Agree with this to a point, but also think that we aren't a world class side and Maldini probably meant the team as a whole hadn't defended well rather than just the defender themselves. When you look at the way we're set up, with centre backs that are often pushing on to the opposition byline, and creating overloads all over the pitch, that approach by it's very nature leaves us vulnerable to the opposition breaking.
Imo if we were to stop teams breaking in the way they do, we'd have to fundamentally change our style of football, it'd change our whole approach and it'd be less exciting to watch.
