I’m hoping with the delay announcing Moore that this is what we’re doing in the background.

I’d probably say the one player united half wanted to go was Anel this summer due to his contract so they should have been prepared
The one player I want to see go is Robbo who wouldn't even be here apart from a manufactured option he had over the club !
Who ever heard of an old slowcoach mistake-ridden player having an option over his club ?
The moment Wilder left , the club should have had the balls to show him the door , as a sign to us that they'd taken back control and were not going to tolerate such nonsense from a manager.
Blimey , he was only given a 12 month contract the previous summer - that's what we thought of him in summer 2024.
And then Wilder bizarrely made him captain.
So what the hell changed in summer 2025 ?
3rd choice CB behind Souttar & Anel , then Holding & Anel , and it's like he's untouchable ...

True, but have the 4 teams we play done all their transfer business done and settled in ?
I doubt it.

Not doubting you here, if clubs manage to operate deliberately in this fashion, calculating transfers and accounting for other teams movements in the market, that would be a masterstroke. I suspect that if it did happen - a teams opening flurry of games are against teams that are all waiting on late window movement - it'll be by chance rather than judgment. Be nice it we're in the positive column for once though.

I don't mean us or other other teams are calculating it and it's great.
It would be tons better if we had CBs in place already who had done a preseason with us. Especially since we needed them regardless of Anel.
Just we won't be the only ones in the situation and it doesn't equate to 12 points gone.

Makes zero sense to me. One of the biggest issues we had at the back end of last season was our lack of pace, movement and physicality. It meant not only could we not create space and chances in the final third, it also meant any team that attacked us with pace and movement found our defence ridiculously easy to run through. By the end of the season even the shit teams realised we could be got at.

Robinson was the poster child for this and if he starts the season, i fully expect every team we play against to target him and get their fastest most skilful players to do run between, around, behind him.

He's not just physically slow, but slow to react too. He's a real week link in our side, and no not addressing this will cause us serious issues.

Yeah, spot on. I'd not considered it that way, but you're absolutely right.

We’ve tried to upgrade him every year and somehow he’s ended up playing pretty much 80% of the games regardless.

Robo is not the villain myth and bedwetting has made him out to be recently.

Yes he’s made a few high profile gaffs and is prone to being wrong footed but he’s been a good sevent to this club. Let’s have a bit of respect and be a bit more objective. At this level he’s a decent player and obviously seen by subsequent managers as a leader on the pitch.

It’s his final year of his contract and probably his career and doesn’t need bladybladebladness negative jumping on the bandwagon. I’ve been critical when he’s made mistakes but hopefully I’ve been respectfully angry.

He’s wanted out for ages. Fancied himself as an elite player for years. Had a Jeremy Kyle episode in his personal life which fans followed with depeche mode-inspired support, while Wilder did his testosterone-fuelled push towards the away end to make Anel appear as one of the lads. Said episode made things appear rosy. Reality is he saw us as a stepping stone but got ripped to shreds in the PL.

He wants to go so cheerio of you fuck.

Now we have to really hope they have a scooby when it comes to recruitment. 10 million is an incredible amount of money for a champ team to have to invest if you know what you're doing (presuming the Anel money and more is invested). Cooper, Burrows, O'Hare and Campbell for 5 million in fees only last summer. It's far from impossible. The asset base seriously needs restocking with young, hungry undervalued players that can get us promoted or be sold in the future for big money.
Don’t we include the £13m from the Souza sale or the assumed high salary savings of Brewster, Anel, Souza and Moore?

We sent 6 loans back. Was it 3 of them on PL salaries?

To date 3 loans in and a few “development” players. Let’s hope for some decent signings next week or two? Preferably some permanent signings to replace the gone permanent signings

No issues him using us as a stepping stone. I want us to do this more. Brighton, Brentford do it well. Basically every club other than Real Madrid is a stepping stone. We’ve made money on him, he’s in his last year of contract. Absolutely fine him going and wish him the best of luck.

Neither have I. Just not a fan of how he was so open about.

Maybe.

But the lessons I’ve spoken of ring oh so true when we lost Soutter in November, didn’t replace till Jan and then didn’t really use him.

Spending the transfer fee money on Canon in Jan rather than an established PL ready CB will ALWAYS go down as a massive mistake in my book.

Losing another established PL ready CB in AA (he is, don’t anyone argue !), will leave an enormous gap for us to
Realise I’m ‘late to the party’ & ‘clarification’. afforded surrounding date of Souttar injury, but, when were we going to replace him given the transfer window didn’t open “till Jan”?

Who knows where that is going. I imagine some will go to pay bills but you can't sell assets and always replace with loans or you're screwed. United ended up in L1 doing that.

I think the players remaining on really high Champ/low Prem salaries are Hamer and T Davies. This is assuming Moore has gone. That's remarkable for a team that has recently spent three years in the PL (T Davies is OOC next summer btw). Anel will also probably be on a decent screw as he was rumoured to have joined for 4 million. The loans would've been on good money but this is counterbalanced by the fact we had a tiny squad until January and only paid them from Jan onwards. None of last year's permanents scream " on big money" with the possible exceptions of O'Hare and Cannon. Even then I doubt it's unsustainable money. Cannon was linked with non parachute clubs and United

It's certainly not Robinson's fault that the club has consistently failed to recruit someone to replace him in the starting XI. However, that does not absolve him of criticism for being dreadfully out of his depth, at upper Championship level.

He's fine in possession, if given 20 yards of space in any direction, and 30 seconds to make his mind up on what he's doing. The goal at Millwall last season demonstrates what he can do if not under pressure. The issue comes with the fact that pressuring the defensive line is commonplace nowadays, and Robinson is not capable of acting under that kind of pressure. As evidenced with the howler he had away at Sunderland; he ultimately chose to try and smash the ball away on his weaker foot, failed to set himself properly to do that, got the technique completely wrong, and gifted them a free run in on goal.

That doesn't even account for all the occasions where he dallies in possession, gets put under pressure, panics, and scrambles to move the ball off to someone else (usually the goalkeeper) just to get a breather. He was better off when we played a back 3; he was not exposed by opposition pressure as acutely as he is in a back 4, and he had more cover to protect the goal in case he did make a mistake.

As long as he is part of a team which looks to play out from the back, as many teams now do, including us, he is the weakest link in the team.

He obviously has had some good moments for us, but he doesn't get a free pass simply because he's been here a while.

Teams will just turn us with channel balls in behind like Millwall did ,it tittle negates your tactics if every time.you lose the ball anywhere on the pitch you are instantly defending a one on one

I honestly think it’s why season after season we are too slow with transfers you see clubs linked with players and within a day or two they’ve signed ours drag on for weeks, wear always monitoring or considering or keeping an eye on situation it’s embarrassing a club of our size
The interest doesn't begin when some journalist reports on a player linked with a club as the deal will have been in the works for days and weeks prior to that.

It's just depends how quick journalists are to pick up on the story, and sometimes they don't get wind of it until it's pretty much done.

Take Bindon, no one saw that coming as no journalist even had any indication that we were signing him until he signed.

Inadequate cover would have been a better descriptive on my part.

As would getting mi dates right 😂.

Anel and Soutter were the best CB pairing in the division at the time Imo.

UTB

Bobby Thomas > Robinson
Jack Rudoni or Ben Sheaf > Peck
Haji Wright > Brooks
Kaine Kesler-Hayden or Milan Van Ewijk > Seriki

Exactly my point, they aren’t exactly loaded with players that are better than what we’ve currently got.

I don’t see why we would fear Wrexham or Coventry this season.

No problem with selling him, I think he’s been on a declining trajectory for a couple of years. Looks weaker and slower than he did when he first signed, his ceiling is the Championship.

The timing is terrible though and if they intended on selling him, why haven’t they recruited another CB before now?! We have about 10 CM but now only 2 CBs and 1 of them is a bomb scare, wtf are they doing.

I’m inclined to agree with Captain Obvious. The timing of this is awful. We need another centre back in now. It’ll then take time to create a partnership. Personally I thought Anel was one of the best CB in the division, great in the air, composed in the ball and chipped in with some crucial goals in the past. It’s a shame, but we’ve probably doubled our money. 20+ million raised so far this window and some big wages off the bill.
