Anel

My great grandparents left not far from Naples to inner city Sheffield.

Don't do it Anel. They obviously had their reasons!

Isn’t Naples a bit of a Mafia infested shithole?

Yes, it's awful CB 😀

TBH while there may be somewhat of an 'organised' element to how things are run there, it would have to be pretty awful for anyone to prefer dodging bullets (literally) from all the Somalian gangs just down the road from Shirecliffe.

May well be, but he's swedish by all accounts, Bosnian via bloodline only - might never have even been to Bosnia outside of football.

His father is a very proud Bosnian and Im sure that will have rubbed off on Anel

Will be sad to see him leave as he was fantastic in the Championship last season and thats where we will be next season
Anel has struggled this season but hes not the only one. Any team only having only 30% possession and at best is going to find it tough defending its been a baptism of fire for him

Hopefully we can use this money and buy two up and coming cb’s who will be with us for a very long time. There are plenty of good up and coming players from the efl at the minute who we can target (Woolfenden, Cashin, Edwards, Ballard, Greaves).
Your second target in the above list is a deffo no go.....we haven't got any 😉

Which begs the question why does every decent player want to leave? We're getting something very, very wrong
To further their career, like all players do?

Like it or not, and however disappointing, this is the clubs’ most successful spell in most fans’ lifetime.

Perhaps we’re not getting most things very, very wrong?

Only my opinion for what it's worth, but they might look at it like us,we've no money & no ambition so they might be better off elsewhere.
Our ambition recently led to a transfer embargo.

We can all spend other people’s money.

N'Diaye, Berge and now looking like Anel all sold within 6 months.

Well done United, nothing like a bit of ambition.
To an extent I agree but on the other hand as already commented re Berge and Ndiaye do we want to lose key assets for nothing which is a big risk. As for Anel, he'll want to go as soon as there was any interest. As long as we get a decent fee I'm ok with him going. All three players mentioned are international players and are therefore in the international arena far more so yo speak. Luton as a comparison with their predominately British players and older players often are less likely to go because they're less desirable but in a way that's benefitted then because they've kept their team together.

It's not sparkly clean everywhere but it's got alot going for it. And you'd only need to live just outside of Naples and it's the amalfi coast.
Sun, pizza/food, wines....

Tough choice for him though. Stay here and likely be playing championship football next season.
Go to Napoli and be playing Serie A and possibly European football, along with the bonus of where it is.

My worry is next season in the championship we will be without, Ndiaye, Berge, McAtee, Anel and Archer. They have all scored goals or added creativity.

No guarantees, Souza, Hamer or the ones that need to sign new contracts stay. Someone wrote a post on the FFP thread about if we’d have spent money we’d be stuck in the championship with youth prospects. That could still happen despite spending sod all.

Reality is we got lucky with Wilder and even then have failed to build on what was developed.
We've wasted a huge amount of money and made no infrastructure developments despite three out of five years in the Prem.
Definitely still getting a lot of things wrong given very few clubs would be skint and selling all their best players in our situation.

Wilder was a big part of wasting the premier league money last time. We then held onto players when finances were incredibly tight, as a result of that spending. But that decision got us promoted again.

Our recruitment seems generally poor, the worst exceed being under Wilder, but it’s not obvious what else we’re doing that is so wrong. We just don’t have a rich enough owner to run up the losses that some other similar placed clubs are prepared to do.

His wife and entire family are Bosnian, so I'm pretty sure he considers himself Bosnian (because he is) and has been to Bosnia outside of football.

Rudyard Kipling was born in Mumbai, that doesn't mean he was Indian or considered himself Indian. That isn't the way it works.

Me and my whole family are English, I'm im born in another country and barely set foot in England, does that make me English?

Didn't absolve Wilder of blame in what I posted but ultimately the manager isn't responsible for running the club.
If selling all our best players after we get to the Prem doesn't indicate something is very wrong with the overall management of the club not sure what will.
Little of this has got much to do with wealth of the owner it's much more about how we've spent money. No spending on infrastructure, including recruitment, is shocking.

Guaranteed relegation scrap in the premiership ? Owner who penny pinches and cannot sustain us when we get success? Signings of not good enough players ? Getting hammered 5s and 8s ?

So would you have spent less on players and more in infrastructure?

You can’t have both, without saying where the money is coming from.

The board should have never let our 2 most valuable players get down to their final year of their contracts, it's piss poor planning.

I've been disappointed with Anel this season, but he's been playing for the worst team in the division by a mile, so I'll cut him a bit of slack for that.
How do you get a player to sign a new contract that wants to leave ?

Our fanbase is odd sometimes

That guy is so out of touch with Sheffield United it’s frightening

Comments on everything but must watch the games through a frosted glass bathroom window because he’s miles off with everything he says.

Unless he listens to the matches on the radio …………. That would make sense.

Depressing isn’t it, but none the less, position wise, most fans haven’t witnessed such a high average position as we have over the last 4 years.

I too can dream up a scenario where someone else loses lots of their own money to make it better for me.

Previous owners would have reduced debts by selling players earlier, and we’d now be competing nicely in the championship.

It’s the shit state of English football in recent years. You need a rich owner to fund a competitive, mid range premier league club. Otherwise you’re cannon fodder. No amount of being “well run” alters that.

The lad is literally born and raised in Malmö, he played also many youth internationals before switching. His family live here - there was lots of media attention regarding him and his non wearing of the “correct” captains armband.
Yes of course he has affinities with Bosnia but a Bosnian he ain’t.

I’m betting that with this being a European transfer….the fee will be circa £5 million. The ridiculous fees paid in the Premier League are rarely paid in Europe.

My take on the current situation is that Wilder is trying to build a squad for Championship football & with 17 players out of contract in 5 months time….its a good job!
