Chaps, sorry to do this but after our mental 2-2 draw, our very own Paralympic silver medalist got knocked out cold as he left BL, the police are on the case but I'm sure you will agree that smacking someone is a bit shit anyway but knocking out a disabled gentleman goes that bit further down the WTF line.
I'm sure that if anyone knows who the attacker is realises what the right thing to do on this one, I'll leave it to you and good luck in Pompey, they are a right 80s throwback, safe journey to all that go.

Absolute disgrace without a doubt and I hope they catch the scumbag who did it.

I'm very confused by this though:
Andrew Lapthorne, a wheelchair tennis player, is believed to have been punched in the face as he walked down the steps of the Jessica Ennis stand at Sheffield’s Bramall Lane stadium in the wake of the 2-2 draw.

Not so much the 'walked down the steps' (I assume he's able, but still plays in a wheelchair), but was it inside or outside the ground?

Andy walks without a wheelchair at times uses one at others, he was outside of the ground when attacked and was taken back in for medical help. I don't want to insult Andy in any form whatsoever but there is no way you couldn't tell that Andy is disabled by his walk. I don't know the guy but I certainly see him at most games and applaud his efforts to do so, I hope this hasn't put him off.
I'd imagine someone lost their rag and presumably did what he did but in the cold light od day, surely he needs to do the right thing.

My guess is lazy journalism, it surely had to be outside, where there are no steps, but it has a ring to it.

As you say, disgraceful behaviour, whoever the target. It's a game of football.

For the life of me, and this in a week where I've seen a grown man punch a horse btw, I cannot comprehend the thought processes of any human being that assaults someone who is clearly disabled in some way. I can only assume the lad was stationary against a wall waiting for his mates when some chancer decided to take a swing.

Sadly for detection purposes, the majority of home fans that will have been in that vicinity will be ones enjoying the freebies directly above where the Bees were sat and may well never be seen again.

That said, if he's told the ST who gave him his ticket about his bit of action, I hope said STH turns him in.

You can't comprehend how stupid and low some people are. Unfortunately every club has them. I hope the idiot gets caught and justice served. Unfortunately it will probably be 2 hours c0mmunity service and a £50 fine payable over 200 weeks.

Perhaps they should give him a season ticket and enforce his attendance to the Lane next season.

Not that it's any consolation, but I once got randomly shoed by a Forest fan by the turnstiles down there. When I turned round to look at who was doing it I saw a chap so off his face he was beyond reason. These people are out there and they're often chemically assisted. :(

You'd expect there must be witnesses. The plod usually film the crowds along Bramall Lane too. Sadly the odds of anyone from these boards knowing anything is pretty remote.

PS - I wonder if SUFC are in a position to help make things right (or just slightly less wrong). They might not be directly to blame, but if they can offer this bloke a supportive message and something by way of recompense it would be nice. A VIP ticket to a game perhaps?

... he was outside of the ground when attacked and was taken back in for medical help...

Surely a good chance of CCTV and/or police video recording the incident at this location?

I'm guessing the paper saying he was attacked by "fans" is an error and this was one idiot?

And do we know whether the Police are looking for a Sheffield idiot or a West London idiot?

Unfortunately the police never seem that interested after the game (http://www.s24su.com/forum/index.php?threads/sypd-on-poor-form-again.28601/), if someone had farted too loudly outside the Sportsman before the game they'd be locked up by now but a sickening assault outside the away end immediately after the game - they're not interested.

I leave via the Bramall Lane end of the South Stand and there were plenty of Brentford fans who were understandably buoyant and (in no way am I saying this reason for them getting a slap) very vocal - "Sheffield's a shithole" etc. This area, at this time, should be the most heavily policed area - it never is though.

Sad that this has happened but utterly predictable.

Glad the lad's alright.

I presume you mean a United game. Has he not suffered enough????

I walked up Bramall Lane immediately after the match (from John Street, back to the car) and there were plenty of Police (a couple with cameras) randomly milling around. In fact, they kept getting in my way. The mood was fine, most travelling supporters appeared to still be inside and there was nobody either side spoiling for trouble as I wandered up.

I'm surprised they weren't immediately on the scene and/or had a full handicam recording of it.

I left from the "freebie seats" (thanks again Foxy & Linz) and by the time I was out they hadn`t even opened the doors to the Brentford fans, but then I was out quick, had to go and find a curry...

I agree, completely disgraceful. Unfortunately, the description of the idiot, could be any one of ten thousand at the game!

Sorry business this incident. Events from this week make me wonder about our species.

Well, whatever it is you're wondering Aitchy, I can reveal the female is more deadlier than the male.

Just for you mate

And by the way, it's either "deadlier" or "more deadly" - tautology, harumph!

:D

We had a great conversation in the Rutty about tautology on Tuesday neet!

;)

Hope he is ok, and they catch whoever did this too him.

On the point of the policing at the Bramall Lane i think it has been nothing short of shambolic imo this season. I know that in this division if away support reaches 1000 its a good day, but surely all it means is that less police are needed after the game and not any police at all.

Im not condoning any behavior of this sort at all, but given whats at stake in terms of promotion, given the fact that at times the atmosphere at both home and away games this year has at times been horrible between united fans themselves, and also add into the fact that for the majority if not all of the teams in this league coming to Bramall Lane and getting a draw or win is huge for them,i cannot for the life of me understand why the area has a very sparse police presence. Add into this a late goal, or a bad decision etc it only escalates, surely the police can recognise this during the game and allocate resources accordingly.

When its highly charged, having home and away fans mixing regardless of the size and numbers is a recipe for disaster imo, and unfortunately what happens is that because their isn't a mass brawl is doesn't get recognized and dealt with at the time, so innocent people end up getting dragged into it, as well as women and children which isnt nice for all concerned.

I know this new fangled "popular" music leaves you a tad confused, but some of the young people will have got the reference.... :-)

As are too many away 'fans' which is why I don't travel any more. At the Tyne/Wear derby last weekend, local pubs were offering 'Two pints and a full English breakfast' for a fiver. At 8 in the morning. This needs police attention - it's the equivalent of someone selling baseball bats outside the ground. Pommpey has posted earlier about which pubs to avoid around Fratton Park. Jesus! Is it all worth it?

This season? Look, in our last season in the Championship, high-risk games such as Forest, Coventry, Bristol City and Leeds saw South Yorkshire's Finest let the away fans straight out after the game. The many families, women and children were caught up in the (inevitable) aggro. If there's trouble, SYPD can justify another load of overtime for their wasters. Instead of manufacturing trouble, wouldn't it be wiser to breathalyse away fans attempting to gain entry to the ground? And don't let them off with a 'street caution', apprehend them until they have no way of getting home.

I heard somewhere that there is a local by law stopping the police holding fans back. Something that was ignored up to the events at hillsboro'.

The policing after hillsboro' definatly became less confrontational at The Lane
