He has been off colour recently but is still a hugely important player for us.

If we go up, he's one who will be able to step up comfortably,

Main thing to come from that game for me is how much we miss anel when he doesn’t play. Their goal is exactly the type of chance he snuffs out on a regular basis with pace and a last ditch tackle

You're right.

In recent games the club's social media team have made a huge point of the great tackles that our back three have put in - Anel, Bash, Robinson all featured and last night Egan and Bash put in a couple.

As much as i love to see a great tackle from our defenders, it's very much the John Terry disease. Terry was lauded as a good defender as he often put his body on the line at the last second to deny a certain goal. I believe that it was Maldini that was either quoted or referenced when stating that if you have to make a tackle then you've not done your job as a defender.

The main problem seems to be that teams get through our midfield and put our defenders on the back foot. At times, we're too much of a Keegan side, when we need to manage games better.

You are right of course about better prevent the need for a last ditch tackle. On the other hand, I just love tackles, both Anel's technically ones and Robbo's scything tackles. At the end of the day, Championship football is a spectator sport. we need the spectacle.

yeah don't get me wrong, nothing better than seeing Robbo hurtling across to twat some winger at full tilt

Good to have it in your locker though, when required

Agree with this to a point, but also think that we aren't a world class side and Maldini probably meant the team as a whole hadn't defended well rather than just the defender themselves. When you look at the way we're set up, with centre backs that are often pushing on to the opposition byline, and creating overloads all over the pitch, that approach by it's very nature leaves us vulnerable to the opposition breaking.

Imo if we were to stop teams breaking in the way they do, we'd have to fundamentally change our style of football, it'd change our whole approach and it'd be less exciting to watch.

So whats changed? We're certainly doing more last ditch defending that we used to. I understand the need to against Spurs, but against Reading and Blackburn we should be more organised in our midfield and with the Wingbacks

Hopefully this stupid suspension has at least recharged him to 100% ready to give it all for the last 10 games or so

If he can start every game, our chances are greatly improved, as the stats demonstrate

If he can actually be at his best, even more so - that could be the decisive factor that gets us over the line

In the last few games we've been without Anel and Egan at points, probably doesn't help.

I also think midfield is unsettled at the minute too, we can't seem to find a balance. If Doyle is in there it helps because he's positionally sound, composed and physical, but considering how many we commit to our attacking play, Berge, Osborn and Mcatee just don't seem to have the discipline to sweep up between Norwood and the attack.

We've got some quality midfielders but I think we just haven't got the balance right in the middle at the minute.

I'd agree with all that. I think Berge doesn't help. He seems to be great when we dominate teams, but i think when you have Lowe, Bogle, Berge and McAtee in the side, then we don't seem to be disciplined in or out of possession.

Norwood has undoubtedly been poor at times with the ball, but he's often put under pressure because of the above.

As much as Osborne is a grafter, he lacks discipline unless he's at wingback and the fact that he looks busy is deceptive

It could be as simple as sticking Baldock back in, I love Bogle but I forget the wing backs make up part of the midfield. It's like a pendulum the way we play sometimes with the ball moving from one side to the other really quickly, but if the back end doesn't move back in to cover once the ball has moved on to the other side, we're left short if we lose the ball. We can cover one overly attacking WB with the midfield 3, but not both.

I think it's a case of Bogle or Lowe, we can't have both wings being weak, so i'd play Baldock or Osborne

And in the middle it has to be McAtee or Berge, we can't play both, not against good teams. We need Coulibaly (though i'd like to see more of him to make a proper judgement) or Fleck or Doyle alongside Norwood

Think we've nailed it. I'll get on to Hecky with the plan 😂

Seriously though that's how I see it, strongest side has Norwood and Doyle in midfield with Lowe and Baldock or Osborne and Bogle. Then mcatee or Berge playing as AM, hate to say it but I think Mcatee gives is more balance as he can play the number 10 roll whereas Berge always ends up down the right

If only we were as good as Keegan’s sides !!

It will have done him a lot of good but I still think we're going to have to look after his minutes.
He doesn't seem to be capable of a 3 game week right now.

I'd give him the next two league games and bring Basham back in for the FA Cup.
We're then into a season defining 8 games in 4 weeks. Best to keep everyone fresh for that. Balls to the Cup.

If he is to sit out any league games I'd suggest Baldock at RCB. He'd be best at covering any gaps Bogle leaves

Baldock is the answer to everything. Should be starting every game now

I also think Baldock at RWB gets a bit more out of Berge.
I've wanted Bogle to be the answer, in theory Bogle, Anel, Berge sounds so good on paper. The reality is, it hasn't worked.
