This is it for me. Football is all about the euphoria of the goal going in - even when you’re sat on your hands among the home fans. That decision was so bad that even the Spurs fans round me were saying, “just give the goal and let’s get on with the game” - and when we did equalise and I let out a celebratory little “fucking VAR that one then” no-one kicked off.

The worst yet decision by VAR costs us 2 points. Yep , saw that coming, it was always going to be us against one of the glamour clubs. Absolutely sensible idea to limit delay time and go with ref decision. Weird aspect is that VAR delays in play might actually help our players maintain their superior intensity that is working for us. We did look a bit tired in last 10 min of the game yesterday when spurs finally exerted some pressure. But yes limit the time and make it clear and obvious for all decisions including offside to stop chalking off perfectly good goals.

The equaliser came up on the screen and it took minutes later to rule the goal out!

It was brought in for a reason and that reason still exists. It needs to not protect itself but be open to continual improvement. Offside is a matter of fact, there is no subjective view needed, so it’s perfect for VAR. The issue is how it’s being used and the laws it’s enforcing that we don’t like. Should a toe be offside? Does a defender get a touch? Like goal line technology, which is no longer queried, this shouldn’t need human intervention it just encourages errors. That’s the way the technology needs to progress and it’s the laws that may need editing to suit the fans view.

I see 30 seconds being mentioned a lot and it’s a good idea, but I’ve got an even better solution.
If the opposing team can get the ball back to the centre circle and kicked off ready before the VAR has fucked it up then the game continues and the goal stands.

That way the game wastes less time getting a restart because if there’s any concern about it players will want to get the ball back sharpish ready to go.
Also ensures momentum isn’t lost and keeps the game flowing.
Any clear errors should be picked up in that time.

What we have now is a situation where the fans have to wait five minutes at a time for four people to make the wrong decision, instead of just one chap doing so in a split second. Just bin off the lines and the protractors, if you can't see it without turning the pitch into some kind of bar chart then it's a maths lesson not a football match.
Also let the fourth official or the ref look at the bloody screen while teams are celebrating (isn't that why its there?). Graham Scott was the ref not some chuff sitting in a jumped up caravan.

VAR implementation in the EPL is poorer than I've seen it used anywhere else (and I've seen some really poor implementation in Czech).
On-field referee has to have the final say.
Get rid of the graphics and bar chart lines.
Time limit - sure.

I've seen it mentioned that we aren't following the FIFA / UEFA implementation guidelines for VAR, anyone know why?

Would a better system be to use the GPS trackers they all seem to wear now. Each player turns into a box on a computer screen easy to tell if in front or not and doesn't rely on frame rates or resolutions? Decision made under 10 seconds.

Here in Spain there's hardly any controversy the refs take the final say.

As someone who also has to suffer VAR in Spain, I'm afraid I don't agree.

My own team this season scored and the goal went to review. It took as long as ours did yesterday to decide and the only camera they had was on the 18 yard line, the cross and final touch for the goal being on the six yard line. It was impossible for the video ref to make a decision, the only person in the ground who had a proper view of it was the fecking linesman. Nevertheless the video ref annulled the goal which the linesman had allowed.

Also, with regards to the pitchside monitor I'd like to know how many times after the ref run over to that, he hasn't reversed his initial decision. I reckon it will be as close to 0 per cent as it's possible to get because if they go over to the monitor you know a reversal is coming. It just wastes even more time.
