Y. They were upset about a dubious VAR decision at Burnley. Blades one tipped them over the edge.

Its embarrassing that they get it right on both occasions but the twats who make the decisions get away with it. Its about time these decisions were allowed to be overturned after the match has ended if its clear the decision is wrong. UTB

Err, no. That's even worse! Imagine going mental at winning a game with a last minute goal and then an hour later, when you're sat in the pub basking post-match glory and supping a cold beer, you find out the goal has been ruled out.

What we have now is already worse than what we had before! In theory VAR sounded like a good idea, but it's fucking terrible for those attending matches. It's even awful for those watching on TV. In fact, I'll go further than that, it's even fucking annoying in computer football games!

Football is a fluid game, one where momentum makes a huge difference, it just doesn't work with stops and starts. VAR is also ruining goal celebrations for the crowd. It's a spontaneous reaction to celebrate a goal, but then you suddenly remember the VAR fun sponge and start to think "what if....", which fucks up the joy even when VAR isn't triggered!

We either need to accept that referees and linesmen occasionally make mistakes, or implement some kind of US style system, where each manager can challenge a decision but only has a couple of challenges (if they get one wrong, they lose a challenge), and all replays need to be shown to the crowd as they're being decided. TBH, I'd be in favour of just reverting back to how things were, we just accept refs make mistakes!

The current implementation of VAR is total shit. I'm not just saying this because we had a goal ruled out; even against Burnley, when we got the VAR decisions, it was total shit. It tells you something when the back of the Kop was singing "VAR is fucking shit" when every decision went for us!

I was generally in favour of VAR when they proposed it, but it really is fucking shit. I hate it with a passion. It's the worst change in football rules I can remember in my lifetime.

They make the relevant point about the second phase that CW alluded to in his post match interview. If Lundstram had crossed the ball and Mcg had scored direct from it then arguments aside about where the line should be measured from we would have probably accepted it to be a bad decision in line with the likes of the Firmino one.

This one is different to Firmino and the other close calls. Dier heads the ball away surely at this point the second phase has started how can it not? Riley needs to explain what pearls of wisdom he has come up with as to when a second phase commences. Unfortunately he will be silent on it.

VAR is not ruining the game it is Mike Rileys version and interpretation of how it should be applied that is the problem. VAR was designed to assist the match referee enabling him to make the final decision if necessary consulting a pitch side monitor.

Rileys version places the decision making with the VAR official who is under pressure to get it right so we are down to the competence of the VAR official in first determining whether a clear and obvious error has occurred and secondly ruling on that. John Moss one of the worst officials in the Prem was on duty to day I'm afraid that has contributed to the final decision. Go with FIFA's version of VAR and there would be less controversy IMO. Riley needs to step down for the farcical situation he has created but like certain big wigs at the Premiership he feels he is untouchable.

“Destroying the game” what a load bollocks! Nothing can destroy the game ffs! Talk about going over the top to make a point!

If this has an adverse affect on our Champions League qualification then it will,....... well be worse than Tevez or Segers.

What would happen if all the prem managers got together and publicly stated they didn't want it and it's gash? Would the authorities listen?
I'd say so, I'd be surprised if it didn't come to some sort of vote. I wouldn't be so sure that they would oppose it though.

No, it is bad enough the odd time that happens in F1 when the result of qualifying or the race is decided 3 hours afterwards.

We don't want matches decided just before the MOTD comes or the following Monday.

Fuck VAR if they can't get anyone competent enough to use it properly.

I see 30 seconds being mentioned a lot and it’s a good idea, but I’ve got an even better solution.
If the opposing team can get the ball back to the centre circle and kicked off ready before the VAR has fucked it up then the game continues and the goal stands.

That way the game wastes less time getting a restart because if there’s any concern about it players will want to get the ball back sharpish ready to go.
Also ensures momentum isn’t lost and keeps the game flowing.
Any clear errors should be picked up in that time.

Leaving aside todays monumental feck up
It's working in other countries. Why . Their leagues make sure the ref on the pitch collaborates with VAR and in tight decisions watches it on a screen . It never takes 4 minutes. Only the prem stop the refs viewing the screen as they think it takes too long . But it never takes nearly 4 minutes. Here in Spain there's hardly any controversy the refs take the final say. The EPL need to change how they advise the refs here just now its wrong. Pre season in trials they said 11 seconds was the figure they were looking for for a decision. It's a bit off that
