. Not really the end of the world is it?

Sorry to be pedantic but it's the 2nd time this season. You seem to have overlooked the opening day debacle.

For me, we need to be winning our home games and getting at least a point in most of our away games. Tuesday wasn’t a bad result. It was in line with what we ought to expect I think, an OK result. Bury, Colchester and Gillingham were the bad results. Swindon and Posh were good results. Chessy, Blackpool and Donny were the sort of routine wins we should be picking up whilst Bradford and Burton are the sort of draws on the road we should be picking up.

the whingers are really hitting the crystal meths tonight

so if we were in the prem and drawn 0-0 at man utd wed d be flirting with relegation
only we were playing our peers in league one
at a club , who some seem to think is still a conference side

what you have to learn is clubs status changes
burton are at our level, at this moment in time
admitted in 1972 if wed drawn at burton would have been poor

If they were hitting the crystal meths, they would probably be very positive!!
Maybe they should be hitting the meths :o)

Odd point. It's almost 1/4 of a season.

It's plays the same part as the last 10 games. Or the middle.

I.E The more you win the more likely you will Succeed.

Why is it an odd point just because we are not in the automatic spots after 10 games doesnt mean to say we will not be in the automatic spots after 46 games, have a look through the stats for this division see how many of the teams that were top 2 after 10 games went on to win automatic promotion I wouldnt think there were that many

...as they were against the pigs. They lost both games. That's what I mean by 'smelling blood'.

So were the Pigs who got a last minute breakaway winner when Brentford were going for it

A very different point to saying "automatic promotion isn't won in the first ten games".

That's 1 win in 5 games. 5 points from a possible 15, 33% win rate from our last 5 games.

If that form continues over the season we'll get roughly 36 more points. Leaving a total of 53.

Crewe finished one place above the relegation zone with 52 points last season, Notts County got relegated on 50.

Obviously we're not going to get relegated but our current form would suggest a very near miss.

Improvements needed more than ever.

I'm getting an ever increasing sense we're heading down the familiar path Clough took us down of odd draws (good points away from home) here and there in between a few wins and a string of defeats.

Loanees urgently required.

20% win rate, 33% points gained out of a total of 15

Here's a revolutionary idea for you.

Why not start some interesting, non repetitive posts of your own? Rather than worrying about picking up other posters on what they're contributing?

Or just talk about football. And not other posters.

It might make your experience more enjoyable.

:O

Superb idea. Thanks. I genuinely thought that wasn't allowed. What on earth have I been doing for 109 wasted, viciously ad hominem posts before you came along to enlighten me???!! :p

Why is it ? Please explain
Automatic Promotion cannot possibly be won in the first 10 games the most amount of points you can get is 30 We couldnt get automatic with 90 FFS

You suggested the first 10 games aren't really important.
I suggest they are.

You suggested the first 10 games aren't really important.
I suggest they are.

They are as important as any other ten game journey.
My expectations are that if we keep a clean sheet we should have enough firepower to steal it.
I'm disappointed...on balance.

Agree and apologies for the oversight.

Indeed. If you tell yourself everything is shit then it becomes self fulfilling. If some peopleare happy with this then we'll done them bit don't go infecting the rest of us with your negative bile.

For every ridiculous anecdote about man utd taking 25 yrs to build a title winning team there is an equally ridiculous counter argument about jose mourinho taking one pre season to build a title winning team

If adkins doesnt get us up this year hes failed ,as that was his objective

Im happy that youre happy

Failure to get promoted would be a failure but I hope that alone isn't deemed an axeworthy failure. If we keep playing on the front foot and are in the mix, even if we miss out, I hope we let this manager have the time to keep at it and get us over the line. I can't see us getting anyone with an equal or better CV who would convince me more that they are capable of getting us where we want to be.

I think that's the view of the majority, including myself. Regardless of whether we achieve promotion or not, as long as we're up there the manager needs time to build. The only time I'd begin to question Adkins' SUFC future is if the mistakes he's made already continue as a general trend and form suffers as a result to the extent that we're flirting with relegation. Otherwise, give him time to sort Clough's dross.

We all say this now but it becomes very difficult to look at the bigger picture when you watch an abject performance or are on a bad run of results. Let's try to remember this bigger picture if/when that happens. It's easy to suddenly think a manager is clueless and will never take us anywhere when they hit a bad patch.

Summer 2016 is a big one regardless of what league we are in (mainly due to the number of players out of contract). The last thing we want is a change of manager in the summer. We need someone who has assessed the players, decided who needs to stay and who needs to go and can build from there.

10 games in. 4pts off top. Best squad in the league by a country mile. We have the joint leading scorer in the league.

Wait until January after we've had the bumper Xmas fixtures. The kind where we have the luxury to rest Baxter and bring in Reed. Or decide which winger is most suited in Flynn, JCR, Done, Woolford or Adams.

Wait until all the poxy little grounds have soggy pitches so they end up with a fixture pile up.

My god some people on this forum. I would hate to live on the same street as them, nevermind share a house. I bet it's why so many women hate football if all the blokes come home crying because we've drawn against the league leaders.

Burton have lost 1 in 12 League games at home. Tuesday was a good result.

Matt, following United is exactly like having little children. The love you feel is existential, unconditional and often irrational. And when things go wrong, it's never the crying that gets to you, it's their incessant moaning (when they are small) and their unquestioning sense of entitlement (when they hit their teens)... ;)

So maybe the slasher / clapper dichotomy was never a goer and what we really have on these type of boards is battle-hardened survivors who smile and nurture (aka metaphorical parents) and life's perennial takers (aka the metaphorical babusings) who again either come as occasionally charming foot-stompers (who one tends to chastise but forgive) and world-weary perma-whingers (who you only can ever empathize with if they are your own)... :D
