Anyone else thinks there's something not quite right with him? He's not influencing games as he used to, has got a new contract (not suggesting loss of form is down to that) should be in the prime of his career, we know he can do it.... is he not fully fit or something?

We really could do with him stepping it up sometime soon and he seems to avoid scrutiny more than most players on here (not scapegoating here to be clear)

Form is not a constant unfortunately and all players have peaks and troughs in their performances. I’m sure given a bit of time he’ll pick up to the heady highs we know he’s capable of. It’s not like he was completely absent in the game just not his usual sparkling self

I said this a few times last season that when more than half of the team have a 6/10 or below performance, we look shit. A lot more than half the team did worse than 6/10 today.

Fleck was no worse or better than most of the others.

Fleck is often bypassed, particularly when McBurnie starts. We spend most of our time getting the ball out wide to get crosses into the box. This takes Fleck out of the attack. All he can do is hope that McBurnie wins it, holds it up and brings him into play. In most cases McBurnie sends it back wide, it gets fed infield to Norwood who then pings it high up the pitch wide to the full backs or overlapping centre backs, or he tries to link up with Billy.

For me Fleck played his best games last season when McGoldrick or Mousset were in the side, as they linked up with him and brought him into the attack through the middle.

Fuc#ing anonymous 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 If you’d have said “Quiet 1st half” you’d have been right, but like all bedwetters, it had to be a hyperbolic.

Thing is, i think McB could play that role if they would give it to feet. They dont have to be mutually exclusive.

He needs to be more accountable as a reason as to why we're going direct.

He's one of 3 midfielders in our team. He needs to be making himself available to receive the ball. Work harder. Pass and move. Get us up the park. Keep us there.

If we're going long it's because the movement isn't there in front of the man in possession. We can't keep giving free passes to our midfielders and blaming McBurnie's presence (& McGoldrick's absence) on why our football has turned so direct. The lads in midfield need to do more & stop hiding out on the wings waiting for Norwood to put them in.

Kind of hard work carrying the midfield by yourself when you have 2 players that are not good enough.

When Berge came on and we had Fleck and Berge we looked a different team get an even better replacement for Norwood .

For example Cantwell Buendia Benrahma someone with that extra bit of quality that we are missing that can make things happen.

It’s become increasingly obvious that we need a different kind of midfield player. Since our EPL return, I’ve noticed that teams squeeze us because we have a midfield that don’t look to take a man on. Plan A is pass/switch/hoof/check-back 99% of the time. This kills our ability to manipulate teams out of position, meaning we’re constantly attempting to attack a well-set defence.

Couple this with the majority of our attacks being slow-as-fuck, predictably down the flanks AND defenders being asked to provide the final ball, it’s little wonder we’re struggling a bit.

We desperately need someone willing to burst into space from a central position, break through the lines and have a team back peddling. Traore did it half a dozen times in the second half and it had us touching cloth.

I know I bang on about #bringbackthe10 but having a deep-lying, flat 3 has made us one-dimensional and (whisper it) a bit hoofy.

Considering Fleck could and should be our version of Grealish etc. He really doesn’t get the time on the ball that his talents deserve.

Bring back the 10.......Me too.
My favourite player over the Wilder era was without question his very first signing (not Chris Hussey) Mark Duffy. I really miss the way he used to run at defenders with the the ball into box. Always though Fleck was the the man who could take over that mantle.....

Great! Let’s make even easier for teams to cut through us. Teams at the bottom end dont stay up because of their attacking prowess, they stay up on defensive strength.

Wolves had no such problems.
But I do take your point, but how long do we curtail our attacking prowess in favour of our defensive strength. When that perceived strength is breached so easily? But my main point is Fleck simply doesn’t get himself on the ball as much as he should. The midfield roles are clearly defined. Norwood the holding“quarter back” Lunny the “box to box” man and Fleck the man who drives us forward. With all defending of course.....

Needs to force himself into the game more. When he doesn't drift in/out of games he's easily in our top 3 players. Loved watching him at times last season. Burnley (H) and Arsenal (A) especially.

Bang on the money for me.

We are crying out for that bit of something different. Fleck and Berge both have it in their locker to drive/ drift past players with the ball but we lack the trickiness/unpredictability of a player to really set defences onto the back foot.

Tactics for winning games at this level constantly evolve so this isn’t a knee jerk from yesterday merely an observation moving forward

Didnt he hit the post with our only real worthwhile effort on goal that looked like troubling the keeper

We don't do technical quality, never have, never will
We occasionally peak every 15 years or so with a team of workhorses who when things are going well can do simple things well.
Under Bassett and Warnock before, we'd look capable at our best without any style, swagger or technical ability but it always caught up with us in the end, and now it's looking like the same again due to our absolute refusal to sign real proper quality

It needs to change sick to death of seeing our fans bemoaning the fact that certain players don't track back and what not 🙄 it is not upto the attacking midfielders and strikers to track back they are there to score goals.

What we miss is a real flair player with pace and trickery that gets the fans out of their seats that can create something out of nothing.

CKR and David Cotterill Matt Phillips Paul Ifill were such players that have played for us that could turn a game in the blink of an eye.

Strong pacey players like Adama Traore are hard to come by but that is something we are crying out for to terrorise the opposition and create opportunities for our strikers.

That Sarr at Watford is a great example but just won't pay the money and that is where the problem is.

We had one of the best defensive records in each season playing a ten. We can remain defensively strong without being detrimentally defensive. A one dimensional midfield allows teams to step onto us and strangle the life out of us, without having to worry about someone floating about in dangerous spaces.

I noticed it post lockdown and again today but we have a distinct preference for attacking down the right. Seemed to start when JoC got injured and stuck. Fleck spends a lot of his time tucking inside to cover.

For all the slagging and scapegoating Norwood received yet again, Fleck and Lunny offered him absolutely nothing the majority of the game. They were piss poor. As were the wing backs. Sharp and McBurnie can only show so much with limited mobility.

Grealish forces the issue. He leads. Fleck's good, but if he wants to take his game to the next level then that's what he needs to do more of.
Yes my sentiments exactly. Fleck should be more pro-active when getting on the ball. I always thought he could do that No 10 role when Duffy fell out of favour. But our new found status and better quality opposition means Flecks attacking qualities have become secondary to his defensive responsibility’s.

I wondered wether we would change/tweak the formation.Someone posted something similar yesterday.
I'd go with 4-4-2 with a back four of the usual suspects but leave Bash out.Play Berge as a defensive/holding midfielder in a diamond formation covering the thrird postion at the back if needed and allowing the wingbacks still to get forward. Then play a number 10 the lad from Cheslea.? behind the front two.Fleck left and Lunny or replacement on the right.
I just worry about Berge as he doesn't track back enough at times and wether that would lead to the centre backs being exposed to pace.
We desperately need a Rcm and striker though.
Utb

We’re not in division 3 or 2 anymore in case you haven’t noticed? We’re now in the best league in the world with by far the worst budget. We can’t just willy nilly sacrifice organisation, graft and determination for flair till we get a billionaire owner. Then when we do everybody will be on CWAK back for being too cavalier! We finished 9th last season with this system, now we have fans wanting to rip up what got us here? We’d be relegation fodder if we did.
