Doesn't matter that he's gone he did a half decent job but nothing more

For what it's worth, "Fit and Proper" says that after Daykin went to Hull income from commercial activities collapsed and did not recover until he returned, so he must be doing something right. Having said that, as you say this is not a problem if the club make a good appointment.

Andy's a good man. He put in a good number of years with Utd and brought in a lot of additional revenue so he has played his part. If we no longer want to use his services he may as well work for the unclean - might need to beware of Christmas Eve P45s though.

40k a year at the swine apparently.

If that's the salary he's an absolute bargain.

When we got to the League Cup semi-final the only way I could get a ticket was to go on the corporate coach. Talking to him and listening to him sorting out the little sponsorship and advertising glitches at 11pm at night he should be able to command a damned sight more than that. A couple of years ago I had an hour with his counterpart at Palace who talked him up as an emerald in a mountain of shit in Football League circles. On that basis I was surprised we let him go.

See no reason why he shouldn't go and earn his keep over at the sty if there's nothing to be had at the Lane - it's his livelihood after all. That said, anyone who's had 20 years experience of advertising, sponsorship and corporate hospitality in football, especially with Premier League experience, should be able to make a handy wedge as a privateer in any part of the leisure industry. His contacts alone would be worth a fortune.

I used to know a bloke who having semi-retired from his work in advertising and media used his savings to buy the rights to the advertising hoardings at Old Trafford. He worked one day a week renewing bookings and made an absolute fortune. He also made a handy wedge consulting at other sports clubs - and would often take corporate tickets and re-sell them when they couldn't stump up the cash. There is bags of money to be made from cash-strapped football, rugby and cricket clubs - the crime is that they can't do it themselves.

Wednesday rate his contacts at £40K per year. United, having first hand experience of what he has to offer, rate his value at less than that.

On the face of it, it looks like a loss. But given how little he's commanded elsewhere (about 2 weeks of Ched's wages) perhaps the club know what they're doing?
